Did she chuff back? I heard a brief purr while she was rubbing the cage like a pet cat's "pet me" gesture, but it sounded like all the chuffs were in a human voice.

Chuffing is a friendly noise tigers snow leopards and clouded leopards make when I chuffed at this snow leopard she rubbed up against the mesh expecting pats (I wasn't allowed to pet her though so I think that's why she stopped towards the end)

Sounds more like a steam locomotive losing traction on a hill. Making noises like that in Times Square might get you a date but I doubt she was truly interested. She's lickin' her chops while checking out the children on the tour.
