Having such fun watching....very instructional, making it so easy to reproduce with the guide...ex.drawing it out etc....love to learn about cool and warm side...also the minimal amount of paint...for beginners it is also important to hear when you dry your canvas to keep going. I find that many videos do not show this, and it makes me wonder is it always wet on wet.... Will be going to follow you direct on Saturday. Love the "value" explanation ...and like the light camaraderie between you and your hubby

Question-I just started watching this. Noticed that the background was already done? Saying if someone wants to keep their painting? Shouldn't the board be prepared with a fixative( when painting, with oil or acrylics)?
@crackerboxpalace26977 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline, I am a newbie and have learned that gesso is usually applied before painting with acrylics. Acrylics are plastic and as long as you don't water them down too much (which will cause the paint to peel, eventually) don't really need a sealer. The quality of the paint you use can affect the archival qualities of acrylic paints. You can, however, apply a matte or gloss glaze over the finished painting to give it the finish you like and to improve archival tendences. There are mediums that can also be mixed with the paint to improve flow and some slow down drying time. However, some of these do not contain any pigment and will affect the paint much like water. I do believe it is called "underbinding" I always read the labels as they will usually tell you what ratio is acceptable for acrylic paints. I can't comment on Oils as I have never used them. :)

Angela, here in Canada we are very limited to where we can purchase supplies. Prices are very high and to order online we have to spend at least $150.00 or more for free shipping. We have a Michaels where I went a week ago and the lady there argued with me saying lead pencil was fine! She was supposed to be an artist lol. Oh well off to seek I go. Merry Christmas to all

What size fan brush is the best all around size to use? I have a 3, and I'm working on a very small canvas, 3X3.. Don't want to buy too many different sizes...... Great tree!

What colors could you use to substitute the magenta? I don't have it and I can never figure out how to create a color exactly like it or at least similar. I'm a beginner, only been painting about 2 months now so I haven't had a chance to expand my paint collection yet, love these videos, I always get my inspo from one of these videos, thank you for these tutorials! :) Happy holidays!

Hi Angela and Mark! Thank you for this gorgeous tutorial. My question is...I work with canvas boards usually, which are pretty toothy. Do I need to use gesso or some other primer? Thank you again for all you do :D

Angela, I have an app on my tablet called Art Board, and it helps me and gives me practice and confidence to paint. I love it. I do not celebrate the holidays, but I followed along as best as I could on the app and plugged in some other things to compensate for your lovely painting. I wish there was a way to get it to you and show you. I am no good at snow bunnies, so I had to add mist. Seagulls in the snowy sky, brighten it up, and bunny hiding in the mist not far from the tree, for fear he's their next snack. He blends well. I'd love to see a snow scene with bunnies in it. Winter animals. Please honey. I'm from Canada, Deer, Moose, Bear, you name it. I love you to death... You are precious. Julie

I cannot find chalk in any store, been hunting for several years now (ugh). I was told to use an HB pencil, what do you think? Things like this frustrate me, hugs and thanks so much.
@thankfulart8 жыл бұрын
+Ellie Mercer A white pastel stick or watercolor pencil would work too. I never use regular pencil because it shows under the paint. If you live in the US chalk can be found in Walmart or Craft stores with the Crayola crayons and kids art supplies.

Hello Ellie, try office supply section at target. I found (finally) a nice package of chalk (3/4 different colors) which is small diameter AND it came with a holder..almost like a pen. I did have a heck of a time finding chalk , most was the huge sidewalk chalk. Try Target or office supply store :)
