Great video, just a few things i spotted Jamming cleats for the jib has too much play in the bearings, needs to be more positive. You dont want the cleat lifting when trying to uncleat and during the upwind leg the cleat was moving allowing the slot on the jib to open when a gust hit. The starboard side jammer was the worst. Really they need wet boots on, I have broken two toes sailing, it is not fun and I think i would have slightly more rig tension, leeward shroud seemed a bit slack but saying all that I have not raced a snipe What do you all think?

I'm pretty new to Snipes but I will tell you a few things to consider about the shroud tensions. Snipes have very bendy masts. SCIRA rules prohibit adjusting shrouds and spreaders during a race. Snipes have a mast fore/aft adjustment that creates alot of pre-bend on the lower portion of the mast. The jib halyard acts as the forestay and the tension is constantly being changed. All this effects the shrouds. Also main cunningham, and vang have a ton of purchase. Also there is a jib cunningham. down wind it is common to push the mast forward, and upwind pull it back. Simply put, Snipes have endless adjustments that are constantly being changed, except the side shroud length/tension and spreader lengths/angles. those you can't touch during a race. However before races often they are also adjusted slightly depending on the wind. I just gave myself a headache writing that but Snipes are cool!

How do you get under the boom ?
@matthewjohns72202 жыл бұрын
they are pretty high on a Snipe. I am 6 feet and the boom goes right over my head. the only thing that could potentially cause a problem is the vang for the crew. You just have to duck a little.
