This was a really cool and creative hack. I like how it had one gimmick that spanned the entire hack, and was used in interesting ways all throughout, but it never felt forced. It was just there.

Metroid 99 Super Metroid tileset and abilities. Randomly generated rooms with enemies, powerups, etc. No E-tanks. Everybody has long shot, charge beam, morph ball, bombs, and has ammo weapons unlocked but need ammo pickups. Every room you clear adds an enemy into the next room of targeted players. If a room has a Metroid in it, killing it causes Metroids to spawn in the next room of targeted players, resulting in a growth curve of metroids that ends with rooms being completely full of metroids. rooms "behind" the pack fill with lava or acid depending on theme so that the last place player has to keep moving or else they die. every 12th room is a boss room. boss rooms will noy have metroids but will have other enemies added by being targeted. Special abilities like Space Jump and Screw Attack and the Varia and Gravity suits and beams including grapple are temporary power-ups granted in specific rooms and gone in the next room or when their timer expires. hidden tiles in every room contain additional upgrades for increases to the magazine size of your ammo weapons. the lore? the Galactic Federation has created a simulation of Samus's adventures and is using it to train super soldiers.

Way more in-depth than I was thinking, but yeah, as soon as he asked what the gameplay loop was, my thought was randomly generated levels. I don't know if you'd want to just be running left to right like in Mario though. Perhaps a randomly generating dungeon you have to explore? They don't have to be very big or complex, and if they're small enough maybe it would be a series of dungeons. All the rest of what you said should still work in that format I think.

I like this hack. Unique levels, not too unforgiving, levels have a good length, trolls are not at every corner, and the switch palace for the checkpoints in the final level is something more hacks should do (rather than making the switch palaces necessary).

Due to a lack of knowledge of where to ask, I figure I might as well ask here. I'm trying to learn kaizo tricks, so I'm playing through 2kaizo2learn. I'm HARD stuck on the last cape level (patched turnaround). It's clear that I'm lacking basic skills with the cape. Is there any tutorials I can watch (tried searching on youtube but was unable to find anything helpful) that could perhaps give me a theoretical knowledge of what to do and how to do it? Outside of that, I know that I just need to practice. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Find a playthrough of the hack and try to emulate it. If you can find one which shows the button inputs that would probably be better. I am not a kaizo player but that is what i would do.
