Snowball (TM) - Japanese TV

Snowball (TM) and Irena appeared on a Japanese TV program along the lines of Believe it or Not.
The premise of the show was to see if Snowball would dance to any of the music that they brought with them. They had several CDs, but Snowball looked at us in a very disinterested way. He did manage to dance to one of the songs, but it was probably out of desparation to dance to something other than a children's song, classical music, and romantic ballads. Snowball is quite picky!
Irena Schulz is in collaboration with Dr. Ani Patel from the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego on cognitive music studies with Snowball as the subject of study. This program does touch on that research.
We completely enjoyed having this film crew out to our rescue and we sincerely thank them for including us in their show!

This show is my personal favorite! I still grabbed onto what was implied even though I couldn't understand Japanese. It was VERY enjoyable for us to film! This film crew played several songs for Snowball and he only danced to one of the songs that they brought. He didn't like the other songs and just looked at us all like "You must be kidding me." Irena - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.

The first bird that is shown once the film crew enters the rescue is Mookie, the moluccan cockatoo that is disabled in both legs. She's the one babbling and laughing on the Snowball/Ringo Starr video.

I do not understand Japanese either. But we do have many fans from Japan and they do understand what is being said. Snowball will be on his fifth Japanese TV show in a few weeks. Japan loves Snowball. Irena - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.

Extensive research has been done on parrots regarding their hearing capabilities. They cannot hear the low tones, nor can they hear the very high tones. We experimented with Snowball last year with playing the same song through various different sound systems including a very high quality Bose sound system. Thanks for noticing! I didn't realize that it was a tune by Kraftwerk...I ended up watching the video again to see what part you were talking about. It seemed to have the right rhythm to go along with Snowball's dancing. Snowball continues to appear on tv shows and news programs around the world. He's quite the celebrity! I think that many birds in the parrot family like to dance. I used to have a pair of Sun Conures who danced. You can see 4 of them sitting on the Japanese bird man at the aviary. The Sun Conures are the ones with the pretty yellow and orange colors. Mine used to dance to just about anything, but the female especially liked the whistling theme from the Disney animated feature, Robin Hood.

Oh my, you do not know about Beat Takeshi? "That guy at 3:32" is a legend of filmmaking. He started as a comedian, made some movies, and now hosts his own variety shows. I'd say he is one of the most famous people in Japan and well known to anyone studying film or anything Japanese. It must have been quite the honor to be on his show. Well done, Snowball!

The Japanese TV show that will be filming this Sunday is a different show than the one here. I was told that a celebrity was going to be coming along, but they didn't say who. I'm hoping it's Elvis. Irena - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
