If you’ve done a single course on diet and nutrition, clearly you know everything? As if. Thyroid, the master hormone regulator is actually extremely important for metabolic processes and can impact how the body uses food, stimulates hunger (hint, this is yet another hormone) and converts cholesterol into hormones. Leptin, grehlin, insluin all play a delicate balance in appetite and weight, screw one up and they are all a mess. If its just about eating calories, then how do you explain the weight gain caused by certain prescription medications? Why do people on steroids immediately gain weight? And certain antidepressants? This includes patients in confined settings who have no access to extra food? Maybe you need a course on biology and pharmacology to actually improve your knowledge of diet and nutrition. And that’s not even touching on the fact that everyone’s body releases differing amounts of insulin (the fat storage hormone) to different foods meaning a thin person without a metabolic disorder would release a small burst of insulin at the 45min mark post eating and it would quickly dissapate, yet someone else would generate 20x the same release that keeps going for two hours after a meal. This means that second person will continue to be storing all food intake as fat (removing glucose out of the circulatory system) and the other person would be using that meal for energy.
@1588chrissy5 жыл бұрын
ron donnis the body clearly can produce its own energy - the process of gluconeogenesis is the very product allowing it to use components of the body (whether this be stored in the form of fat cells, amino acids, etc) to create glucose for use which is the basis of this. Otherwise the body would die when you stopped eating.

I was a secret eater. Or maybe not secret…but mindless. I ate healthy foods, but was grazing and put on weight. I started eating one meal a day so I could know I was not mindlessly eating. I eat a very balanced large meal and the weight is coming off. I think for people who do this, it can really help to try one meal a day or a very strict type of eating window of 4-8 hours. Everyone tells you to eat lots of small meals, but this was a disaster for me. I had no true idea how much I was eating.
@nhugh234 жыл бұрын
I think that's a huge thing though, when Emma said she didn't cut out anything, just portioned better. Eating what you want is fine, so long as you stick to what you need to intake for the days as opposed to just eating mindlessly. When you have a takeaway or plan one, just remember that you're having it and make sure you don't pig out and eat less calorie-dense foods the rest of the day. It's takeaway day in my house tomorrow. Lunch and breakfast will be small because I want Chinese and I won't eat it all but because I don't want to gain weight and I want something unhealthy, I need to be smart about it.
@ranjapi6932 жыл бұрын

It's often about the way food is dealt with in the home. I used to teach healthy eating in primary schools. Then you would have children who were given pastries for breakfast and a Pot Noodle for dinner. They would bring in lunch boxes full of crisps and chocolate biscuits. In one job we tried to work with the families to encourage healthy eating, trying to support cooking with healthy food etc and we had families where the adults weren't interested and where they drank energy drinks all day and McDonald's in the evening. You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

We don't tend to eat dinner around tables in the UK, bar perhaps the Sunday lunch, holidays and special occasions.
