Pretty impressive, what does the timeline look like for doing the same across the city? Is there an expectation for all streets to be plowed after a certain number of days after a snowfall?
@sabbywins5 күн бұрын
It depends, but broadly, yes. Major roads will be done first, residential streets after that. They will do a first pass on every road with a plow to make sure there is at least one accessible lane, though.

I can't see signs saying they would be plowing. Normally they have disposable signs on the snowbanks. Since it is raining, maybe city decided to remove snow at last minute. This happened to me many years ago when I lived in Montreal, but they moved the cars with no tickets as it was a Main Street.

Quite an operation. I hate to think of the cost of it! We get snow so rarely in England most people just Tay at home and wait for the thaw, usually writhing a couple of days. Goodness knows how we would manage with a prolonged snow event.
@guspazАй бұрын
Montreal has (or did at one point, I've not checked recently) the highest snow removal budget of any city on the planet. It's a combination of several factors: a large city with a population in the millions (so lots of urban and suburban roads to clear), an average of 85 inches of snow per year (so lots of snow to clear), and the city being on an island (so limited dumping space).

@ good. He got it easy. In my city there don’t use blowers they push it all to the side. When the graders come if you don’t move, you get boxed in, fined and you have to dig out your car. Usually the snow is frozen after as well.
@DrPruttekluttАй бұрын
Can You explain a little bit please?! What Time is it when they Start these work? and in the beginning he is beeping to get the People to move their Cars? maybe waking them up? Greetings from Germany 🙂
@maey8910Ай бұрын
so, theres no set time when they start, as far as i know. but the day of the operation, little orange signs are put up on the street poles which warn people not to park on that side of the street for a set time. the beeping is, yes, to get people who are parked on that side of the street to move their cars. and they'll hang out for a while honking. usually, theyll play a siren sound, sort of like an ambulance but with a different tone. eventually, theyll either plow around the offending car or tow the car away so that the plough can go through. ive watched several times as a car is almost towed, only for the driver to come back in the last second and drive it away.
@guspazАй бұрын
The people were told to move their cars in advance and failed to do so, so the honking is to try to get them to come outside to move them. Before the snow clearing operation begins, the tow trucks will drive around the roads sounding a special siren (sounds like a European ambulance siren but much louder and alternating much faster) to remind people to move their cars if they haven't already done so. The snow clearing operation begins soon after the snow has stopped falling, and continues 24/7 until all the snow is cleared. The full operation takes several days. However they are only allowed to sound the siren between 7AM and 9PM. In the winter, the sun sets in Montreal as early as just after 4PM.
