Snowshoeing to the Silvrettasee | Bielerhöhe | An amazing Alpine World over 2,000m above sea level

The imposing Silvretta mountains really impressed me on my snowshoe hike. On this snowshoe hike, you will experience the Silvrettasee at the foot of the 3000m mountain peaks up close. I took the Vermuntbahn up in Partenen in the Montafon early in the morning. After an impressive and adventurous ride in the tunnel taxi, my adventurous snowshoe hike begins. I got off at switch back 29 along with some other snowshoe hikers. As I found out, this is where the snowshoe hike begins. The path leads gently uphill to the Silvrettasee at over 2,000 meters above sea level.
The path is not signposted, but there are clear tracks in the snow that you follow. This snowshoe hike can also be done if there is a risk of avalanches. The only thing a bit uncomfortable at the beginning of the trail is that you walk in the shade for a few minutes. In my case, it can get very, very cold. If you catch such a sunny day as I did, then take your sunglasses with you! Otherwise, it will be really difficult because the snowy world is so glistening bright.

That tunnel was a surprice on my first visit at Montafon.. it was Summer and I was with my son.. we took that lift up and then walked through whole tunnel section. It was, and still is, the only time had that opportunity! I think they closed first the lift section and then also tunnel from public use.. not sure, but it was an experience anyway! You did walk a ”fox trail” (a Finnish proberb) to get into to the Sun at Silvretta! 😉

I don't think you are allowed to walk through the tunnel now. It's closed in summer and only open in winter for the tunnel taxi. The tunnel is really spectacular! The drivers manage very well driving through the tunnel. Yeah, I finally got into the sun. What a relief!
