This one COMPLETELY CHANGED my mind about her. I had thought her previous stuff was just computer-programmed hits and a look put together by a management company, much like you see at the beginning of the " material girl" video. I was intrigued when I heard the violins at the beginning of "papa don't preach", I could tell she was getting better, but I still wasn't sold. Suddenly she had conga and Spanish guitar, and a unique sound. I suddenly took her seriously. "Madonna was born Madonna Louise Ciccone on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. She was raised in Pontiac and Rochester Hills, north of Detroit. She studied ballet as a child but attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship, turning to modern dance and studying with famed choreographer and dancer Martha Graham. It was Graham who dubbed Madonna “Madame X,” a name she would return to later in her career. However, she dropped out after two years and moved to New York City to pursue a career as a dancer. "There she worked as a waitress then backup dancer and singer. She formed a rock band, the Breakfast Club, with boyfriend Dan Gilroy, followed by a second band, Emmy, in which she wrote songs with band co-founder Stephen Bray. "In 1982 she was signed by Sire Records and started her solo career as a singer. She released her first album, Madonna, in 1983. Her second album, Like a Virgin, was the first by a female artist to top five million sales in the United States."

"LIKE A VIRGIN" was her FIRST HUGE HIT that skyrocketed her career, and yet no one mentions it. She made it with "Like A Virgin" like Donna Summer did with "Love to Love You, Baby. But they DID NOT let it define them.'

This song came out in 86, same year as Jody Watley's big hit song 'Looking for a new love'. Top five best dance song of the 80's for sure. Definitely deserves a listen to.

You might want to check a ballad Madonna did called Live To Tell. It was the title track for the movie At Close Range, starring her ex, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken and Mary Stuart Masterson. The movie was based on a true story. The movie would also be a good one for you and J to check out.

Almost all of Madonna's hits have very infectious dance beats, but the one that is different and beautiful is "Live to Tell".

You guys should definitely check out songs from her 1983 debut album (titled after her). When you listen to that album, it is clear that she was going to be s superstar! In those days, no one was making music like her, and she had several hit singles off that album, including: "Lucky Star", "Borderline", "Holiday", "Physical Attraction". It was definitely one of the more popular debut albums of any artist. MTV was also still very fresh in those days (beginning in 1981), and artists like Madonna was like their golden girl who helped make MTV a very popular staple for young TV audiences. That debut album was received with critical acclaim, going 5x Platinum, and selling more than 10,000,000 copies worldwide. She also won a VMA for her single "Borderline" from that album (which she wrote). Like I said, just based on her debut album, it was sure she would become a mega superstar. And she has proven that by being nominated for over 800 times for various music awards over her decades long career, and winning at least 417 of those awards.

Amber, if you like that Spanish guitar style... but want to see someone totally unexpected just killing it.... check out Roy Clark (yes, THAT Roy Clark... HEE HAW) doing "Malaguena"... you will seriously be blown away!!! The Flamenco style is amazingly difficult, and Roy played it like a BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this Madonna song... Wore out my copy of The Immaculate Collection back in the day.

Madonnas "Beautiful Stranger" from the Austin Powers soundtrack has a great video and its fun song from the 2000's, I feel like you both would get a kick out of it. Madonna also did the theme for James Bonds die another day "Die Another day" which is also great!

The Spanish guitar is always a great addition to any song :) I highly recommend her track 'Sorry' from 2005, 'The Power Of Good-Bye' from 1998 or 'Nothing Really Matters from also from 1998.
