These were somewhat popular back when I was in the fixie scene, about the 2010s or so. Really do like them.

Another stunner, well done! I´ve always prioritized strength and functionality over looks so I´ve steered clear of any unusual spoke patterns but was always intrigued how to build these. Thanks for showing and explaining how it is done.

Thankyou! Glad you got something out of it. I’m in a similar boat regarding the strength so I definitely understand👍

I think twisted spokes are at least as strong or more so.

Been wanting to do this pattern on my front wheel for a long time. nice build, nice bike, nice bideo

You can always reduce the bend at the spoke nipple by pushing the twist down towards the hub before tensioning the wheel. Cool looking wheels.
@event42169 ай бұрын
I've thought of snowflake lacing as unnecessary complexity and weak point - but in your execution it seems like an interesting direction to go when everything else has been done. Please later update on how tension has been holding and if subsequent tensioning has been needed.

I used to ride my wheels long distance and tried twisted spokes. I didn't keep records so can't say how it worked. I think you did it right!

I don't know if they will be more or less rigid. But they are very nice. I seem to remember that this design was used on some MTB brands (Kastle?) in the mid 90s.

you are quite good. can you think of a design like this that no one has done before?

I think if you alternately lace them with a black spoke the color and design of the snow flake will really pop. Or maybe it just looks different from the video versus seeing it in person.
@wtfiswiththosehandles8 ай бұрын
When looking at thumbnail I thought you were using those noodly kevlar spokes. And, if you can do those shapes with steel spokes, I wonder what kind of weird lacing you can achieve when actually using kevlar spokes?

saw this video a while ago and i’m deciding to do this with my wabi wheel😹

I wonder how that would look if you cross one pair and skip the other. Maybe that way it's stronger and you can also play with how the crossed pairs coordinate with the other side

i'm still a newbie to fixed gears but i'm thinking about building my own.. i know someone who sells a koga miyata from the 90s with a red steel frame and it hasn't been used much. do you think it's worth go get it and build something new?

@josephwaggener93079 ай бұрын
Sorry, but i hate this. Guess I'm just too traditional. I have built wheels for long distance touring and don't play around with the strength and endurance.
@waveywheelies9 ай бұрын
Totally understand. It’s a bit of an odd one for sure, I’ve always built wheels for the best strength, so this one did feel weird.. but was fun to experiment with and feels surprisingly solid, I guess time will tell though
@pierrex32269 ай бұрын
that makes no sense and is obviously counter productive, but it's interesting to see the spokes are over engineered enough to handle that kind of abuse and still perform. Gatorskin are awful tyres btw, the deaden any bike.
@mircozelle8 ай бұрын
don't do this. it makes for soft wheels and reduces component lifetime
