I think my favorite aspect of the song is in the chorus how she is talking about trying harder for him while he talks about obedience. Then when she talks about living together in harmony his voice overpowers hers to push his dominance and ownership down on her. It’s subtle control and I love it as that is how a lot of abuse actually happens. It’s often small and ignored till it is too late.

Yea, but...who doesn't want to belong to someone?
@TheShadowp4 Жыл бұрын
@@arcoiriserin theres a difference in belonging to someone by choice vs how it is in this song of being controlled and forced to stay. This is a portrayal of an abusive relationship where she feels trapped and unable to leave because of his domination and gaslighting to make her feel like she simply isn’t trying hard enough to please him.
@unclebounce149511 ай бұрын
@@TheShadowp4 Who's gaslighting whom? I think msot of these types of relationships start because of the female trying to be something she's not: aka playing some submissive fantasy then not actually being submissive at all. A fantastical act that she portrays then resists every step of the way after seeking out a dominate mate. Then she blames the dominant mate she sought out for being dominant. Friction requires two surfaces, and the one who was deceptive in the beginning is almost always the one in the wrong in the end. back to the music: not my prefered style/genre, but well done music and video.

My exact relationship It's not him making me feel good enough It's my family saying that I'm lazy And that I do nothing for him Funny thing is they don't know him like I do The king and queen I support him I'm there for him When he cries When he's sad When he's mad Through all the highs and lows Love needs no reason Yes I had a fainting spell overworking myself While pregnant with his child that sometimes I feel like he wants and other times not Is it wrong to abort

Ulli and Danny sound good together, they remind me of the duet between Heidi Parviainen and JP Leppaluoto in Dark Sarah song "Dance with the Dragon". The woman sounds like an angel/fairy (high and operatic) and the man sounds like a beast (low and gruff), a pretty nice contrast, i guess you can call it the "beauty and the beast" type of harmony. Nightwish did it too with Phantom of the Opera, but Marko's voice was as high-pitched as Tarja/Floor so it didn't really show the contrast.
@neuswoesje5903 жыл бұрын
Nightwish actually did a not well known song called beauty and the beast (there's also beauty of the beast) and it's one of my favourite Nightwish songs! It's one of I think two song where Tuomas himself sings

Honestly, Danny's voice here doesn't quite fit the normal 'beast' role for the Beauty and the Beast music style, it feels more like a Faustian Devil, smooth, controlled, and confident. The roughness is only for brief moments, and then it's back to the calculated tones. It reminds me of the way Roy Khan sang the Mephisto role in Kamelot's Descent of the Archangel, it has that same quality of inevitability.

"My favorite song and music video of the year. The fact that she only sings 'I suffocate because of you' when away from his presence reflects the sad reality of a victim in a power-imbalanced relationship, where she is unable to communicate her feelings without risking her safety. I love how this song emphasizes the various aspects of an unhealthy relationship through its lyrics. The double entendre in 'lie beside me' highlights the fact that the man and woman have different interpretations of this relationship. The isolation the woman experiences ultimately distorts her feelings about her captor, as he became her only source of emotional support, evident in her uncertainty in 'what if I'm wrong' and her false assurance, almost in a coping way, in 'we will be okay.' Most importantly, the song emphasizes the mutual voluntary blindness with 'close your eyes to this disaster,' which is the very nature of their reality.

That and Phantom of the Opera. There are SO many similarities in the personalities and power dynamics, and a fair chunk of the audience who shame the protagonist for not just going off with the guy and being happy in that relationship. That movie is really inspiring to me, though. How manipulative he is, while never raising his voice and seeming totally in control. “Be with me, do as I say, and I will be your slave.” I was like “errmmmm I dunno that that’s how that works...” as an 8yo. 😂 But so many grown women are all on board wanting to sign up! Stellar movie, to still get such strong emotions after so long. 😊

I just came across this yesterday and it really hit me hard. The "if you'd just obey me" line in particular reminds me of an ex who would constantly tell me I was smart but "just don’t think", and that he wouldn't get so angry with me if I just listened to him and accepted that he was right. "If you'd just-" is the catchphrase of every abusive relationship, I think, and you've captured that beautifully.

Reminds me of a character I wrote for Pathfinder. He grew up in this cult of a winter spirit who was quite jealous and possessive, even abusive towards her worshippers. Always forcing them to say that they loved her. That they worshipped her. Sometimes draining them and leaving behind a frozen statue. The character was the son of one such worshipper. She froze his father, and he ran away. The thing is... he gets his powers from her, and she whispers to him on the cold nights.
