Snoop Doggy Dogg's original depute was not "Doggystyle" in 1993. It was "Over The Counter" in 1991. It was essentially some tracks Snoop had done on his own before he came to Death Row and many were early Death Row cuts. "Over The Counter" was never pressed to CD and never really distributed. At this time Death Row had a temporary distribution deal directly with Time Warner. Death Row bounced around on several companies before signing to Interscope. Compared to the later albums it is sort of an awkward album as far as production and guest appearances. This particular song was recorded in 1991.
So that's the story. Many claim this album to be fake. Many claim it was a hoax created by a guy with too much time on his hands. But no one has ever asked Snoop himself, so we'll never know for sure until then. Over the past few years "Over The Counter" has became sort of a myth in the hip hop underworld. You can determine it's legitimacy.
