Hi friends! Thanks for the helpful comments! The list of shows and movies I named at the start is indeed incomplete and off the top of my head -- as many of you noticed, I missed some stuff! I might watch some Phase 4 stuff slightly out of order, but I will watch it all :)
@standomagaa30767 ай бұрын
Hi Cristy, huge fan of your content. Before discovering your channel I didn't really have an opinion on reaction videos as a concept, then I stumbled onto your Return of the Jedi and Infinity War reactions and I realised "I get it!", like I immediately understood the part of the human psyche, so to speak, that this connects with, that sort of ability to relive a movie for the first time through someone's eyes, and also to even see that movie from a fresh perspective, cause for example having seen it many times you may stop noticing some cool things that a first time viewer like you will immediately appreciate. Due to a bit of social anxiety tonight is the first time I've decided to start commenting, specifically about the viewing order. I know you must've had millions of messages by now from people listing all the non-MCU or "MCU-adjacent" stuff you would do well to see, but the thing is, I believe a lot of the ones they talk about are only relevant to the MCU due to a reference or two, and not due to something that actually matters for the viewing experience. So hopefully you won't mind me offering my personal classification of what and when you "should" or "shouldn't" watch (and obviously you should watch whatever you want, above all else :D ) So first, the ones that I truly believe to be "optional", and my reasoning behind that: - What If - you might already know it's like an animated retelling of various past events in the MCU with one or a few changed details to see how it changes the rest of the story. Some people feel it's an essential tie-in, or that it's heavily important for the Loki show, but I honestly don't see that, like its main connection to Loki is that it shows the multiverse which is something that we see the beginnings of in Loki, but there are no major sort of "plot" connections as far as I'm concerned. So I would advise you to leave that one for much later, like for example when you're already caught up with everything and are simply craving more MCU content :D - Venom - the movies made by Sony based on one of the characters from Spider-Man comics, but without Spider-Man in them. There's technically a tie-in with No Way Home, but it happens only in the credits scene and has no real relevance to the main plot of the film, so again, I would advise to leave those be, at least for now and for example seek them out if you happen to be intrigued by that No Way Home credits scene :D - Marvel Television shows (apart from the so-called Defenders Saga, which I'll cover in a moment) range from almost completely disconnected and mostly only MCU by name (like Runaways, Cloak & Dagger and Helstrom) to ones that expand on minor MCU characters (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Inhumans) in ways that aren't technically canon to the main MCU storyline, however with the multiverse rules applied, I would treat them as sort of overgrown live-action "what if" storylines, and so I believe you could watch them in a similar way, as like something to treat yourself with further down the line when you run out of new MCU content (side note, all 3 of the above, What If, Venom movies and the Marvel Television shows, have had minor character cameos in various MCU projects since Endgame, but like I said before, they were moments that didn't absolutely require knowledge of the original medium to understand the scene, and so I don't believe there's reason to expect you to watch multiple hours of content just to better understand one or two references :) And now the only two ones that I believe to be "required" viewing, and when I believe that should ideally happen for your optimal viewing experience: - The Defenders Saga - the series of Marvel Television shows that I mentioned before (their titles are Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher, they should all be clearly marked as The Defenders Saga on Disney+), they're the only shows so far from the Marvel Television slate that Marvel Studios themselves have declared canon to the main MCU storyline, and elements from them will actually start appearing as early as the final episodes of Hawkeye, and there's some bits and pieces in She-Hulk etc., however I do not believe you absolutely need to have watched the Saga by then since once again, those are more the kind of cameos that function perfectly well even in the context of just the specific show/movie they're in. Instead here's what I suggest: one of the (currently) last MCU shows in terms of chronological placement is called Echo, and that's the one where The Defenders saga backstory really starts mattering more than in Hawkeye or anything before it, so since you've already declared you might watch some stuff out of order, I would just advise you to leave Echo for the very end of your current main MCU viewing order, and simply "knock out" the Defenders Saga before you get into Echo. - And lastly, the X-Men movies - due to the multiverse they will be at least partially integrated into the MCU story in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, but that one hasn't even come out yet, so you have time for those, and I believe you should just remember to watch them before you one day get around to Deadpool & Wolverine, and you should be good. There will be some cameos before then (and you've even already seen one in WandaVision!), but like I keep saying, my honest belief is they are ones where the understanding of context only enhances the scene instead of being absolutely necessary for understanding it. So this is it, hopefully my monologue could still be helpful among other suggestions you're getting. Will keep following your content regardless, and I hope you have a great night (or day, not sure what time it is anywhere else in the world ;D P.S. None of what I said is actually meant to imply any of these are bad or somehow unwatchable, a lot of them are great, I especially recommend watching Agents of S.h.i.el.d. at some point in the future, even just for yourself as a fan and nor for the channel :D

Tony Leung who plays the dad, Wenwu, is one of the greatest hongkong actors of all time. Hongkong movie industry was during the 80s, 90s and bit of early 2000s a gigantic industry, mostly because of the china market. Some year they had over 100 movies made so there were alot of movieactors in Hongkong for a few decades. Tony Leung considered one of the very best. Later he also worked extensively with moviepeople from china. Chow Yun-fat arguebly a bigger moviestar but Tony Leung greater actor.
@babs32417 ай бұрын
I think that Wenwu was very much a child of his times--he came from the medieval era, and everything he did is perfectly in line with a medieval warlord... which sort of naturally transitioned into organized crime, but it's not surprising that, in crisis, he automatically reverts to what he knew as a child.
@plutosknight7 ай бұрын
The Ten Rings was the organization that kidnapped Tony Stark in the very first Iron Man. Also, the monster that Wong is fighting is the Abomination, Emil Blonsky, from the Incredible Hulk.
@nvp81917 ай бұрын
Here are some Shang chi facts. Shang chi martial arts skills are so great he's able to defeat super powered individuals with his bare hands. The 10 Rings was the same organization that kidnapped Tony Stark in his first movie and help whiplash the villain from the second movie get to the race track to kill Iron Man. The glowing fighter was an extremist soldier from Iron Man 3 and his opponent was one of the black widows who has been released from their mind control. Wong's opponent was the abomination from The incredible Hulk movie and he has evolved in a more comic book accurate look. The MCU differs from the comic books. For example the 10 Rings in the comic book where rings that fit on your finger and created by a dragon species with their own individual powers. The MCU 10 Rings work together with multiple uses. They also where created by Kang the conqueror AKA he who remains from the Loki series.
@insanegamer57947 ай бұрын
We haven't discovered who created the rings yet. At least not in films. All Bruce, Wong, and Marvel said was that the rings "created a wave of energy that was felt in Kamar-Taj...and that Bruce has discovered a signal being sent." Also, Marvel said that it wasn't like any alien tech she had seen. How does that mean Kang (HWR) created the rings?

This is the first Marvel movie to bring true martial arts to the MCU going as far as to pay homage to two Jackie Chan classics. On the Bus as the thugs go after Katy, Shang-Chi fights them off, revealing he's more than just a valet. When one tries to grab him by the jacket, Shang-Chi wraps his jacket around the assailant's arms and knocks him back. He then quickly slips the jacket back on in time to drive an elbow into another goon's chest, which draws parallels to the supermarket brawl in Rumble in the Bronx, Chan's breakthrough in the American market. Another tribute to Chan comes later on when Shang-Chi tracks Xialing's fight club down in Macau. As the Golden Daggers underground circuit gets invaded by Wenwu's goons, a brawl breaks out that sees Shang-Chi and Katy try to escape via scaffolding on the side of the building. It mimics Rush Hour 2, where Chris Tucker's Carter and Chan's Lee ran afoul of the triads, which caused them to engage their enemies on a scaffolding outside a high-rise.
@peachesnola78602 ай бұрын
I knew that move on the bus screamed Jackie Chan!! Didn't realize it was influenced by an actual move he'd done. I'd heard that the choreography in the fighting scenes was lead by the same guy that worked with Jackie Chan, and that he also played that trainer with the mask in this movie (the one Shang-Chi almost killed, that was the first to die from the soul eaters). I can't remember his name though.

Great film. Great reaction. Skipping “What If…” (why, because it’s animated?) would be a mistake as it’s proven to be part of the overall story, tying directly into Loki. Also, we’re skipping The Eternals? If we’re skipping “bad” MCU films, why did you react to “The Dark World?” Lol. If the answer is “I watched Thor because it’s part of the story,” then we have no excuse for skipping The Eternals. It’s not like it’s a “One Shot” or an “I Am Groot” short.

Shang-Chi in the comics usually doesnt have powers, but his sense of "chi", or life force is so concentrated into his fighting style that he can actually take on superpowered and enhanced individuals in single combat. He's fought Woleverine, Spider-Man, Captain America and Black Panther.....and he's also beaten them on different occasions in sparring matches. He is among the BEST martial artists on the entire planet. Some of the most prominent fighters in MArvel have asked him for advice on fighting, but also practical wisdom.

Hmmm I still felt bad for Wenwu though even though he did bad things in the past and how he treated his kids. However, in his own ways..he still kept an eye on them and let them live their on lives. Granted, his actions were wrong …I understand he was literally still living with overwhelming grief, sadness, and guilt. He was completely vulnerable + powerful cuz of the rings. He was so desperate to see his wife again when he probably deep down knows she’s gone. It fed him lies and he had tunnel vision..he was focused to getting to his wife.. no matter who got in his way. Yeah he wasn’t a great person and is a criminal/war lord, but he had a great love for his wife and his kids we saw glimpses of that. Especially when he pushed Shang Chi out of way of the evil soul sucker dragon. That was his unfortunate wake up call, but he truly did love and care for his family. He was just put on a dark path and was tricked. At least he saved his son and gave up his rings..he understood in the end with just one look at Shang Chi. So for me being in the Asian culture, where our parents can be harsh or have high expectations. To see Wenwu and Shang Chi have that small moment of realization and understanding hits the heart. Wenwu did not say it, but his eyes and facial expression says it all. Again.. he really did and said some horrible stuff..but he really did love his family.
@peachesnola78602 ай бұрын
I've seen some people theorize that by giving the rings to Shang-Chi, he gave up the immortality the rings gave him. You can see, even with the slow-mo portion, that it takes a long time for the Devourer to take his soul, and it doesn't really happen until he gives up the rings. I think he probably could have fought it (maybe not defeat), and saved himself, but realized how much he screwed up, and hurt his children in the process. And he finally accepted that his wife was gone & didn't really want to go on without her. So he gave them to his son, knowing that Shang-Chi was more than capable of fighting. Wenwu was a tragic figure for sure. He wasn't fighting for malicious reasons, he was being manipulated in his grief and was blind to everything else. The actor was amazing in that role.

There is also the What If series that is indeed connected to the MCU even if it's animated, it is still very much connected and worth the watch. While I enjoyed this movie overall, my biggest issue with Phase 4 is that we've lost all the characters that built the franchise and now we're having to root for brand new ones. Generally, being introduced to new characters can be a great thing (to further the storylines) but Feige and his gang used the best heroes for the first few phases of the MCU so now we've got something of a B Team moving forward. No one wants to watch a film about Puck, Almighty Dollar, 3-D Man, Doctor Bong or Fluff. Yes, those are all real Marvel characters. I'll assume Fluff doesn't do what his name implies... but he might.

If it's not too late, you really should watch season 1 of Daredevil before you start Hawkeye. There is a reason for this.

This is where the MCU starts to go off the rails for me. The entire cast of this movie is tremendous and deliver great performances, but the Ten Rings are completely untrue to the comics. Film studios making generic movies with a superhero coat of paint is the reason comic movies have sucked for decades. The MCU started out telling the stories quite faithfully, but here they’re back-sliding into movie studio nonsense. Why should I care about a CGI fight with a dragon that has nothing to do with the actual character of Shang-Chi? There’s no heart to phase 4 Marvel movies (probably because the filmmakers aren’t comic fans like the early ones were).
