@@toastedtoastontoast PCOS is very different from hypothyroidism. PCOS makes it more difficult to lose weight. Hypothyroidism makes it literally impossible without medication as it decreases your metabolism immensely.

@@julieannanderson2228 Someone with hypothyroidism in the family here!." In general, 5-10 pounds of body weight may be attributable to the thyroid, depending on the severity of the hypothyroidism". Hyperthyroidism existed before the obesity epidemic. My mother is obsese, and I am a healthy weight but on the upper end. The difference? She eats a bowl of chocolate every night, larger portions than me. Yet complains constantly because she has "low fat" foods and goes to weight watchers every week. Me? I lift heavy weights. do HIIT in the gym 3 times week and watch every mouthful that goes into my mouth. I don't eat chocoate, chips, crisps, fried foods or even bread that often. I rarely eat pasta or rice. I'm on the upper end of healthy because of my hormones. My mum is obese because she eats terribly and won't walk across the road. Yes hypothyroidism can make you about a stone or two overweight, but if you metabolism got so low that 1000 calories a day would make you gain weight, you'd have a LOT more seriously wrong with you than you weight.

@@MarlopolyGaming Well said. I know a lot of people that try to use it as an excuse for their massive weight but the reality is that they're not trying. If you're burning more calories than you're consuming, hyperthyroidism or not, you're going to lose weight.

She is partially right; in order to lose the body needs water to help purge itself. Plus, if she is constantly lacking liquidity, her body will seek other water resources, speak food. Any serious loss programm emphasizes drinking enough water(up to 2l) or unsweetened herbal/green tea to literally flush the system.

You don't notice a lot of things that you do daily. It's like driving to work, you do it but you don't actually register it. I had the same with food, I thought my metabolismn was way to fast and my doctor checked my hormons for hashimoto. Severly underweight, high blood pressure, often very cold then very hot. But my hormons were ok. 2017 I started a food diary and weight all my food. Yeah, let's say I didn't eat nearly enough and I was on my feet running around up to 12h a day. "But I had biscuits at lunch!" Yeah, 300 calories worth of biscuits AS my lunch. And nothing else. I gained around 20 pounds since then but am still underweight. I simply forget to eat and then wonder why my trousers get bigger again.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 I'm constantly busy and food is not a priority. I do eat breakfast every day, but two pieces of toast with cheese aren't that much. Then I work, when I was in the office last year I'd pick on some biscuits at lunch, now I'm still working from home and when I take a break I do the laundry, hoover, work out etc. And then pick on some biscuits. Today after work I did the weekly grocery haul, cleaned my flat, took a 30 minute walk and then had an online course for advanced statistics from 6-10pm. Now I'm laying in bed and yes I do feel a bit peckish, but in my mind that can wait until tomorrow. 2017 when it was that bad I was working as a supermarket manager, buzzing around the store 10-12 hours per day and also studying full time. Like getting up at 4:30, work till 16, home, change, drive to Uni for a course till 22. I function purely on coffee and biscuits some times :D but I do cook when I have some free time and a sporadic binge of a pizza with crisps and mayo keeps my weight within the less dangerous range. It's just not something that's in my daily routine. Like you'd forget to water the plants or to put away the clean laundry.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 In another episode they explained you don't really register things you eat on the go or casually, if it's not a situation where the food is the focus your mind doesn't register it as a meal and you mindlessly eat. I still don't think it should be a surprise to them that they're overweight, but grabbing something quick (ie processed) because you're hungry or it's free and forgetting about it later is not uncommon.

@MsSunhappy It's totally different though. Most of people on SS vs SS know their eating habits are terrible, although often they don't realize the extent of their problem. People on SE are absolutely convinced that they don't eat enough to be fat. There should be a show like this for underweight people who think they can eat everything and just have a fast metabolism, because those are nearly always the same people who 'forget to eat' and actually undereat massively.

I really don't understand how these people can be in denial. When I go shopping, I know exactly what I buy and therefore what I'll eat. These people say they eat healthy, then open a cabinet revealing junk!

@Simon Tormod yep, i cant eat tons of stuff, lots of carbs and in every category of food as well, i still cant remember what's okay what's not, so i check before getting the food all the time, for home cook, i just use the exact same list everytime...yepppp(n its the same place...) i dont understand why ppl bother to discover...i actually spent more time at the cleaning and electronic section more, just wondering and not buy anything... i just didnt hv that much obsession to food shopping. (credit to another british show compulsory cleaner supermarket to me its more ab cleaning supplies ...)

Marjatta Kolari It’s actually similar for me. Since I became vegan I do relatively little snacking and if I do, I usually eat veggies or fruit (or make my own cookies etc) because there isn’t a lot of sweets that aren’t ridiculously overpriced. I’m actually happier since I changed my food habit. Although sometimes I wish to just eat something like a cheese pizza lol.

Pugga RunsInUnderworld This might help you out- Dough: 1 cup flour 1 cup almond milk yogurt 2 tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp salt Bake at 425 F for at least ten to fifteen minutes, depending on how thin or thick you made the dough, take out to add veggies and yummy items, and bake until satisfaction. We utilize Trader Joe’s for cheaper ingredients if you have that in your area. Most expensive item would be the yogurt. Freaking love it and is easy to make vegan. 🌱 hope it helps!

Pugga RunsInUnderworld If going vegan, there is a channel on KZbin called ‘vegan deterioration’ and she has been keeping record of how the ‘vegan’ diet has effected people over the years. It’s very interesting to binge watch and see what’s happening to real people over their time as vegans. Just promise me that if you start to get any health issues that you’ll look into your diet! Our choice of ‘foods’ and info on social media is so messed up these days, we must look to our ancestors for ideas on how we should be eating to thrive. The rich want to keep the nutritious foods for themselves.. while everyone else must live on sugar and veg. It’s organic animal products that are the way to go. Said from personal experience!

none of these participants are financially that well off... middle class families... and I always wonder how much money they waste with all the restaurants and take outs... a significant portion of their income i suppose. this does not only affect their physical health but also their financial health. This woman Katie is one of the laziest participants I have seen on this show. She is also quite nasty to her husband.

I started drinking more to combat constant headaches from dehydration (bad at remembering to drink enough, so I bought a re-usable bottlle and keep it with me constantly) and you do eat less if you drink enough, some people mistake needing a drink for feeling hungry if they aren't used to listening to their body, so drinking more might well help you lose a bit of weight by eating less, but not by as much as Katie thinks

At first I was like "oh my gosh how can they not realise??" But watching this made me notice all the little things I do and not really think about! I appreciate how this show is poking fun a bit, but is at the end of the day quite non-judgmental. It's like "hey, we all make mistakes, we all do things without realising." I feel like a lot of weight focused shows are like "you haven't lost weight you must be lying!" But this show shows that it is so easy to not realise.

Anna, if there is a slim ;) chance of you reading this comment - thank you for the great job you are doing. Especially surprising in the best possible way is that you manage to avoid fat-shaming people. You are genuinely sympathetic towards them and there's never a shade of "shame on you, you should be ashamed of yourself, you lazy cow" - like remarks that are overused in similar programmes. They may have dramatic effect that would stir certain emotions, but are totally counter-productive as for weight loss. Your sense of humour is cruelty-free and I find the kind approach towards dieters much more effective than typical bullying. There are other ways to reach people and you are using them well. I am watching the series with personal interest - need to loose a stone or two ;) and am going to use some strategies mentioned. Thanks for being so kind :)
