You're an ingenious fellow, my man. Throughly enjoy all your videos because you've taught me alot over the past 3 or 4 years. I wanted to learn how to repair my own ( and neighbors) equipment if I have an issue with something. Youve helped make that possible. Thanks for sharing your know how with us.

Where are the washers that go on each side if the fork?
@williamnickoley53011 ай бұрын
Outstanding video, with excellent views of what you are working on and going beyond the basic repair to show the use of additional thrust washers to take up any play from wear, and the use of various types of lubricants to prevent the same problems from occurring again. Your comments on the quality of the parts involved are also pertinent.

Tremendous video. I'm having what I would say is the opposite problem with my shifting. Mine binds up around 3rd gear. I can get 3-6, but can't get 1 or 2 or either reverse gear because the trunion is binding in the shift forks. You have shed light on new possible causes. I initially suspected a rusty/corroded axle that the friction wheel slides on, but that is definitely not the case. Sounds like I need to be looking at bushings! Thanks for the high quality, very informative video and I pray that what I learned here will help me fix my machine.

Thanks, I was having a similar problem with a loose shifter. You pointed me in the direction of some ways to diagnose it and indeed I have exactly the same problem of a worn bushing on the right side. It a super old blower with cracked frame and other wear issues, so I'm just going to replace it. Glad to know the problem before it leaves me stuck behind 2 feet of snow.

I got to hand it to you. You and I thought the same thing. Ariens should have put a bearing on the other side as well. Cheap. Plus their machines are expensive as well. I agreed with you additional diagnosis. I as your customer would have said replace that axle as well. Also I would have said get rid of that cheap plastic gear as well... Sometimes you just got to re-engineer... How about a grease fitting installed in the copper bushing... Once or twice as season apply some quality synthetic/teflon low temp grease from Tuff-Oil on it. Great video Sir !!!

I would’ve liked if you would’ve showed how to put the fork assembly with the bearing assembly together with the washers because that’s the issue I’m having how do you get them into each other
@EliminatorPerformance3 жыл бұрын
You can bend them up with pliers, and then bend them back down if you're having trouble fitting the friction wheel into the fork. Just make sure you use the washers if it came with them!

Great video. Thank you for the detailed how-to. I am surprised though how poorly they are built. Ariens are often touted to be one of the better brands but watching this they apparently cut costs the same way as most other brands out there.

Wasn't there suppose to be two washers on the shifting fork one above and one below just asking
@EliminatorPerformance4 жыл бұрын
Yes but they weren't there as delivered, so I ended up just bending the fork arms slightly and it worked perfectly without the washers. Thanks for watching!
@zeuswinston50043 жыл бұрын
Without the washers the shifter will eventually bind with fork. There is a reason they are there. They keep the ear nubs from cutting grooves in the fork slots and keep the small fork shaft end from moving out of its bushing I just repaired a 932100 824 that was mcgyvered without washers like your repair. Btw Also you could have updated that worn right bushing with the same bearing assembly as on the left side. The hole in frame is the same. Just new bearing and bearing mount plate required. Bushing was the cost efficient way and it will work

Very good video, thanks for that. You're good getting parts fast. Show us how you grease the inside of those bearings. I want to do that to the new bearing of my mower deck and the clothes washer tub new bearings. What type of grease is recommended for the Snow Blower Shaft, just low temperature stuff? I was thinking marine grease, buy don't know what's best. On that friction plate, I seen guys machine them down some, smooth like new.

I use low temp, as it's very soft and designed for low temps. Marine grease repels water well, but not sure about temps. Thanks for watching!

Man...trying to figure out the bushing thing. diagram shows flanged bushing on chain side, but looks like I lost a regular bushing on chain side-didn't notice...I have the other side....Both side plates are the same so guessing both regular bushings
@eagleviewhd3 жыл бұрын
Seems that this bushing could be rotated 180 degrees once and a while and would help it wear more evenly. I just bought an older Craftsman 5/22 and it looks like the bushings are just fit into the frame from the outside. Looks like they go into a hex shaped hole in the frame and could be rotated every time the wheels are removed and the axle shaft is lubed.

Ariens cares about quality. They are forced by customers to cost cut and produce machines with lower price as Chinese blowers are invading the big box stores. Either compete or lose that market . Low end market is high volume Most consumers don't see value or care about 1000 snowblower. Sno tek is ariens low end. That and many big box employees don't know how to sell the higher $ machines

Hi, after watching some other videos, just a comment, shouldn't the "Shifting Fork" have 2 washers, one both the top and bottom before its put into place. Also regarding the plastic gear .. do you think someone else was in there before you yrs ago and cheap-ed out with the plastic gear.. Otherwise nice video

It's very normal with all that play That you are referring to. A lot of these snow blowers have play like that they must be a reason for it..

ENGINE OIL IS EXACTLY WHAT THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS YOU PUT ON THAT SHAFT!! You looking any manual or a Toro manual. They specifically say once a year put a light coat of engine oil with your finger not too much so it gets on the friction disc.. That's what the manufacturer recommends they never say to use Greece. Maybe because they think it's going to come off and hit the friction wheel. And I'm assuming the engine oil they're talking about is the same engine oil they use in the machine 5/30 I never heard of anybody having any issues putting the recommended stuff on the products..

why do i have to use gasoline straight in the hole where the sparkplug sit when the motor is cold? i have put in a new carburator, primerline is changed , new gosoline, and i have the choke on and speed throttle on full, it is frustrating to screw out the spark plug every time i start the snowblower, can it be a stuck intake valve ,it is a flat head motor ,can i remove the sparkplug and stick a screwdriver on both valves and rotate them and spray ligth oil so the valve will loose up and then set in the sparkplug, i found a video showing this and it was solving my problem in cold start kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6rcqmCAepyWhsk

May I suggest some solvent? Best thing is pull the offending valve and clean the stem and maybe the valve guide too, so it does not keep happening. Also, consider pulling the rope so the valves are closed(on compression) when you shut it down or store it.

Great job of taking care of all the worn axles with the washers. That Hex shaft is a pain in the but! Right side of hex shaft.. was not set far enough into the bearing on the right. this is why you had so much slop on the hex shaft. Look at how much of the hex shaft is sticking out of the bearing on the left. Your flanges may have been worn beyond use. Or the hex shaft may have been worn on the ends. This things are nuts. I am going through the samething on a new one...and the design is just as bad!
