Note that the book version has a whole bunch of background information that is not in the series anywhere (even if you're fully caught up), but it was also clearly written before certain things were finalized, so there are a few continuity glitches; you can't take it as 100% canon, but it's good for theorycrafting. The comics released after seasons 4, 5, and 6 (later this year) are 100% canon, although thus far only the first one is really useful to understanding the show, as it fills in an important part of a time skip.

I re-watched the series recently and there's so much subtlety to the characterization and storytelling. I especially love the juxtaposition between Lujanne and Viren. Lujanne speaks about the differences between appearance and truth, and we see her use illusions (which are a kind of lie) to tell the truth. Meanwhile, Viren is doing the opposite, using the tools of truth (the King's official seal and the mail system) to tell lies.

just so you know their are two side books that don't get shown in the show as far as I'm aware. theirs "the blood huntress" and "through the moon". "the blood huntress" is about rayla's backstory. there is one spoiler i believe but it's not a huge one. if you don't want the spoiler then read it after s3 ep3. The extra medias are for the fans who love the series enough to want to know more, not because they have to read them to understand the show.

9:22 without spoiling too much, the "moon dimension" isn't really elaborated on in the TV series. But it is further elaborated in the TDP graphic novel "Through the Moon" which takes place between S3 and S4. I highly highly highly recommend reading it because a pivotal event happens in that book that is important for understanding the new status quo in S4. I personally think it's kinda stupid that the writers didn't include that moment in the TV show, but it is what it is. The comic itself is really cute and a great story to read, so it's not like it's a pain to read it. I think you'll enjoy it!

Let's just say I'd love to see the reaction to the summit gathering episode/s. Which I think is just before the interesting point-twisty with Amaya. And about Viren... only spoilery thing I'll say is that your opinion might change through the seasons. I'm currently rewatching the 5th season after binging the four during the weekend, catching up before the 6th comes out, and, well... I can say for certainty that (at least for me) there isn't ONE strictly defined villain in the classical meaning during the entire show so far. Just want to edit to add this in: the end of se5 ep.2 is truly the most terrifying & tear-eyed the show's gotten for me so far.
