There was a crowd of us allowed to get close to the players entrance, and while most of the Utd squad snubbed the supporters and made straight for the dressing rooms, David Beckham came over and signed autographs. A sad end really. He gave up at 32 and went to the MLS. He had the ability to convert himself to a more effective central player but I don't think the desire was there. He missed the peak of Manchester United, 2007-2011 where they made 3 CL Finals and were only slightly behind the greatest team in history. Real Madrid thrived after he left - 4 seasons and he only won 1 trophy, the league title in his final season where he was being used as a reserve more and more. He was always a brilliant business man and at the end he secured himself 3 half season loan spells at Milan (twice) and PSG where he barely played. A great character, fondly remembered for his early 20s where Beckham-Keane-Scholes-Giggs was an epic midfield. But certainly the least of the 4.

It’s a particular shame he went to the MLS as Real Madrid actually wanted to keep him before he left. Beckham had worked his way back into the first team, and was in the managers good books. The club even actively tried to stop the transfer to LA.
