You didn't compare this to a Blast or Venom. On the surface it appears that Ski Doo has them beat on price, but I believe the comparison would be closer than many people realize (seems like Venom -vs- Neo+ is a more fair comparison). I think you're right about what these are aimed at. I've been concerned for a long time that snowmobile manufacturers were focusing solely on existing and experienced riders, a market that was shrinking. The Neo, Venom and Blast create a new segment where growth is likely to come from, and I hope it continues.

Out of all the “entry level” attempts from the manufacturers including the blast, evo and neo I have to say Ski-doo did it the best. It’s not shrunk. It’s not fan cooled. Fan cooled is far better for new riders that putt along at slow speed. Liquid sleds overheat when going slow in low or frozen snow conditions.

@@thatalaskaguy with these smaller motors I don’t think that is much of a issue. Sure it’s gonna be warmer but my grandpa had a fan cooled 440 and fan stopped spinning and he didn’t know and it started on fire. Liquid is much more reliable in my opinion
@thatalaskaguy2 жыл бұрын
@@adamj3579 I suspect your grandpa had a fan motor that used a belt driven fan. If the belt breaks the fan quits turning and you lose the cooling system. The Polaris Fuji built fan motors have a fan that is directly driven off the crank, it always spins while the engine is running, nothing to fail. Liquid cooled engines can never be as reliable because they have more moving parts, rely on water tight systems to prevent the coolant from leaking out and stupidly, have to cool by loose snow being thrown against a tunnel mounted heat exchanger. That system simply doesn’t work at low speed on low, hard packed snow conditions, on hard frozen snow or on bare ice. A fan cooled motor will happily motor along in those conditions unaffected.

This is a market segment that badly needs to be addressed. 50hp and 50mph is enough for most trail riding in the woods. You;re not running on lakes. You've got trees and family members to be considered. Excellent as a second sled. Don't get me wrong - I like the Blizzard models - but this sled reminds me of the old Olympiques of the 1970s. The one thing that Ski-Doo needs to offer is a recoil start option as a backup. All the other brands do this. Coiling a rope around a clutch primary isn't going to do it. Otherwise, offer a jump starter as an accessory option with clear instructions on how to use it, preferably a plug in on the dash if necessary. I am interested in hearing the rationale for no recoil start on these sleds.
@matthewcarlson27522 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the main reason is weight and cost.
@RobRodriguezAxisCAD2 жыл бұрын
You can add a recoil for $129. I agree it should be standard. BRP has become VERY well versed in nickel and diming their customers to death with things that should be standard.
@toddcoon67342 жыл бұрын
@@RobRodriguezAxisCAD I would gladly pay the $129 to have the recoil installed. I'd want a confirmation from the dealer first before buying the sled. I have been unable to find a recoil starter currently listed as an accessory install, but maybe it is out there. I know they were offered as an option a few years ago.
@RobRodriguezAxisCAD2 жыл бұрын
@@toddcoon6734 I purchased an MXZ600 Sport last season. The dealer installed the recoil accessory. It's just an assembly that contains the recoil, cord and cover(very simple). It was $129 installed. To access the recoil you have to open the right side side panel, there is no cut out in the plastic panel for it. Since the MXZ 600 Sport is a gen4 sled with the detuned 600, same as the NEO+ I assume the recoil can be added to it as well. I ordered a NEO+ and will be adding studs (really wish it was offered with a pre-studded track), recoil, heated shield plug (again should be standard), mid windshield (should be standard), carbides (should be standard) and maybe a swaybar. If the swaybar accessory fits on the NEO sleds (not sure the a-arms have the mount)?

Great idea on ski doo's part. I still don't get the 600 cc 2 stroke though. Why not put 600 ACE motors in them and eliminate a motor from their lineup. Could be de-tuned if they wanted. This is basically what they did with the spark. Given the volume they are building of the ace motors (in multiple vehicle platforms) you wouldn't think it would cost much more to build one of them vs having a separate engine. Great review though. Very well put together.
@thegodfreyspecial4232 жыл бұрын
That 600 EFI engine easily costs a fraction to produce compared to the 600 ACE and they are doing what they have done with the spark - this engine now has 3 variations of power. Still not clear if the version in this sled can be turned up to full-jam 85hp or not in the same way the Spark 900 ACE can be turned up with a simple flash. There is huge economy in these two strokes and they are light.

The missing center shock in this sled is a swing and a miss. But, this is what the Blast should have been priced at. It Cat had any brains they’d install a 570 fan or the Yamaha 540 fan in the Blast to significantly lower the price. Unfortunately Cat is determined to go out of business so they won’t do anything to lower the price of the Blast. Does this 600 uses the same junk show, isoflex greased crank bearings that the old series 3 600 had? I’ll take a Fuji made 550 fan any day over that craptacular engine design. Also, why are you bagging on fan cooled sleds? They don’t overheat in low snow, hard frozen snow conditions like liquid cooled sleds do. Most new riders and kinds don’t ride super fast on trails or around the yard to throw enough snow onto the heat exchanger. They also don’t know enough to realize when the sled is getting hot. Unless a liquid cooled sled comes with a radiator and fan it will overheat in the conditions I described.
@notapplicable66882 жыл бұрын
isoflex wasn't the greatest idea but the only issue with it is lack of maintenance on the owner end. if rebuilding a series 3 you can always have the cases drilled out and new lines ran so they are oiled. or just grease your bearings every few years.
