Husky Puppy Trying To Walk Down Stairs

This is Dakota my gorgeous husky puppy when she was only a couple of weeks old trying to walk down the stairs.
1 minute 40 is hilarious when I tell her "stop being a baby" and she jumps back in protest as if to say "don't dare call me a baby".
Remember whether with your husky or any other dog, it's essential that you're patient and take training slowly. Don't be tempted to pull your dog down the stairs as this will likely lead to fear.

My dog did the same thing. At times, he would go down the stairs or jump on the couch just fine, but at other times, he would act all pitiful and pretend he was stuck. It was all a ploy to get us to pick him up onto the couch or carry him down the stairs. Worst and funniest part was when he would run back up stairs or jump off the couch and then cry for us to help him again.

next time you teach a puppy how to get downstairs make sure he's over 6 months old (when they learn they run up and down following you. their bones are still developing and they could easily end up having curved legs because of the excess of exercise), then bring the treat sideways towards the wall instead of straight down. dogs always walk near the wall when climbing stairs. my 2 dogs literally hug the wall leaving a nasty wet line on it whey it rains. they are not scared of heights, they fear the void.

But any growing animal needs to get to be active in order to grow strong muscles and develop good body control. Something that'll do them good later. If you went skiing for the first time, would you rather: A) immediately take a chairlift up so you could stare out over the abyss, knowing if you fall, you'll be going head over heels for awhile before stopping, or B) walk up the last few feet of that same run, put your skis on, then slide down, knowing that you'll stop in a few feet without even trying. Maybe next time, start your puppy on the floor next to the stairs and leave a trail of treats away from them. Then, put her on the bottom step, and put a treat on the floor within reach. Place the treat further out, and she'll probably just plop off the step, knowing that the floor is a safe place, and that she won't go tumbling down a dozen steps.

Ok, I have had a shih tzu for 8 years and luckily she never had issues with steps, I will say this, if the dog whines do NOT give her a treat on the step below, she already knows how to get treats out of you...wait her out, even walk away and leave the treat on the third step, but do not give in. Dogs/cats can be just as manipulative as kids, believe me I know. Good luck.
