Finally. A full size fun sled that will get you out and about on the trails. And at a decent price. My wife just likes to ride trails for the scenery and to go on trips. She is very intimidated by my 900T Renegade, and it's fairly heavy for her to handle properly. She is going to love this sled.

Nice video Mark. I couldn’t agree more this should be a good selling machine. I’m a Polaris guy but the evo has to be modified to get it to sit up more and increase the power as well as you said fan cooled. My girlfriend is a beginner and has ridden the 125hp sleds but she doesn’t want or need it. And as you said the price point is spot on for someone who wants to go out every now and again and doesn’t desire big speed or power. Thanks for the review

I’ve had sleds for me and my wife for a long time, it’s always been a lot to swallow forking over the cash for modern 800 class machines and now that I have a child I’ve been starting to pay attention to entry level and youth sled prices, I’m glad to see ski doo stepping up to the plate with something like this, it seems like a great sled for kids transitioning to bigger machines and the retail customer hat just wants a sled without having to take a mortgage out to buy one.

You didn't compare this to a Blast or Venom. On the surface it appears that Ski Doo has them beat on price, but I believe the comparison would be closer than many people realize (seems like Venom -vs- Neo+ is a more fair comparison). I think you're right about what these are aimed at. I've been concerned for a long time that snowmobile manufacturers were focusing solely on existing and experienced riders, a market that was shrinking. The Neo, Venom and Blast create a new segment where growth is likely to come from, and I hope it continues.

Glad to see they have learned from the spark. As much as high-end model are amazing they need more focus on value. A good 120hp sled with the basics you need for 12k. This is a great start, 10k should be a pretty sweet point for them
@pajamatime5750
@pajamatime5750 2 жыл бұрын
Out of all the “entry level” attempts from the manufacturers including the blast, evo and neo I have to say Ski-doo did it the best. It’s not shrunk. It’s not fan cooled. Its not stripped down with no tech. It’s budget minded but still provides the buyer with everything you need to have fun on the trails! I’m a Polaris guy but have to give it to Ski-doo here - Great work on this line of sleds! Also, once again, a great walk around review by one of the legends of the snowmobiling industry! Have a good weekend gents!

Fan cooled is far better for new riders that putt along at slow speed. Liquid sleds overheat when going slow in low or frozen snow conditions.
@adamj3579
@adamj3579 2 жыл бұрын
@@thatalaskaguy with these smaller motors I don’t think that is much of a issue. Sure it’s gonna be warmer but my grandpa had a fan cooled 440 and fan stopped spinning and he didn’t know and it started on fire. Liquid is much more reliable in my opinion
@thatalaskaguy
@thatalaskaguy 2 жыл бұрын
@@adamj3579 I suspect your grandpa had a fan motor that used a belt driven fan. If the belt breaks the fan quits turning and you lose the cooling system. The Polaris Fuji built fan motors have a fan that is directly driven off the crank, it always spins while the engine is running, nothing to fail. Liquid cooled engines can never be as reliable because they have more moving parts, rely on water tight systems to prevent the coolant from leaking out and stupidly, have to cool by loose snow being thrown against a tunnel mounted heat exchanger. That system simply doesn’t work at low speed on low, hard packed snow conditions, on hard frozen snow or on bare ice. A fan cooled motor will happily motor along in those conditions unaffected.

@@adamj3579 just last week my buddy on his Assault couldn’t ride down the hard packed frozen trail without running super hot even with scratchers. Pretty useless snowmachine when it can only be ridden in certain types of snow conditions. I’ve owned and still own many different types of sleds both liquid and fan cooled and for slow speed, worry free riding nothing beats a fan sled. All this can be alleviated if OEM’s would used radiators with a fan like everything else in the world but they don’t.

This is a market segment that badly needs to be addressed. 50hp and 50mph is enough for most trail riding in the woods. You;re not running on lakes. You've got trees and family members to be considered. Excellent as a second sled. Don't get me wrong - I like the Blizzard models - but this sled reminds me of the old Olympiques of the 1970s. The one thing that Ski-Doo needs to offer is a recoil start option as a backup. All the other brands do this. Coiling a rope around a clutch primary isn't going to do it. Otherwise, offer a jump starter as an accessory option with clear instructions on how to use it, preferably a plug in on the dash if necessary. I am interested in hearing the rationale for no recoil start on these sleds.

@toddcoon6734
@toddcoon6734 2 жыл бұрын
@@RobRodriguezAxisCAD I would gladly pay the $129 to have the recoil installed. I'd want a confirmation from the dealer first before buying the sled. I have been unable to find a recoil starter currently listed as an accessory install, but maybe it is out there. I know they were offered as an option a few years ago.
@RobRodriguezAxisCAD
@RobRodriguezAxisCAD 2 жыл бұрын
@@toddcoon6734 I purchased an MXZ600 Sport last season. The dealer installed the recoil accessory. It's just an assembly that contains the recoil, cord and cover(very simple). It was $129 installed. To access the recoil you have to open the right side side panel, there is no cut out in the plastic panel for it. Since the MXZ 600 Sport is a gen4 sled with the detuned 600, same as the NEO+ I assume the recoil can be added to it as well. I ordered a NEO+ and will be adding studs (really wish it was offered with a pre-studded track), recoil, heated shield plug (again should be standard), mid windshield (should be standard), carbides (should be standard) and maybe a swaybar. If the swaybar accessory fits on the NEO sleds (not sure the a-arms have the mount)?

I love that’s it’s fuel injected! Can’t believe the Polaris model still has carbs. Not sure which is better though, liquid or fan for this market. I think of low speed no snow overheats or did BRP address that with larger or more coolers than normal? Also - any other rider ergo’s different? Are the handlebars smaller and narrower for smaller riders? Is the sled lower for lighter riders? Would like to learn more on why this is better than a sport model for an entry level younger, lighter or smaller rider.

Great idea on ski doo's part. I still don't get the 600 cc 2 stroke though. Why not put 600 ACE motors in them and eliminate a motor from their lineup. Could be de-tuned if they wanted. This is basically what they did with the spark. Given the volume they are building of the ace motors (in multiple vehicle platforms) you wouldn't think it would cost much more to build one of them vs having a separate engine. Great review though. Very well put together.
@thegodfreyspecial423

That 600 EFI engine easily costs a fraction to produce compared to the 600 ACE and they are doing what they have done with the spark - this engine now has 3 variations of power. Still not clear if the version in this sled can be turned up to full-jam 85hp or not in the same way the Spark 900 ACE can be turned up with a simple flash. There is huge economy in these two strokes and they are light.

Wow I’m interested in this. I’m older and not interested in a hot sled. This thing reminds me of what Arctic Cat did in the 1970s with the Jag 3000 . A good sled for trail riding, not racing. Simple and roomy and easy to maintain. They sold thousands. Go to any vintage swap meet you’ll find ten sitting around. I trained my kids on one that I restored for the purpose. I’ve held off buying new because 12000 is too much. This is very interesting. 65mph is fast enough where I live. The 600 motor is so detuned and destressed it should last a decade.

"clam shell hood" with customization options like LinQ seats bins racks etc.. "Blast" is the closest thing but I feel its to pricy performance oriented and sizeable dimensionally speaking. The missing center shock in this sled is a swing and a miss. But, this is what the Blast should have been priced at. It Cat had any brains they’d install a 570 fan or the Yamaha 540 fan in the Blast to significantly lower the price. Unfortunately Cat is determined to go out of business so they won’t do anything to lower the price of the Blast. Does this 600 uses the same junk show, isoflex greased crank bearings that the old series 3 600 had? I’ll take a Fuji made 550 fan any day over that craptacular engine design. Also, why are you bagging on fan cooled sleds? They don’t overheat in low snow, hard frozen snow conditions like liquid cooled sleds do. Most new riders and kinds don’t ride super fast on trails or around the yard to throw enough snow onto the heat exchanger. They also don’t know enough to realize when the sled is getting hot. Unless a liquid cooled sled comes with a radiator and fan it will overheat in the conditions I described.

Well if im a kid, i want the fun one. The fun one is the blast. Zr or m. Full suspension. It isnt shrunk? Are we building a youth sled or adult sled? Hell i wish i could get the shrunk sled and still have the big motor. Spark is a fully capable machine which gave up nothing but top speed. One shock skid? No way. 40hp or 55hp? No way. That full size sled gets full size weight. Hard pass.

Your not a kid. Parents buy these type of sleds. It is a perfect match for the youth. At 40hp and a top speed around 50-55mph, the kids will have fun and not get into a situation that can be hazardous to others. They will grow into the sled naturally and fun learning about snowmobiling. Ski Doo hit the marks with this model.

@@mikeh4053 no point made. Try looking at the market it is targeted for. Youth and entry level riders. Not everyone wants a 20k rocket or 200hp. The cost meets most people's budget and interest level. Fun on the low side. 50mph is about the limit for 90 percent of most riders. They aren't looking to be king of the lake. That belongs to the idiot group.

@@oldwrench4213 already know. Lets take away rear skid performance for novice. Sorry, they need it most. Stripped down full size sled. Nothing to see here.
