Layne was originally the baritone for the group and became the beat boxer after Scott Porter left to become an actor. Scott came back as the featured guest in the Halo theme.

Layne was their original baritone singer when they first formed, but that only lasted a short time. But you have heard him sing more than you might realize. Almost all of their songs have him in the harmonies to round out the sound, even if the video might not show it because his main job is the beatboxing. Even in this video, during the Te Fiti part when the lights go down, you can see that he’s singing harmony. He has been getting more solo singing time in recent years. Some good ones for hearing a lot of Layne’s voice are True Colors, Heart Of Life, and We Don’t Talk About Bruno.

I think we all agree that longer hair Geoff is the way to go! This video totally blew up for them - they thought they were too late to the party, but it actually worked out splendidly. They did a great arrangement here - and we are always happy to get a Layne singing part! 🌹🕊

Thanks for your reaction! Voice Play recently released their cover of "Stand By Me" and it is absolutely stunning! I don't know what happened but it has been completely overlooked (possibly because it was filmed in the mall and people thought it was just a mini/short but one reactor said he never received a notification of it's release.) We would love to see you react to their new one- you will love it!

Earl had the lead part in Queen in 5 minutes - which is LOADS of fun. You also saw him in Oogie Boogie. Layne was baritone until Scott Porter left, then took over as beatbox. But that was a long time ago, when they were touring and before the youtube videos started...

Before he took over as their beatboxer (I think from Scott Porter, but I could be wrong about that) Layne used to be VoicePlay's baritone singer. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually like this medley better than The Little Mermaid--that one is just a little too over-the-top for me. I do like Geoff's long hair better, but I think it was very cute at this length too. Going back through your VoicePlay reactions in your channel, you've seen Earl before in This Is Halloween and Phantom of the Opera. A couple of my other favorites featuring him are Don't Stop Believin' with Camp A Capella, and Queen in Five Minutes, both of which are just amazing.

Since Earl was a founding member of the group, he will be in all of the videos up until he left for undisclosed personal reasons in mid-2020 - so yes, he was in Phantom of the Opera. As for Layne speak/singing here - if you watch the quiet, dark section right after Geoff's solo, you'll notice that Layne is singing harmony there, because there's no beatboxing in that section. That is usually the case - if there's no beatboxing, Layne will go back to being a baritone, which is what he was when the group started out. Check out I Can't Make You Love Me, and their newest Stand By Me to hear Layne singing for most of the song. Layne didn't become the beatboxer until several years after the group originally formed. And an interesting note: when their original beatboxer (Scott Porter - see Halo Theme) left, Geoff took over the beatboxing duties - check out Huldra Draco's channel for videos of Geoff singing bass and beatboxing at the same time! Geoff originally taught Layne to beatbox - but Layne has taken that and run with it!

Thank you for your great reaction! You told me after The Little Mermaid Medley that Moana was a fantastic movie and so, despite being older than you with no children, I watched it. And you were right: It is a fantastic movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it! While I always enjoyed VoicePlays Moana Medley, it improved it by actually seeing the movie and associating the songs with the events. I have to say that the story was certainly not what I was expecting after watching VoicePlay's Medley.

That's fantastic! Yes, it really is a great movie. For the most part, I've always enjoyed watching these types of movies with my kids. They always throw in some humor for the adults that go over the kids' heads 😄

Earl Layne and Geoff meet and became friends in Jr High/ Middle School. Love Layne's singing voice and it's such a treat to hear it. Check out True Colors it's truly amazing. Def Geoff with long hair

Love this medley... like all of their medleys 😅 I think there is no cover by them, that I don't like 🙈 Watching the movie (over here in Belgium it is called "Vaiana") I didn't like the "Shiny"-song, but Geoff put a super nice spin on it and with that voice he could sing the phonebook and I would be in awe 😅🫣🙈

I love VoicePlay and I love your reactions. BUT... I have to say this particular piece is one of my "least favorite' numbers by them. I DO really like Layne's performance, and the "fade to blue' part is great! Oh yeah... LONGER hair! LOL
