Great video… sometimes you learn more in life by not finishing first. Your kids followed through to the end and didn’t give up. A lot of things in life are now to the point that everyone gets a trophy for just showing up. I like the fact that both Emely and Houston are now looking at what they want to do next year. The family support comes through at all levels and thanks for sharing!

As long as the kids did their best, they should be proud of what they've accomplished. I used to show horses in 4-H, at the county fair and open shows in my area. Let me tell you it was a LOT of work, but I loved it! The kids will find their niche. ❤

Showing up and trying your best is a greater experience than winning that blue ribbon. I grew up in 4-H but instead of cows I showed chickens! Haha I know it sounds weird but it was so much fun and MUCH easier to handle and transport. I never auctioned my chickens but I did with their eggs and made some GOOD money! I'm 23 now and glad my mom put me through 4-H.. it taught me so many life lessons like social skills, presentation skills and the reward of dedication. I had my fair share of tears.. I have a twin sister and we often showed in the same class. Anyway it is so cool to see your kids going through what I did maybe they will have a better time with different livestock or maybe even join one of the clubs they offer.

My Company supports 4H and we try to have conversations with the kids we buy from asking how their experience with their animal went. I wouldn't call it a loss, I would say after mom's grooming, Houston was Grand Champion. Children, especially teenagers tend to be very fleeting in their interests what they enjoy today is boring tomorrow. I’m surprised that Emily and Houston aren’t involved with Safe Sport in 4H. My county has a full slate of target sports, BB, Pellet Rifle, Shotgun, and Archery. Animal showing is fun, and that is what everyone thinks of when they hear 4H, but 4H has a lot of programs that don’t depend on raising and showing livestock. Check with your county Extension Service and see what is available.

The cows are both good looking girls and will be great breeding stock. Horsemanship is the hardest 4-H thing I’ve ever been a part of. Do the kids have a 4-H club leader? We did posters and studies on parasites and had to ride and practice and practice some more. That was in the 70’s and my question is about the clubs.

Always enjoy these videos of the kids getting their animal ready for the cattle show. Some of the best which include them getting the cattle ready to go to the show. Unfortunately other activities came in to play and I’m sure it’s hard to fit everything in that you want. But as you said , it takes a lot of work to show these heifers. And if you don’t take that time then it will show at the Cattle Show. And that’s a shame. Hopefully this is a learning tool for all of you all and have to make some decisions next year about showing or not showing. It’s dedication to what you really want at the end of a project. Houston and Emmalee will have to make that decision. Love watching you guys. Till the next video ! God bless !

One of the best things to come out of this experience is of course that success is built on dogged effort and overcoming failures, thru a passionate fervor and commitment to achieving a goal. That focus is hard to achieve when you are a kid with a busy school and family schedule. If they are blessed with it later, then this early lesson will help them be successful in life.
