I recently discovered a hidden gem myself on the Switch. It's a game called "Astebreed," and rarely anyone ever talks about it. It's a shmup/action game where you control a mech similar to a Gundam, and the stages constantly change from vertical to horizontal. Plus, it has an interesting story. It usually goes for $20 on the eshop, but I got it for $5 when it was on sale(plus, I had some coins so that dropped it down to $1.35). I give this a solid recommendation to anyone who likes Shmups or Mech games in general.

The Talos Principle is a masterpiece of a first person puzzle game that goes on sale for $4.49 every month or so. I describe it as a mishmash of the Portal games, The Witness, The Matrix, and somehow Super Mario 64, with ancient historical settings and a deeply philosophical story told largely through found texts.
@thefongz29312 ай бұрын
The Talos Principle absolutely blew me away on the Switch. It looks gorgeous on the console and the puzzles are legitimately mind-expanding; I've never seen any other game do what it does with puzzles. But the glue which holds it all together is the narrative, the setting, and the philosophy. If you choose to engage with it fully then you will find yourself pondering for minutes and minutes which answer to choose in a dialogue tree, challenging your own knee-jerk arguments and deeply held beliefs. I was quite shocked at one point to realise that I had argued myself into a contradiction, wishing that I could turn back time and not have given the reply that I did in the beginning. But I had meant it at the time! And all of this from the people who brought the world Serious Sam! The recent sequel on PC is also a joy, although it loses a bit being much more explicit about everything.

I recommend the Switch version of the original Phantasy Star, which is great because it includes a badly needed automapping feature for the dungeons. I also really enjoyed House of the Dead: Remake, it was great with Joy-Cons. Neon Abyss is also really fun, it's a roguelike side scroller bullet hell dungeon crawler that is surprisingly fun and addictive.

I have that collection and re-played Final Fantasy Adventure and did a blind playthrough of Secret of Mana, but I'm taking a break from Mana games for a little bit. How does Trials compare to the other two games? I have a feeling I'm in a controversial camp that actually likes FFA better than SoM, but maybe that's because I didn't have a second player with me and I liked the darker tone of FFA's story (or maybe because I kept unfairly comparing SoM's themes and spritework to Chrono Trigger's and lamenting on the rather simplistic dungeon designs and janky battle responsiveness...)

I love these kinds of videos. I do have a few suggestions for some hidden gems on Switch: Mad Rat Dead- A cheerfully morbid rhythm platformer where you move to the beat of your heart. #Blud- A Zelda/Earthbound style adventure titled mixed with Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Billy & Mandy hijinks with an art style reminiscent of late 2000's Cartoon Network. Cobalt Core: A card based deckbuilding rouge like that has you managing a ship in a single axis battle system. Citizen Sleeper- A tapletop rpg visual novel hybrid that has you trying to survive and resource manage on a space station. Them's Fightin' Herds- An animal based 2D fighting game with plenty of charm and simple, but deceptively complex fighting mechanics you can master at your own pace. Umurangi Generation- A first person based photography game in a futuristic dystopia with loads of style and character. Tunic- A Zelda like, but with some lite souls mechanics and smartly put together hidden secrets that recreate the feel of NES Zelda without the condescending cryptic nature. Rain World- A survival side scroller where you play a slugcat trying to live. Very deep in mechanics, ai, and controls. Haven- A romantic couples sci-fi rpg where you try to survive in a derelict planet together that's simple to pick up and play. Neon White- A speedrunning shooter that tasks you to play for the best score possible while teaching you about speedrunning through gameplay without telling. Hyper Light Drifter- A post apocalyptic naturepunk playing similar to A Link to the Past, but much more free form in player choice on where you start and how you upgrade. Wargroove 1 & 2- A medieval-esque grid based tactical rpg in line with similar gameplay to Advanced Wars. Owlboy- A sidescrolling adventure game that sees you playing as a mute owl trying to save his dying floating landscape from falling to abyss. Gorgeous sprite work and a gut punching story in a few places. Downwell- An arcade style rogue lite platformer where you try to survive going down a well to progress as you fight monsters. Overwhelm- A crude, minimalist 2D sidescroller in line with Virtual Boy visuals that has you fighting in a sort of boss rush type game, with the catch being that you are incredibly vulnerable. Carrion- Metroidvania mixed with The Thing. ...That's my sales pitch for it, and it's every bit as creative as you can get with this premise. Killer Queen Black- A simple, but deep Joust type scoring game where you play as a team to compete against other workers to score the most points. It's not on eshop anymore (online servers died), but the physical should still be floating around if you're into local multiplayer games. Gato Roboto- A bite sized Metroidvania- but you play as a cat. Minit- A Zelda-like but the catch is you play in a minute and have to restart from your last save point each time. Night in the Woods- A story focused platformer where you live the life of a 20-something college dropout with very fleshed out characters that captures the feeling of loneliness and anxiety of a directionless 20 year old. Demon Turf- A cute pseudo 2D-3D platforming hybrid that has you fighting in turf warfare with other demons. Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition- A remastered port of the PC point & click game from 1997 that has you playing as a separate Blade Runner disconnected from the events of the movie. Dex- A 2D cyberpunk sidescrolling rpg hybrid with deep gameplay mechanics. Thief Simulator- A first person open world stealth game that let's you master breaking and entering homes to steal as much as you can under certain conditions. Starlink: Battle for Atlas- A simple space sim with a lot of Ubisoft open world staples- but in space and additional Star Fox content exclusive to the Switch version. Chex Quest HD- Kid friendly Doom with a cereal mascot. Cult of the Lamb- A rogue like dungeon crawling cult building sim that keeps growing with each new update that's come out and now has 2 player local co-op. Sol Cresta- Hideki Kamiya's last game at Platinum Games that's a shoot 'em up. Astral Chain- A very overlooked Switch exclusive from Platinum Games that's about futuristic cyberpunk police fighting inter dimensional beings using other captured one's to fight back.

To toss a couple games into the ring for a future sequel: Gunbrella Astalon: Tears of the Earth Wolfstride Vernal Edge World of Horror The only Switch/console exclusive stuff that I can't get on Steam are things like Unicorn Overlord and 13 Sentinels by the developer Vanillaware, who for whatever reason, refuses to have their games ported to PC. Also, in the same vein as the remakes you have at the end of the video, in that they're made by bigger publishers but overlooked: I tried those Famicom Detective Club remakes . . . they're really quite good for quick simple graphic adventure games/visual novel style games. Fully voiced and everything (though Japanese exclusive audio). I definitely feel like that genre's an acquired taste, and I know I'm only ever in the mood for that style of game occasionally, since usually I want my games to be more active as I'd rather just watch a show or a movie if it's more passive and story focused, but these ones worked for me anyway, and I think a lot of people sleep on them.

Romancing SaGa 3 mentioned, i am happy! I'm really curious about the RS2 remake coming out in October. The original and remaster were both brutal difficulty wise, but there's something in that one I really liked, despite the fact I have yet to finish any version 😅 i wouldn't call the SaGa series a hidden gem per se, it's more of an acquired taste, but it's one i developed a taste for in recent years and while I haven't dug too deep in the two black sheep of the series (Frontier 2 and Unlimited, also the only two who have yet to receive a re-release, remaster or remake) I haven't been really disappointed in any of them as they all bring something interesting to balance their negative aspects. And i know, even among fans of the series you'll find people who will disagree with me. I don't have the nostalgia of the series because it took over twenty years for it to click with me, so I have an open mind for the flash-game-ish ones like Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond

My only experiences with SaGa are Minstrel Song and the intro for RS2, I'm looking at how many more of these games i could play on Switch and get choice paralysis.
@NachtKaiser6662 ай бұрын
@@LakituAl Romancing SaGa 3 and SaGa Frontier remaster are both good options. While still challenging, they are both easier because sidequests aren't affected by the number of battles you fought. They also both have a money exploit that give you an opportunity to buy better equipment and increase your chances of survival. I know some will consider this cheating, but the fact they didn't remove those exploits from the remaster makes me say it's fair game.

Excellent video! This is a VERY useful list with community comment suggestions that just keep on giving! I'm bookmarking this one. I can only think of two contributions to add here: 1. Try making a second Nintendo Switch account that uses Japan region and switching to that account to be able to check out Japanese indie games. At the very least you can also get the Famicom and Super Famicom emulators to play Japan-based classic Nintendo games. 2. If your Joy-cons are starting to suffer from stick drift, Nintendo will still repair them for free via their support site! I sent mine in and used an 8BitDo controller as a substitute while I waited, and the turn-around time was just a little over two weeks. Oddly enough their repair note stated that they couldn't (or more likely, wouldn't) reproduce the problem although they replaced the sticks anyway, but, hey, my Joy-cons no longer suffer from stick drift!

The Space Ghost reference was top notch and the introduction of Dick Sportswood to the drunkiverse makes this video an easy recommendation.

"Overlooked jaspers" I like it haha. Another great newer deck building roguelike I can't say enough about is Balatro. It's basically deck building poker, but the way you can use passive joker cards, consumable tarot cards, suit conversions, and more to completely change the way the game is played is absolutely genius. Definitely give this one a try if you're even remotely a fan of the genre, poker, or both!

To me, the most underrated game on the switch has got to be "Jet Lancer". I was truly surprised how much I enjoyed the gameplay, It's a 2D shooter, but I wouldn't catagorize it as a shmup. The game starts you off nice and slow and before you know it you're whipping around the screen shooting down waves of jets and crazy bosses. It might sound like I'm describing. any of the bunch of shooters on the switch, but there isn't another game like it.. Can't believe no-one talks about that one. oh and probably the second most underrated game, in my opinion, is the racing game "Slipstream." This is unabashedly inspired by "Outrun" and it's my favorite racing game on the switch. It feels like a classic arcade game and has just a great sense of speed.

I'm really looking forward to another relaxing SNES or switch music compilation based off of some of these games! There are some absolute bangers that would put me right in study/work mode.

Love Golf Story and Huntdown. Great you mentioned them :)

Cross Code is an excellent game. I would highly recommend it. I would also recommend Gravity Circuit. Fantastic game that goes on sale on the eShop from time to time. If you like Mega Man at all, you gotta play this. Hades is a great game as well. I picked that up for 10 bucks and I have been playing the hell out of it recently. But I feel like everyone already knows about Hades. Dave the Diver was a lot of fun, while still being a very relaxing game. My son and I got addicted to that game for 2 months straight. It's not for everyone, but we loved it. And finally, I will mention Fight N' Rage. It's an old school style beat em up that flows really well. If you dig those kind of games, then it's worth your time.

Yes! Rayman Legends is so much fun (especially as it's pretty much always on sale). 10 mins before a Ken Griffey jr reference as well...

It's easy to find indie games that are fun for everybody, but hard to find games that are obscure yet uniquely engaging to me specifically. I paid a buck for "Clan O'Conall And The Crown Of The Stag" and while it wasn't life-changing, I loved it for what it was. A breezy Lost Vikings-esque puzzle platformer doing Celtic mythology with a Samurai Jack artstyle

Thx for this. Just picked up the official expansion pack to get old snes classics and while a lot is familiar, there's a ton of obscura in there. A video on hidden gems and/or what not to waste your time on in the packs would be greatly appreciated, puttin' it out there. Or even what the hell is going on, in some cases.

This may sound weird, but critics completely misjudged Mario Super Golf Rush. It's a very deep game. You can play crazy cartoon, but you can also strip it down to a hardcore golf game that will crush your soul.😅

Another Crusade - It's basically a spiritual successor to Super Mario RPG, but everyone is a puppet like Geno and Bowser is a real Dragon. Super funny, makes several jokes towards Super Mario RPG, and just feels great. Lots of great jokes with the protagonist being mute instead of silent. "What am I am Italian Plumber? I can't jump to the roof of a building" "Why are we taking the dangerous mine path? If we didn't, what kind of RPG would this be?"

Hey snes drunk love your channel !!!! Hopefully you can get back to making videos more then once a month. I'm a long time subscriber to your channel. Miss how you'd always upload new videos every week. Hopefully you can get back to that. You got the best channel on all of KZbin! Keep the SNES and nes and genesis game reviews coming :)

I have Slain, Back From Hell, on my XBox One. It's like a combination of Castlevania, and Ghost and Goblins, with a darker theme and definitely worth the price. It's seemingly always on sale, and I picked it up for like $2.50. Can't buy much for 2 and a half bucks these days, let alone a game that's a solid playthrough.

I know there's been times where it was unavailable but Scott Pilgrim versus the world on switch is amazing. Especially the music.

If you need more jrpg remake, Star Ocean 2 remake is a great choice for your next video. The game is a great upgrade from the ps1 version.

It’s cool to see the comment section go to town with its own views and recommendations. I loved Moonrider, but I had it beat in like 2 days and I’m not usually one to go back through on higher difficulty. I will check out Goblin Sword for sure, since I loved both Dragon’s Trap remake and Monster Boy. I’ve had Metal Max in cart a few different times, it looks like something I would like and that series has been going for so long. Undernauts is one I’ve recently been playing and loving. Dungeon crawlers are hit or miss, but the Etrian games are some of my favorites

It’s great to see a switch games recommendation video from you! It would be nice if you could make a video about action/real-time RPGs just like the one you got for the SNES.
