Snorkeling at Boca Catalina Beach - Part. 1 - North - Aruba
Located on the northwest side of the island of Aruba, Boca Catalina Beach is a popular snorkeling site accessed from a white sand beach. I dare say that it is one of the best snorkeling sites on the island.
Its waters are calm and translucent and there are shallow coral reefs populated with colorful fish.
There are three zones:
1. Herbaria. This is where you can see green turtles who enjoy this area where they find rest as well as food. It is also possible to encounter flying gurnards and tropical turbots.
2. The area bordering the rocky point marking the northern limit of the beach. The bottoms are mainly rocky and are colonized by corals and sponges. This area is also shallow and abounds with reef fish (wrasse, box fish, trumpet fish, butterfly fish and groups of hundreds of juvenile gorettes). However, visibility in this area is variable.
3. The coral massifs located about a hundred meters offshore from the rocky point. It is in this area that we find the most beautiful corals, sea feathers and gorgonians of Boca Catalina. Barracudas, French angelfish, trevally and grunts are numerous around the reefs.
