When snow actually makes you warmer because it blocks out the wind and chill

I live in BC, Canada where it gets about -20C (-4F) or so in the winter. What kind of carnivorous plants would do well outside in the garden?But this is also a semi-desert area where it does reach a high of 40C (100F+) in the summer too. I live in the Okanagan area btw. What kind of plants would be fine?
@botanicalchaos

Sarracenia purpurea is the most cold hardy carnivorous plant. Any temperate carnivorous plant would do fine as long as you cover them up when below 20F.

What state are you located? I was thinking about putting an elevated planter in a boggy section of my yard and I was wondering about how a long winter would affect these. It can get down to single digits at night for about 3 months and the highs can reach only about the 20s during that period. What carnivorous plants would be suitable for that?

Sarracenia purpurea would do fine there. I would recommend covering them every night though.

I honestly don’t know but it does freeze in their natural environment

It's been years since my biology class days, but I vaguely recall that plant cells are more rigid than animal or fungi cells. Might make them more resistant to cold damage? Don't quote me on this.

@@Bluecho4 Plant cells have an actual cell wall unlike animal cells so yes, you are correct about that

What do you water your carnivorous plants with? I heard you have to water them with distilled water
@botanicalchaos
@botanicalchaos 3 жыл бұрын
Where I live, rain does 75% of the work for me. I use tap water occasionally (not recommend until you get your tap water tested) but I do recommend rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water.

Can the venus fly traps handle negative temperatures? (Like ferinhite, not celcius) I was just wondering since I live in Idaho and it gets in the negatives here. Or would I have to bring them in during the winter?
