Hi buddy, Great video again. I personally don't like to use pyro/taom 2.0,,,i love the way they don't mess up my table with the chalk marks, but as you say in your video it seems to disappear into thin air,,,, i believe that that is exactly what it does as it is such a fine/powdery chalk, the reason i won't use them is because i think we are breathing in those "ever so fine" particles BECAUSE they disappeared into fresh air, and also the proximity of our head to cue tip when ball is struck and sends the particles flying (especially if you stay down on the shot as Nic recommends) i think we are too close to the invisible dust cloud,,,, now i am not saying its harmful but just prefer to know i am not inhaling it.....triangle chalk is my choice, good grip, and served snooker players very well over the years, makes horrible mess but at least you know where the chalk dust IS. Sorry if this sounds controversial, it is only my idea of what may be happening to the disappearing chalk. Keep up the good work.

@@TheSnookerShed I love watching your videos,,,, theres always something to learn and you explain things well. My personal biggest snooker problem is consistency because i seem to lose focus very easily and when that happens my timing goes to ratsh"t,,,, i think i play best when concentrating fully but not actually "aware" of how much i am concentrating. If that makes any sense. Its a great feeling of flow in a kind of relaxed, not thinking about it way, when i play well, but when i am not in the "zone" i think i end up putting my concentration on "trying" rather than on snooker. A video on timing would be excellent. I am lucky enough to have my own "snooker shed" just need 1 of your t shirts to go with it, :)

@@andrewrafferty566 thanks Andrew Focus is a skill that we need to learn I’m still looking for the best way to concentrate and get then into the flow state. What I do find though so far is that if I focus on the contact point as I deliver I miss less and if I then focus on the ball going in it leads to much better concentration. It’s almost like homing my brain into the moment. Hopefully soon we will have a guest on that’s right into flow state and mind performance. Hahaha hey I put out a call out for people to do the outro and grab a t shirt to do it in

I never considered this but you're right. You only have to watch a table being brushed to see the amount of chalk in the cloth. If that is all air borne and you are breathing it in, maybe once or twice every now and again would be fine, but if you're playing most days and like you say - staying down on the shot - then over time you're actually breathing in a heck of a lot of chalk dust - fine particulate matter that has been known for at least a century to cause lung damage, in some cases severe. If its good enough for the likes of Ronnie O, then it's good enough for me.

I switched from triangle to Toam and the difference I find is night and day. For one thing I find is when I’m using the toam, the balls and the table tend to be much cleaner, when I was using triangle I was making one heck of a mess especially on shots where I had to use a lot of pace and as a result I would have to get the brush out just clean off the chalk dust off the table and a cloth to clean the balls every time. It was a massive pain. Secondly I actually find the Toam is more beneficial to my health, when I was using the triangle, I was coughing constantly, in some cases I could not concentrate on some shots and end up missing due to me coughing at the wrong time, The bloody thing goes everywhere. still, could be worse, I have heard some reports that triangle chalk in the its early days contained asbestos! But when I started using the Toam the coughing stopped immediately. This is due to the fact it never goes in the air but rather goes on the table as tiny chunks. I find also there was much less chance of kicks happening when playing, interestingly, The only two players who are using triangle chalk in the world championships, Ronnie and Judd were the only players as far as I’m aware of that suffered kicks due to the chalk they were using. Every other player I noticed was using Toam or the Ding Junhui chalk (also made by Toam) did not have this problem at all. It was tragic in Ronnie’s case as his kick happened during a 147 attempt, if he had been using a different type of chalk, it’s very likely he would’ve made his 16th career 147 and his 4th at the Crucible, beating Stephen Hendry‘s record of 3 maximums. Lastly, I found with the Toam you could just put it in your pocket without accessories with no mess, when I would use a block of triangle, I would have to have one of those plastic clip on things just to make sure it didn’t make a mess and it would constantly fall off and I would lose it. Since I’m here I might as well list off of what chalk the snooker players were using during the world championships. Barry Hawkins used the light blue or Green Toam 2.0. Sean Murphy used the Toam soft. Stephen Maguire used the Toam Pyro. John Higgins, Mark Williams, Neil Robinson, Stuart Bingham and Mark Selby used the Toam V10. Ding Junhui, Yan Bingtao and Zhao Xintong used the Ding junhui chalk. Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump used the standard triangle chalk. Those are the only ones I know on top of my head, I may have made a few mistakes. Anyway, cheers.

Good to see a visual comparison between all of these chalks side by side. For me I find that the ideal chalk is somewhere in between the standard Triangle and the Taom variants. I find that when im using Taom I have the same issue of feeling like the chalk isnt taking to the tip too well and therefor leaves me with a lack of confidence on certain shots and because of that mental setback I miss those shots before I even get down to cue it and alot of the time end up miscue-ing. At first I thought it was just a bad tip, but several tips later and still the same issue. If Triangle chalk could find a way to leave less marks on both cue ball and table then I think it would be without a doubt the best chalk on the market. The idea behind Taom is supposed to be that it holds itself to the tip much better which means you can play a much higher amount of shots without needing to chalk your cue in comparison to other chalks, which is why you don't see the visible marks on the cloth/ball - it's just that it's still on the tip! The end result of the chalk holding to the tip better and needing less chalking of the cue, means that although the price of Taom is incredibly high, it will completely outlast any other brand on the market by a long long way. You will probably find that although Triangle is much much cheaper, you will more than likely spend double the amount of a single Taom piece if you were to replace your Triangle chalk each time it wears down in the long run

Spot on pal Triangle is a good chalk that’s why it’s lasted so long it’s great value. Taom no holding to the tip is a problem I don’t get with the pyro but I get the lumps of it on the CB. As for not needing to chalk as much yes you don’t by quite a bit but my issue is it’s just impossible to count this out,we chalk all the time every shot sometimes 3-5 times lol it’s hard enough to play then add in to remember you only need to chalk once every 5 shots. Yeah, three years this month. Aaah ❤😍 tbh I thought it would be like the other pursuits in my life - do it for a bit, eventually it would taper off and I'd move on. Snooker is such a deep game, there's no way to get to the bottom of it. 22 balls set up the same way , a rectangular table and within one strike, the pattern of balls on the table is a unique and never to be repeated event. I think that's part of the charm. I would have loved to have had a snooker shed of my own but the frigging garden is too narrow! (what are the minimum dimensions you would need, because I have a table in my loft that's doing nowt, cost me nothing, if I could physically fit it in, I will) you can see from your channel how much it has helped you. Great channel pal, thanks for putting the effort in.

I recently moved from Triangle to Taom. Started with Triangle blue, then went to green, then back to blue. Triangle blue went on really well, but left heaps on the cue ball. Green didn't cover the tip very well and left heaps on the table so went back to blue. Felt like green was almost too dry? Switched the Taom Pyro, like you said it doesn't go on as well as Triangle but doesn't leave any marks on the ball or table.

In my opinion, the Taom chalk works fine if you have a good cue action, but if you're like me, an average Jo who struggles to keep the cue in a straight line after contact with the object ball, you will miscue a lot, from my experience (and friends) that have tried it, ordinary triangle or pro works best.

Miscues have nothing to do with chalk. While i'm running around the table i rarely use chalk. Chalk is only necessary on draw and extreme english shot. Slight english does not require chalk. However at higher level games such as league, money matches, or tournaments, you want to reduce all risk of miscues which is why we chalk almost every shot. For a fun run around i don't chalk at all.

Good video. I never have the issue with chunks coming off the Pyro. It’s a softer chalk which goes on easier so you have to chalk it lightly or too much chalk will go on the tip causing the big chunks on the CB. The new Taom v10 is superb also, just give your tip a light covering you’ll find it covers well, has superb grip and doesn’t leave any marks on the CB or cloth. anyone playing to a decent standard should avoid triangle chalk as it has a high risk of kicks and big bounces (caused by those big blobs left on the CB after each shot) put a bit of chalk on the cushion and see the difference in the bounce.

@@TheSnookerShed I will watch a few tonight. It’s not the amount you’re chalking. You should chalk every shot with Taom and make sure all the tip is covered it’s the pressure. Over pressure will mean a thick clump will be pushed on the tip causing that big clump to impregnate on the cb when you take a shot. A bit late to the party on this but I really liked Master chalk before switching to Taom Soft. So would be interested to hear your opinion on it. Did make a mess of the table though but found it gave better grip for me than triangle at the time. Now I love how clean the table looks using Toam 😀

Hey pal I tried the Russian chalk and found it left calk on the cue ball. I do use it for that very reason when helping players identify where they are striking the cue ball. @@TheSnookerShed Well, deciding when to chalk, I have noticed, is purely based on my instinct. I just "feel" that I need to chalk for that shot that I am going to play. I don't chalk every shot. Also, another thing about the Ding chalk - it lasts forever. Never going back to triangle again (although its a decent chalk). The tip matters too. I only use a good hard elkmaster. I cant seem to like any of the layered tips. Its like having a small clutch on a car. And they don't hold the chalk very well either.

@@TheSnookerShed Hi again Andy. The reason I like Predator so much is when I use side the tip of the cue doesn`t seem to ever slip on the cue ball so therefore the cue ball stays on course and I usually make the shot.(Maybe allowing for some throw) The Russian seems pretty good but I`ve never tried Triangle Pro. a key aspect has to be how "much" chalk goes on the tip - ie how long does each type of chalk last? Have you found a noticeable difference? I suspect the dust from Triangle varieties is not just left on the table and cueball but also dust in the air. An issue with the Taom has to be that unless everyone is using it, you have to deal with all the Triangle/other chalk on the cue ball and table left behind by others - sadly quite a mess!
@TheSnookerShed
@TheSnookerShed 3 жыл бұрын
Yes very true indeed just in the recent game between John Higgins and Ronnie there was this issue,Ronnie only uses Triangle. The thing is with the new chalks there is a skill in how to use it correctly. I am going to review v10 and anther chalk that is the softest in the world and costs the most I believe. I play pool not snooker so may effect my views but for me the fact that taom stuff costs like 40x more than the triangle chalk just isn't worth it at all, and I've found the higher price I go in chalk the less convenient it is, takes longer to chalk and the chalk does go on the top as nice, I'd rather just clean the ball after every frame and wipe of the chalk with my hand between shots for the fact it costs nothing and has a nice feel....also I sit the chalk in the corner of the pocket, a circular chalk is just annoying as it doesn't sit as nice so I have to put that shit on the table which is inconvenient
@TheSnookerShed
@TheSnookerShed Жыл бұрын
Yeah i agree it’s more expensive But it last me about 40 x longer . As a snooker player a chalk mark on the cue ball is a big disadvantage as we get a kick Thanks for watching pal Do you get a kick in pool
@troyg1337
@troyg1337 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSnookerShed of course you do it's the same sport pretty much just different rules, I think a kick effects a snooker player more and there's more travel distance, like you can get a kick in pool and the travel distance is so short that it can still go in, but also a game of pool can be over in 8 shots or less if you have a good break so we can clean the white quite regularly, but I did dabble a bit in snooker a few seasons ago and tbh I used my triangle chalk and felt fine I have no issue paying that premium ifffff it was a significant improvement to my game but I think half hours worth of practice drills will do alot more for your game than paying for that chalk, and I think the money can be better spent, like cheap tip with premium chalk Vs premium tip with triangle chalk, would be an interesting experiment but I'm pretty sure the premium tip would win out

@@troyg1337 yeah that’s a good shout most club players take many shots in a frame of snooker. And a kick can make a big difference. Triangle is still a very popular choice in snooker and pool mainly because it’s cheap for clubs to buy and give free. I think like everything else chalk has improved no marks on the cue ball and no marks on the cloth. I think only 2-3 professional snooker players still use triangle. It just stains the cloth and at over £600 a pop for the club it’s not worth it. Really it the mess for me I agree with your comments on the other video only the very best can feel a difference. The grip most chalks and tips are almost the same in the hands of a club player.
