The album this is off of, 1983's 90125, is, for me, one of the best albums of the 80s. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (which you all have done already); ""It Can Happen" (one of my personal all-tome favourite tracks); the instrumental "Cinema" (which is what this version of the band was going to be called before Jon Anderson came back. Just a fantastic album.

But then I heard this one... and now I own EVERY Yes album, Jon Anderson and Jon & Vangelis solo album, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin album, and more than 50 Rick Wakeman albums... Yep, this is the 1980s Yes, with Trevor Rabin on guitar. (Steve Howe had moved onto Asia in the period when Yes was broken up; Howe almost always features acoustic guitars in his songs with Yes, but Rabin generally disdains them.) A very clever and cool song, from the same album as "Owner of a Lonely Heart". I'm a bit ashamed I haven't recommended it as yet. Also from this album are "It Can Happen", "Hold On", and "Changes". And if you want to hear some 1990s yes, take a listen to "I Would Have Waited Forever", the best part of the misbegotten "Union" album. Going back to the classic period, you still need to hit "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change",, "Siberian Khatru" and "To Be Over". And then there's the unique "Drama" album, with "Machine Messiah" and Chris Squire's masterwork, "Tempus Fugit". And don't forget the love songs, like "Sweetness" and "Onward". And maybe, just maybe, you'll forget your time limit and play my favorite of all time, "And You And I". Maybe someday…

The album ‘90125’ was the early ‘80’s ‘rebirth’ of Yes, aka the return of Jon Anderson to the fold. The reason it sounds so ‘80’s is because it was produced by Trevor Horn, who helped define the sound of that era. He brought the world such bands as ‘Frankie Goes to Hollywood’ and ‘ABC’ amongst others. You’ve done interviews with musicians and producers before. If you could score an interview with Mr. Horn, you would rule the Reactorverse🤘

There are no founding members of Yes touring with them anymore. Jon Anderson and Chris Squire had an agreement on the use of them name yes. The band, just recently sued for copyright infringement (twice) on their recent material, has no connections to the sole remaining person, who should own the name YES, and that is Jon Anderson. Howe, who wasn't on their first two albums, should not be using the Yes name. IMHO

"90125" was not supposed to be a "YES" album, but rather a side project by a band called "Cinema". Bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White and Trevor Rabin (guitarist, singer, songwriter) formed Cinema, and began recording an album with original "YES" keyboardist Tony Kaye, who had been fired in 1971. They adopted a more commercial and pop-oriented musical direction as the result of their new material, much of which derived from Rabin's demos. During the mixing stage, former Yes singer Jon Anderson, who had left in 1980, accepted an invitation to return and record the co-lead vocals, and subsequently the band decided to stop calling themselves Cinema and declared themselves the new "YES" Lineup, and "90125" became one of the band's best known albums. Trevor Horn, formerly of YES & The Buggles, served as the album's producer and provided backing vocals. The album's name, "90125", was the album's original official Catalog Number for Atco Records (A subsidiary imprint of Atlantic Records). Here is an idea. Jon Anderson left the group in the late 1980s and formed another YES style group with three more former members, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman, & Steve Howe as "Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe" in 1988 and they recorded a self-titled album for Arista records with a lead single, "Brother of Mine", in an attempt to recapture the sound of "YES" in the 1970s from albums such as "Fragile" & "The Yes Album" & "Tales from Topographical Oceans". Reserve that song for one of your reactions and let me know what you think. url: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2mqpJSBfK2Yj5o (Video version as the original recording is 10+ minutes long).

Yes in the 70s played progressive rock. In the 80s they played progressive pop. This track was on the 1983 90125 album along with Owner of A Lonely Heart, which y'all have heard already. You're on your third Yes track. Seventies Yes is my preferred era though I like the 80s stuff well enough. Y'all should check out "Starship Trooper" next from 1971. Also, check out Chris Squire's song "Lucky Seven" from his 1975 solo album Fish Out of Water. He was the bass player and co-founding member of Yes until he sadly passed away in 2015. Some nice saxophone on there.
