I love the way it encourages you to choose colours you wouldn’t normally gravitate to. You can of course play it safe but I like the unexpected colours they suggest!

omgosh, I really enjoyed your demo of the Palette Scout! Color theory is a challenge for me and this would really help me learn. I agree it would be a great gift idea. I have two crafty friends I think I'll get it for Christmas gifts and I'm going to put it on MY Christmas list, too! Thank you for taking the time to show this and thank you to Palette Scout for sending it! I do like the cubes (don't have them) but I do think I would learn more with the Scout version. As always, I appreciate you, your time, your education. MWAH!

This was a great tutorial! Thank you so much for walking us through it as you learned as well, it was so fun to learn terminology and to look at color differently in the pairings. I feel like I got a whole lot smarter about color. My husband and I own a paint store and I think I learned so much tonight that it's going to help me with helping customers with color. As always thank you for sharing so much of your time.

Thanks, Michelle! Yes, I learned a lot, too! I learned all of the terms, etc years ago but don’t use them regularly so it was a great refresher for me! If anything, I love that they pointed out how to get tones (add gray), shades (add black), and tints (add white, or water if you’re watercoloring). Those alone helped me with the color mixing! 😊

Thank you for sharing this! I ordered one. I have a small color wheel on my desk at all times and grab for it often, but a lot of the time it's really hard to figure out what I'm looking for. The color swatches on the color wheel are very small and there's so much going on around them. I love the idea of being able to isolate the colors I'm looking at to better match them and the cards are a nice size to represent the colors. I'm also excited that I can take them to ink pads, cardstock or my color swatches to find what I'm looking for. I can't wait to get mine. And your card was awesome as always!

You ‘create’ a mindset of encouragement, hope and joy and the means to pass it on. I often watch your channel for respite, and then begin to ‘create’ and also pass it on. Please share thanks to all these wonderful companies. Grateful!

@shireetropix63602 ай бұрын
Of course, owning the Colour Cubes, you would need to cross reference your final choice of Scout palette with the Cube. Does your chosen Scout palette exist as a set in the Cube already? If not, what needs to be substituted to match and then, which do you personally prefer - the Cube or the Scout? I see the value of this but which of them is a) more thorough and b) more useful? The challenge in both of them is to step outside and extend your colour choices. Also, does the Scout give the pantones as well? Do you know if there are plans to extend it? Is that a possibility or is it only going to be able to deal with this finite set of colours in it's current form? I'd love to see these questions answered from a professional viewpoint in a follow up video if you can.
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
I haven't thought about it that hard. I am treating them like two separate systems. Depending on my mood or if I feel like challenging myself will determine which I use.

This looks so fun but postage is more than the deck so it'll have to give it a miss.
@jaydee50222 ай бұрын
This looks so cool but I can't help wishing they had chosen more accurate names for the colours - pine is a blue green not that granny apple colour, garnets are slightly purple a d 'ibis' - they're white and black! I know there's a scarlet ibis but it's called scarlet and it's not that purple. It seems a pity not to use more accurate names when the whole process is about familiarising yourself with colour theory.
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
I realized after the fact that the colors are named in alphabetical order going around the color wheel. That explains the color naming a bit better. I believe they did this so you could return the cards to color order by just alphabetizing the cards.
@jaydee50222 ай бұрын
@@kwernerdesign oh clever to spot that. It's not helpful to me because I am too literal but I can see the logic. Thanks for explaining? And thanks again for exploring the pack so thoroughly. You always inspire!
@audregaer32812 ай бұрын
I think it is strange that they use all the correct color terms but give the colors goofy names. What is wrong with red, red orange, red violet, etc that tell you where the color fits on the color wheel and what colors make the secondary and tertiary colors. I’m certainly no expert and sometimes I need some color inspiration but I think this ‘game’ would make me crazy. TFS

I'm surprised any one buys these things like color cube and this Pallette scout. I can make my own color palettes on Procreate from pictures that I like the colors of. I used to on PS but because Adobe is not nice I don't use that any more. I am a graphic designer, artist, crocheter, knitter, etc. If you just get a color wheel these are not needed.

Can you mix the grayer with the brighter
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
Yes. You can mix the toned colors and bright colors (the fronts and backs of the cards). I haven't tried that yet, but they do mention mixing those in the starter guide.

What would be the distress inks that match this color palette?
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
No clue. I think you’d have to go through and figure that out. Close colors are likely in the deck since there are 180 colors.
@mpbailey182 ай бұрын
I know it was your first look at this product, but it really seems overly complicated. So once you have a palette, then you have to figure out what you personally own that comes close to these colors... gads. This may seem like fun for some, but not for me! Appreciate the amazing amount of work this company did to create such an involved product. Would be curious who they are marketing this to? Almost $40 with tax and shipping...sigh. A good color wheel is easier!
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
It did seem complicated at first, but now that I've played with it, it seems pretty easy. :) What's appealing to me is that it's easier to quickly pull cards and create different palettes (whether you start with a challenge card or a suggested standard combo). If you have swatch cards of inks and cardstocks in your crafting stash, you could essentially do the same thing (with the addition of using a color wheel as well, like you mention). Personally, I don't have individual swatch cards of every ink, cardstock, or paint in my craft room, so I wouldn't be able to combine color combos in a similar manner. For me, it's easier to use a generic pack of color cards (there are 180 colors in Palette Scout), create the color combos, and then match them as closely as possible to colors in my inks, cardstock, and paints. Overall, I suspect their target audience is those who want to learn about color theory and put it to practical use in a convenient way. To each their own. Doesn't sound like you're the target audience for Palette Scout.

Do people really need to go through all this to pick a color palette? Not being rude; I’m genuinely curious.
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
Sometimes color palettes come easy to you-you just see a group of colors that resonate with you. Other times, you need to take the time to discover them. It’s a process. :)
@korkiemoore-bruno36452 ай бұрын
Way too complicate. I usually understand and enjoy all your videos. I think it is fine for professional use. I am going to have to locate something for the lay person. I was so excited to see a video on combining colors. Way too many cards. Just watching her, a professional, go through the steps convinced to search for something less challenging.
@kwernerdesign2 ай бұрын
Well, to be fair, this was my very first time playing with the cards. I think if I filmed this video now it would appear easier and simpler to use because I now already know what I’m doing. Does that make sense? I’ll be completely honest, at the start I was overwhelmed. I’m sure that’s what you’re picking up on. But now that I’ve played with it a bit, I love it! I should film a follow up using the cards (I’m sure I will), because it would look much easier now that I understand the system.
