Craft foam will mold similarly with heat and will work in place of the Worbla for this tutorial, but the Worbla will definitely give you a better molded, and sturdier build.

you should've just used a plastic sphere for the apple, sometimes you can find really big ones in those huge toy machines, and just use a heat gun to heat it up and press down the top. the result still looks amazing though!
