Meilani and my son are so alike! Also, my husband had the same experience with a cop when my son was acting out. My husband told him he would get in trouble with the cop and the cop said he shouldn’t teach him that cops are bad.

I understand what the cop meant because in a time where cops are so hated in society it is understandable why he wouldn’t want the young generations to have a hateful relationship with them as well. He may have said it meanly but I totally understand where he was coming from. I sometimes wish my mom wouldn’t have taught me to be scared of cops because that’s what causes tension and problems with them usually.

About the cop comment. Every parent has said that so don’t feel guilty. Back in the 50s cops would say that to kids if they were disrespectful to their parents. Now they don’t want it said because if a child gets lost they might be scared to approach a police officer for help.

my little cousin who i think was 7 at the time was at the mall with her mom. her mom walked to the food court to buy somwthi g to eat for my younger cousin my other cousin stayed at this stored with my mom and sbe asked my mom mom if she could have a toy my mom ask your mom but her mom was gone so my little cousin walked out of the store with the toy to ask her mom if she could have it but the food court is sooo far away from the store we were at😂😂😂😂 so my aunt made her walk back to pay for the toy talked to her about not walkinb oit of stores with things you have not paod for

I agree. There are more emotionally healthy ways to get your children to behave than to manipulate them with fear. I know it’s an easy go-to, but there are other ways to deal with acting up, such as taking away a privilege, or offering a simple explanation to the child why they can’t act that way and then taking them to sit in a time out. However, I watched all of Jersey Shore. Compared to the mess these two were back then, they’re doing ok as moms. Ladies if by some chance you’re reading this - you can never go wrong with compassion and empathy for your children. That won’t spoil them, you need to have an understanding of what is developmentally normal for children at each phase. Holding them to unreasonable standards will only cause dysfunction. So how to keep from spoiling them? Be firm with healthy boundaries, don’t go back on promised consequences, offer brief explanations they can understand and remove them from the situation if they’re acting up.
