I have been following your adventures and have subscribed. Love your commentary, in addition to the excellent video and audio. I live in Ridgway and hike extensively the trails around Ouray. You might enjoy Blaine's Basin hike, which can be a loop (can hike up Blue Lakes, over/around Sneffels, and descend back down through Blaine's Basin). Be safe, and best to you.

I always wondered how tough Snowmass Mtn. was and appears to be tougher than what I would do. What degree angle would you guess your decent route down that trough? Thanks again!
@KarlDeckerPresents9 ай бұрын
Big thanks for all your comments. It is very cool to know you truly, get it, as far as what goes into doing these kinds of videos, especially in technical terrain. I'd guess the average angle was only about 25-30 degrees in the trough but there was that short step at the end that was a much steeper, a short class 3 section. . .hope that helps. That route does seem to be so much shorter and just a nice as the standard route. If you are really good picking your way up through loose talus that trough is definitely doable. That party I saw going up it was moving FAST..

@@KarlDeckerPresents No problem. Really been enjoying your many videos. Not only are you a great climber but you take notice of your surroundings intuitively and this also shows in what you choose to incorporate into the final videos. A good chunk of your attending to what obstacles and pitches with also a good amount of the beautiful scenery. Best of both worlds. Thanks for providing estimated trough angle. Sounds doable for an accent but much more alluring for a ski the scree decent.

A MAZING views ...saftey first though ..always wear a helmet ..I always wanted to do the traverse between Snowmass and Capitol but thats another story
@KarlDeckerPresents2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment! I’m not sure safety first and the ridge between Snowmass and Capitol should be in the same post, lol. I’m terrible about helmets, at least I put the motorcycle helmet on. Riding was definitely the most dangerous for me. I did totally steer clear of the fall line Anytime I knew someone was above me.

breath-taking! Awesome work as usual Karl. Thanks for sharing! What are your thoughts about trying that route over Memorial Day weekend (i.e., much snow...I'm from the east coast and get out to CO once maybe twice a year)
@KarlDeckerPresents2 жыл бұрын
Thanks appreciate the kind words!! Early May can be very unpredictable up there above timberline, so I would be careful in my planning...it would not be on my radar personally.

You could have used that motorcycle instead of the bicycle when doing the Little Bear- Blanca Traverse. Been up that ridiculous road several times when doing Blanca and Ellingwood and have never seen anyone try to tackle that road on a bike. 🙂
@KarlDeckerPresents2 жыл бұрын
I think the E-bike was actually most manageable since I could pick it up and carried over those monstrous rock steps and basketball size boulders that comprise the upper road, lol. I’m not sure I have the skills or the Rockcrawler ability on my KLX 300, that road is a Man-eater. I was thinking I could when I got the dirt bike but after doing other roads like the One that spanked me near the summit of Antero I know it wouldn’t have a chance.

@@KarlDeckerPresents The video of that traverse was the best I've seen and was an incredible accomplishment, have day hiked up Blanca three times and done Ellingwood once but too chicken to try Little Bear.

Loading and unloading the motorbike sounds like bit of work. Would using your mountain bike be easier?
@KarlDeckerPresents2 жыл бұрын
Hey brother! Not with having to transport camping gear in addition to my usual load of gear. The KLX 300 isn't that heavy, I was just happy to have some nice folks offer to help!

do you think a awd subaru can make it to the trailhead
@KarlDeckerPresents Жыл бұрын
It would be cutting it close, I did see a jeep, compass, stuck, long, wheelbase vehicles will high center or drag the back bumper on those big humps. . A couple sections of grapefruit rocks, too, should be able to clear those though, but very rough.

Would you recommend just going back down the S Ridge to avoid the loose rock on the West Slopes?
@KarlDeckerPresents Жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't mind loose talus too much, would definitely be terrible going up though. You'll know what you want when you summit, both ways are doable. A Confident climber would be fine going down the S and while the loose talus is a PITA it is by far not the worst I've seen, several places to skirt the gully, stay out of the line of fire, AND stay on somewhat more solid rock. . .
@KarlDeckerPresents Жыл бұрын
It's a possibility, yes, but I can't make a specific recommendation for you.

Thanks. I have done detailed research and I have to be honest loose class 5 conditions just don't get it for me, tho I understand where you're coming from. Not happening. My best, Karl 👍
