I followed your advice. I microwaved a bowl of water for 2 minutes. I added a few drops of Dawn dish washing detergent. I then used tongs to swish the parts around. The water became very murky. After soaking for 15 minutes, I repeated the process. Then, I rinsed them under running water. I used compressed air to blow them all dry. After a quick reassembly, the switches were working like brand new. You saved me over $151. That's what the dealership was asking for the switch assembly, and it had to be ordered. In just a few minutes I was able to restore the function like new. Thanks so much for producing this video! It was a great help.

This video is great. Seems so simple to follow. I just spilled coffee all over mine and somehow shoved the entire cradle into the console while trying to clean them. Going to try this tonight and see if the tabs just popped out and i can fix it without reordering the part. Hope it works! Thanks!!

But you can buy stand alone tilt/shock sensing mini alarms meant for bicycles and scooters. Some review better than others but there are plenty of them to choose from. Just pick one that people like. Most of them even have wireless key fobs. Besides not requiring any mods to the Prius security, and they have their own battery supply. Thanks for the comment.

But I searched KZbin till I found your upload on the matter. I found that same terribly sticky mess once I removed the cup holder. Yep, fail on Toyota's part for putting those right next to the cup holder! Tip for Toyota owners...when you take stuff apart, the Toyota Part Number is almost always found on the back....discovered this on my wife's Prius hubcap when she decided to destroy it on a curb!! (Why $30,000 Prius' STILL only have hubcaps and not aluminum wheels is also another Toyota fail!)

Eric Mbaabu: It's a very common problem. If the switches still move freely but do not work, you should check the switches on the circuit board as shown in the video. If they are fowled, clean them with rubbing alcohol and then clean the rest of the assembly as shown in the video.
