Back under the lake worth pier again, and as usual it never disappoints. So many different species of fish on this particular trip. Wanna know how I identify fish species? I use the website listed below. Theres so many different species of fish here in Florida, from Sharks, to Rays and everything in between, and the Lake Worth Pier is one of the best places to see them all!
Using my custom pier camera rigs, I am able to film in areas that have been deemed off limits for divers and thus unmanned cameras come in handy. Doing my best to stay away from all the fishing action, which was fantastic on 08/16/2024, I managed to make two videos from a short visit to this amazing pier.
Common Snook: Known for their distinctive features, Snooks can reach lengths of up to 48 inches and weigh as much as 38 pounds. They are characterized by a sloping forehead, a large mouth with a protruding lower jaw, a prominent dorsal fin, and a black lateral line extending to their tail. Their coloration ranges from dark brown on the back to silvery on the sides and white underneath. During spawning season, their pelvic and caudal fins take on a yellow hue. These hermaphroditic fish transition from male to female as they mature and are typically found in near-shore vegetative habitats like river mouths and salt marshes. Common Snook are highly prized among divers exploring the waters under the Lake Worth Pier, always a delightful sight to capture on camera.

Abundant in coastal, tropical, and subtropical waters, Nurse Sharks are a common sight in the nearshore regions of both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Florida. Nurse Sharks are among the more frequently encountered species during dives, showcasing their docile nature and distinctive appearance.
