A few people wanted to know where I was striking on the cue-ball for each shot. This is a little recap video showing where I am hitting for each of the shots. Hope you enjoy.

Hadn't thought about final lines before, I usually just think how can I make this shot as simple as possible... but really I should be thinking what's best for overall simplicity too. This should really help bring my game to the next level. Cheers pal

Love this video. I've never seen any other teacher talk about this. I would love it if there was some "snooker theory course work" for want of a better phrase, to learn these lines and how to play them, and to help improve my snooker knowledge. Is there anything like that available?

Could you do a video about the psychological things in snooker as well. Like how to still remain focused if it's clearly not your day and you just can't get a grip on even the easy single red balls. You could talk what keeps you going and how to stay positive. I don't know if I understand wrong but for me it always feels like that if one person suddenly starts to play too well it decreases the opportunities of the second player. Why is it like that? Can it be about the psychological weakness of your mind that you couldn't even pot the easy balls? Then maybe instead of practising 1 hour on the table you should go and meditate about your mental strength let's say in the woods perhaps?
@arsalankhan147

I have felt that too. If i am playing well my opponent (not matter how good he is playing) will suddenly start to make silly mistakes or vice versa. I believe this is purely psychological. It is pressure that the other player cannot seem to handle. The thought of making ONE mistake and letting the other player IN which will result in 30 or 40 points going against you will make u crumble. Fear will kick in and it will disturb your mental balance at the point in time. You will consequently over think resulting in silly mistakes because now you are not in your comfort zone. For me the answer lies in "Focus". dont think about what the other player is doing. Dont over think. Dont try to go into a shell. play your natural game. Trust your instinct. All of this is not easy but as we have seen the professional players do it on screen everyday... it is not impossible.

@@arsalankhan147 Thanks a lot for your response. It is quite funny to me because I someday play just for fun, really don't care about who loses or not. Even if I'm behind I feel fine but still I start to make silly mistakes like you said. It may be also something to do with my subconscious. But I still think that this is the thing that all the players need to improve. Look at Mark Williams for example, pure role model for dealing with pressure, at least he never shows like being under it. Even the World Champ title he won last year, I would have been shivering when seeing how Higgins responded him, especially the WSC pink ball he missed and the next frame he cleared up. Simply WOW

Some thoughts... We are focusing on is very small number of steps in a routine that we repeat hundreds of times in a days playing. So we get lazy: we take shortcuts in 'the routine', or we move onto the next step before the previous step is complete. We get discouraged: because something is not working when we think it should be working, we decide that it's hopeless, we can't figure out what is going wrong to the point of not being able to see clearly what we are doing in all parts of 'the routine'. We get overconfident: shots are going great and we decide we can just go onto auto pilot and then stop doing 'the routine', cause we are so good! Haha. We get distracted: our minds just can't stay attached to 'the routine'. I like to try and forget who my opponent is and just play against my own performance. I may lose games but if I played well, I actually win that game against myself.

Great video. It's sometimes hard to convince someone of the control they can get by using the cushions, but this visualised it perfectly.

Do you just move the cue tip, when playing side, or do you re-align the whole cue?
@BartonSnooker
@BartonSnooker 5 жыл бұрын
Good question! You need to realign the whole cue. When I get down to a shot and I'm using side, I will have allowed for any throw and adjustments when I'm standing up. Once I am then down on the shot, everything is exactly where it would normally be on my body. The cue is pointing perfectly straight with all my contact points, but I'll just be addressing to the side of the cue ball. You can't get down how you normally would and then adjust, you'll be twisting the cue off-line and that's not good.

Hi,I’ve been playing for about ten years,not a pro but better than normal,my most break was around 80 and just for once or twice,one thing that I’ve been obsessing is the line up and not the full one just the simple five red between pink and black,but the problem is that I’ll make it every time out of twenty try’s,sometimes i miss the pocket sometime bad position and all of the time making mistakes on the simple shots,I’m getting tired of it and beginning to think maybe it’s not just heavy practice maybe others know something I don’t,and i keep saying what’s the problem,is it my technic is it my focus is it my cueing, I’ve looked every where every book every video but I don’t get it,something is missing and i don’t know what.i mean i have potted same shots thousand times and controlled the cue ball for the same positions a thousand times but why can’t it become a good break all in one,all the time silly and simple misses. If it is possible help with one good video.thanks a lot.
