New World Snooker Champion Kyren Wilson talks about his journey to the top, the future of the Crucible Theatre, why he wants to become world No 1 and his friendship with darts player 'Rapid' Ricky Evans.
Wilson landed his first World Snooker Championship title with an 18-14 victory over dogged qualifier Jak Jones at the Crucible on Monday.
His win was a long time coming for 32-year-old Wilson, who was twice previously runner-up in Sheffield and at the Masters, but had struggled to make the big-time breakthrough that many believed his prodigious talent was due.

I’m really happy for Kyren, I’ve been hoping for him to do well after his previous run to the finals. After watching the first round matches this year, he was in my top three for most likely to win this time round, based on the way he was conducting himself. Damn, should have put a bet on! I was waiting for this interview. Its amazing, no update on him. Perhaps he's got the least 'personality' of any of the competitors. Had Si or Mark Williams or Judd or Ronnie won it the press would have been busy for a few days.

He's worked hard but the inconsistencies mean he doesn't win many trophies. He played well in the world championship and I don't remember many bad sessions. I just feel it is going to be more like Brecel and although it came good that tournament I don't think he'll win many more trophies. Mind you none of the top 16 are that consistent so number one will change several hundred times this year. We will see...

I don't think Kyren will fall off like Brecel. Kyren is a lot more professional and consistent, he's a legit top 16 player. Granted I don't think he's at the level of Selby, O'Sullivan, Higgins, Williams or Neil Robertson when he's at his best, but he's definitely in the next group along with Allen and the likes. He could definitely win the Masters of UK in the future. He's a world champ now and no one will be able to take that away from him.

He hasn't been properly tested yet. Ronnie would have been shattered after all the hype as World# 1 and everyone saying he will win it. Both him and William's didn't play anywhere near their best. But Wilson and Jones did played out of their skins

Yeah he's very lucky with the player's he got but the chances of winning it again are very slim! He's very deliberate & robotic to watch, just not very easy on the eye! All the faces bombed this year for whatever reason, can't see that happening again, it was very unusual. Fair play to the boy, he worked hard for it.
