I found that really interesting. I used to work with large industrial gearboxes among other types. I have to agree that the 6 paddles definitely seems to be insufficient, we could be wrong, but I bet that the clutch will need replacing sooner than what the customer thought. Good post 👍

Cool Videos. I own a 1956 major. It needed a new new clutch last year and the bloke who did it for me had angle iron "train tracks" bolted to his workshop floor and two trolley jacks ran inside them. He put a ratchet strap around the split tractor and as he tigtened the strap, the jacks came together running inside the angle iron tracks, and the tractor went back together perfectly. Thought that was a pretty good set up.

That was cool to see and it was interesting never seen a tractor split in half is good to know that you care about the work you do, but I am going to ask you please look after yourself don't be caring those caind of heavy stuff around because now you are young but in a few years you will regret it because I am now regret at 51 years old. Way you don't build an overhead crane to help you with the big loads. Kind regards from doun South, North London.

Nice simple way to split the box and lump. If only modern stuff was so simple.

Good old dad comes to save the day lol, they are always hard to marry up, sometimes you think they had never been together before, very little holding the both sides of the tractor together really, good job in the end though

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Haven't done a tractor clutch since about early 80's. Then I came out of farming and went into construction. When I still lived in UK (Kent). I used to go to all the farm type shows. I used to like the traction engine pulls. Where I live now in Australia. Nothing like that. We get heavy horse events. But haven't seen any machinery events in this area. They do have them but it would be a fly in fly out event. Bit pricey.

Thanks for the video, Guys fit those discs to Belarus tractors here in Canada for loader work as an "upgrade", they don't like skimming flywheels or putting new covers on unless they are total junk, so they chatter on the rough distorted surface, and they operate like crap. Then the next thing is it's like putting a big fly cutter in as that disc absolutly machines any surface clearance thats left right off in 1000 hours or less then they won't dissengage as the rivets hit bolt heads on the flywheel or PTO drive hub. It's just a whole bunch of fun trying to explain this to customers , then end up doing the job twice after they tried saving some $ L.O.L . I'm just going to convert my 6 power major from live to dead drive gearbox and do a dual clutch so I can antique pull without the offensive "odour de burned major clutch" perfume smell L.O.L , I was thinking the parts would have to come from the U.K or build it locally but luckily I found a US company that makes a 13" spacer plate and has an updated cover and spacers to fit as well. Hope somebody post a video of this one running on here, it'd be good to see it this season. Take care.

Fantastic work as always. That intermediate plate didn't look like it had been cooked too badly.. just rough to start with lol. No wonder they fitted so many over sized springs, would need them to bend the clutch plates to get them to bite 😂

Nice job. that Cargo engine doesn't quite have the clickety clack that an old Power Major would have done back in the 60's.
@snowballengineering
@snowballengineering Жыл бұрын
No not quite 😆. Very distinct sound to a major when the pump coupling gets a bit of wear.
@super6954
@super6954 Жыл бұрын
If that cargo engines going clickety clack owning it's just got expensive,because it's probably tossed it's cookies all over the pulling track L.O.L. Here in Canada it's a job to find any Major that makes the traditional pump coupling noise, 99% of the ones I see or own have been updated to the silent lovejoy type rubber coupling the last of the super Majors used. I actually like them like that, you can hear what a nice running engine they actually are with the silent coupling if they aren't totally worn out junk.

Clutch info. Measure from the head of the rivet to the friction surface. Times 4 since you have 4 friction faces. That should be the distance between the cover foot and the flywheel face without the bolts pulling the cover down. There are specs in the service manual for the finger height when the discs and cover are bolted down to adjust the fulcrum screws. I personally don't think there is enough clamping force in the current adjustment to prevent the clutch from slipping.
@snowballengineering
@snowballengineering Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I think the clamping force will be fine. There was a good amount of distance between the cover and the stands before I started tightening the bolts down. The clutch feels good underfoot and engages and disengages properly so I'm happy with the finger height.

Won't it weaken the clutch plate center hubs spline shaft engagement by removing that much material? I know it is two disc but that is a LOT of stress in a pull.
@snowballengineering
@snowballengineering Жыл бұрын
It never seems to be an issue, the shafts always twist before anything happens to the splines. And it’s the only way to fit them in.

Nice job, but make yourself that splitting rail and trucks - you'll kick yourself for messing about so long. I was told the most important tool when splitting a tractor is the workshop broom!!! ................... Do you use the starter motor trick when they ''won't'' go together? ....come to think of it, the KZbin safety police would ahve a fit with their leg up
