The snowboarding scene may still be part of rebirth, just not available in the Gold Saucer. In the OG, the snowboarding and submarine mini games were disabled until you performed them in the field. Snowboarding was unlocked after the Crater and the submarine was unlocked after the Huge Materia quest. So the director saying snowboarding won't be available at the Gold Saucer until game 3 would make sense even if we get to the snow scenes.

It’s possible at some point near the end of the game you’ll be locked out of the world too. I think Max’s idea of ending at northern crater just makes the most narrative sense.

Agreed. That was my first Idea as well. I think there will be a Point of no Return and this could very well be the Snowboard Minigame. After doing that Task it would make very little Sense for the Group to be able to get back up so to get back to Gold Sourcer seems unrealistic. Could be wrong of course because it also seems strange to not be able to get back but… i dont think its a totally stupid Suggestion.

to add to that, It would be like what the bike minigame is to Rebirth what it was to Remake. in Remake, it only served the purpose it needed to for the narrative, sure it was replayable and could be skipped after the fact and all that, but for the degree that they are apparently doing it for Rebirth, there's a lot more work going into it to "gamify" it. We could still get the snowboarding section, but it's just that, a snowboarding section. No additional bells or whistles like what's been shown off in all the separate minigames, which saves a bit of effort on their part.

i still believe the game will follow the same story bits as the original, so for me yes it will end with the death of aerith, the major difference is that after she dies she will wake up and zack will see her, connecting his intergrade scene but expanded to show her, leading us to believe she is alive in his world. In part 3 we start at the capital, after some time after her death and decide to keep pursuing sephirot, its a good place to reintroduce the game mechanics, and right after wen we get to the northern town (forgot the name) get an explanation of aeriths origins and kidnapping by shinra

Basically part 3 will start off with the party climbing the Northern Crater for the tutorial and then immediately face Sephiroth an lose access to Cloud and Tifa for like a 3rd of the game. Granted Cid and Vincent will be there but since they aren't playable in Rebirth (and they supposedly join the party in the same places) their has to be a damn good explanation that they're following the party in the first place that's... assuming everything follows the same path

It is fascinating to see that people aren't even entertaining the idea that "that scene" might also lead up to what happens in the crater but still being at the forgotten capital, if they just compress things a little. The reunion might happen there, the weapons might unleash because of events there, Cloud could teleport, rid the lifestream or whispers/whatever over to Sephiroth in the final cutscene and deliver the black materia, if that is even going to be a thing. They can easily just have Cloud becoming depressed and lost there.

I never expected them to break the games off at that point... if it was going to be a trilogy. firstly because one of the crucial aspects to FF7 original IS Clouds identity crisis - so if we're going to have the instigation (Flashback scene in Kalm) there has to be at least SOME resolution to it. Which leads to north crater and Clouds fall being a great endpoint to the second game, and the Clouds identity crisis being resolved within one game and the truth resolved in the third game. one of the crucial aspects of HOW Cloud falls to darkness is the hopelessness in grief. so if they are moving it up to the city of ancients instead, they are going to change that dramatically. instead of having the whole journey over the glacier to sit with the grief it's going to be instant OR not even factor in to his fall - if he falls to darkness in City of ancients instead.... It's basically switching up important events and their chronology - but will that still be congruent and will cause and effect be changed?? will Clouds journey be completely different since motivations and events not hitting Cloud in the right order? Will Tifa be bothering Cloud about it ALL the time?`will Nibelheim be where Cloud becomes apathetic to even trying to be Zack anymore? They aren't instilling much confidence that they are going to pull this off..... It's going to be such a weird intro to have all the characters in grief of either losing Aerith or Cloud as you start the third game.... unless they cut out north crater entirely and sephiroth shows all of them "the truth" after he's failed to kill Aerith... but then again, how do you pick up after that? they'd have to get both the use of the black materia to summon meteor - for shinra to be there at ancient capitol, so they can take the party into custody - AND keep Aerith alive, since doing ALL of that RIGHT after her death would just be too much going on.... OR if Cloud disappears before her death, it won't be the same, Cloud won't remark on his feelings of losing her.... it's just a shitshow... they CAN absolutely pull it off but it's like, very unlikely.....

My thoughts on this: I think Max’s theory on this game ending in the northern crater still holds strong. One of the trailers shows (I think) Bugenhagen telling Tifa that the huge, almost manatee looking creature swimming around is a Weapon. I’m not sure what will happen at the Forgotten Capital *the first time,* but I’m positive we’ll get to the Northern crater where shit really hits the fan, where a Weapon opens it’s eye behind the ice to terrify everyone with the sheer magnitude of it’s size compared to the one they saw swimming around, and where the party will be split up. I also think a final battle against Cloud cut across that environment falling apart as the Weapons start to emerge from the crater-that would be incredible AND show off just how enormous they are (and since they’re some of my favorite bosses in the series, I’d love to see maybe a couple other surprises emerge. Amethyst? Topaz? Bring ‘em on). I think we’ll be back at the Forgotten Capital a second time with Cid, Vincent, Yuffie, Red XIII, Cait Sith, and maybe a couple others, discussing the state of the world and these new dire circumstances with Bugenhagen, trying to strategize a plan before we cut to the credits.

If you guys really pay attention to the main menu for Rebirth. The floor in the main menu looks EXACTLY like the floor in the bottom of the Northern Crater. So I’m betting that they’re either lying about it ending at the Forgotten Capital. Or, when “that moment” happens we don’t simply fight Jenova in the same spot…..maybe we’ll get an illusion just like we did when we fought Jenova in Remake. And maybe Jenova will transport us to the Northern Crater for that fight.

I'm hoping they fake us out and the game really does end at the Crater instead of Forgotten City but I'm honestly not surprised at all that it ends there, I mean that's already A LOT of the game that we're playing through. The other copium I'm huffing is that somehow the crater event still happens but the order is just mixed or the somehow the whole Zack thing comes into play and both events occur at the same time. There's a lot they can do to compress the sequence of events.

As to fan theories, I enjoy theory crafters. It’s cause there aren’t a lot of people in my real life circle of friends who geek out about this stuff as much as me, so it’s nice to indulge in a community of people who love it. Yeah…it means the game ends at the ancient city (which has been confirmed) which is before the snowboarding game appears. Not rocket science….I doubt the submarine game isn’t there either.

It also means whatever happens at the Ancient City is going to be VERY different from the OG if that's where they're deciding to end it. There are tons of hints about "The Reunion" in the trailers and plot points revolving around Seph driving a wedge between Cloud and Tifa and gaslighting them about their memories. There's talk about merging worlds at the Reunion etc. So whatever is happening towards the Climax of this game and towards the Ancient City is definitely going to throw a lot of people off. It's possible they may be mixing OG events and plot points together in a single location. That's why everyone is like, wait.....why are they ending there? I'm not sure if people are getting what this means in terms of the story changing.

Max has brought up Alexander a few times as a clue to how far the story may go, but summons had all new locations in Remake and they will in Rebirth too. You got Odin in the safe in Nibelheim before, but he attacks the Midgar Zolem in the recent footage.

I’m guessing that the main reason why they decided to not starting Part 3 with the Junon attack (if any of this is even confirmed) is because they need to start each game with the protagonist. Think about casual players that have never played FF7 and will start directly from Part 3. They need a little bit of context and learn the basics of gameplay with a tutorial that involves Cloud. I know it sucks, but it makes sense.

Yeah Max's last statement you really feel like the ending of Rebirth is going to be the part II trilogy "Empire Strikes Back" ending when our heroes are at their lowest ebb. Having it when XXXX and XXXX are about to be XXXXXX at XXXXX would have been awesome.

Its still very possible. We only know the Minigame wont be at Gold Saucer in this Part because of the Story. That does add up with OG though. When you first get to the Gold Saucer there are not all Mini Games available. For me... it would not make Sense to get to the End, do the Minigame and then just go back to Gold Saucer where you suddenly play Games again. No. If you want to make the Game believable this Minigame will be the EXACT Point of no Return and if you move forward you wont be able to get back. So it still adds up imo. But i cant of course say for sure. Just saying... there is a good Chance nothing changed.

Wording is funny in the mini game part. I’m not sure if it’s translation or phrasing, but I don’t think it explicitly says snowboarding isn’t in the game so much as it isn’t a mini game available at the Gold Saucer. Hard to say because the context is very focused on answering a question about mini games AT the Saucer.

I find the phrasing that going back to the original FF7 is somehow difficult to be odd. It's a pretty short 30-50h experience, it was long for its time but it isn't that long today, can beat the entire game and the 3 superbosses in under the time it takes you to finish FF7R. Unless they mean the visuals or the turn based combat but I will never understand not being able to appreciate an aged stylized look, and turn based is timeless.

My only issue is that sepiroth is suppose to be WAY stronger then cloud. In the originial cloud says that sepiroths strength is unbelieveable. Sepiroth demonstrates his seperation in strength by killing a dragon with power levels in the thousands while cloud is still in hundreds or below

From what I've heard people that played the demo say it's more about his abilities and combat style this time around. He may not have 10x more health than Cloud this time but instead has abilities and magic that can one shot multiple enemies at once and can instantly teleport at will.

I think it’s okay this way tho bc I’m thinking of it as Zack’s stats as a 1st class soldier. It’s made more clear in this demo that it’s Zack we’re seeing in the flashback so it makes sense that he would be able to somewhat keep up with sephiroth and not die every battle like Cloud did in the og.

The more I’m reading these articles and interviews, the more I’m noticing that they are REALLY pushing Zack on us. To the point where it almost feels like a dual protagonist type deal. yes and specially for end of Rebirth and so..gameplay wise it will make sense for one reaosns i can see...the other i was thinking is for Tifa's for Cloud 'mind control by Seohiroth if the worst..was going to happen... I think a good way to deal with forgetten capital being the ending would be to make the events of northern crater happen at the forgetten capital instead. still have part 3 start in junon. And save the snowfield areas for part three. Just one trip to northern crater instead of 2 like og.
