VALUABLE KNOWLEDGE!! THANK YOU!!! -Robbie from Kentucky, Firefighter with a mustache

That was excellent. I learned to dive with a lite mustache and always had vaseline in my bag to form a seal. Now with a big beard, I don't know what to expect and that is why I watched your video. I think a little trimming and a proper fitting mask is the next step. Thanks for your tips.

Any chance you could do a video on how to fit a full face mask properly? Like you I have a full beard and want to get back into diving after a long time out of the game. Many thanks, great advice!

I have made it work for several years with silicone grease, I don't think it's that bad, soap and water gets all the residual off, Vaseline works... doesn't stick as much but won't last half as long I spearfish so I'm out there 2 to 4 hrs at a time. Pick your poison, shaving or trimming right below the nose, and clearing a tiny bit of skin helps a bunch. Cheers..

Mark!!! I just found you! Wohoo! Thank goodnes :) i was supposed to do my idc on utila this week.... But im stuck here in canada doing a gear upgrade! New teric and first mtx-rc in western canada here tomorrow!

There are worse places to do your IDC... You have good taste in dive gear though, so you'll go far. If you want to do some reading during this down period I've been going through RAID's library of manuals, you can download them all for free right now and it's great to keep up the mindset.

@@SafeDiving i feel like a year of you and shaun yelling get the teric might have stuck with me. But on that note. I did pick up the aqualung wireless transmitter but im finding very little about them. Any chance you could do a vid on them? Youd be the only one. Im worried about taking it on and off my new reg as each time it risks open ports. Do you pull yours off each time? Thanks man!

PERSONALLY I have a beard and mustache but I don’t have to do anything about it,,, it just happens to not leak at my mustache but I do keep it short so that might help

I’ve never used a beard balm. Is there a brand that stands out and you recommend?
@SafeDiving8 күн бұрын
@@sbart412 I tend to use whatever I inevitably get for Xmas... Otherwise I use something I think is called Arthur Hawker or something like that because it comes in a handy tin and they usually have an offer on

Would you recommend a full face mask for a beginner? I have a beard that I've been growing a decent amount of time and also have mild jaw issues that the normal regulator worries me about
@bradleykiller313 жыл бұрын
I dive a ocean reef extender in the winter. Bought it when i was beginning scuba deu to very cold waters where i dive. A full face mask is very pricy and extra training is needed. So when you just begin scuba it can become to much. There are special mouth pieces on the market that limit jaw fatigue or you can even get a personal molded mouthpiece. Personally i would try that first before buying a €800 full face mask.

For a full face with a beard, hows the seal around the jaw? I’ve been considering a full face, but wanted to get a hood with smooth neoprene around the outside to seal the mask on top of, but there’s barely any on the market
@SafeDiving4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, fewer and fewer manufacturers make hoods for FFM. Try Santi or Northern Diver. You will get a bit of water in the mask without a hood, but it's never enough to be annoying, the trap at the bottom of most masks purges it with every breath.
@tvrdy34 жыл бұрын
Full face is little bit leaky with beard. Try to find sealing full face mask if you can :/
@TheCryingMonkey4 жыл бұрын
Managed to get a hood from Northern Diver with smooth skin round the outside. Feels like a really good seal dry tested so far, really looking forward to getting back out to try it with my new Spectrum
@buzzr5763 жыл бұрын
@@TheCryingMonkey Hi there PK. Like you I have an ND hood with a new outs spectrum ffm. Are you having trouble with ache in jaw when fitted?
@bradleykiller313 жыл бұрын
Bare also makes hoods special for full face mask. I never had a full face mask leak water though. Not sure if that suppose to happen even with a beard. The overpressure should leak a bit of air out the system but never water inside. I used a ocean reef extender

Hey Mark, can you share what type of beard balm are you using not to damage the mask ? I have one by Reuzel and not sure if i can use it as it is perfumed.

i use simple chapstick bought at the groccery store 5 minutes before my dive as i usually just forget it

What about goggles that don’t cover the nose and using a nose clip? Does this affect pressure diving after 25+ feet, I have recently grown a beard and would like to keep it
@SafeDiving3 жыл бұрын
The mask squeeze would be painful and dangerous because you couldn't equalize the air space. Since I shot this I've seen some mask sealant sticks, a bit like a chapstick, to help get a better seal. You shouldn't have to shave, but you may need to get used to a little water around your nose
