So I went to Kyoto the other day (about 20 days ago actually) to see just how quiet it had become recently and well...
Disclaimer: This was filmed at the start of March, way before anything huge went down in Japan and Japanese people were still going out as usual. Actually only very recently has Japan even issued a statement encouraging their citizens to self-isolate and stay home (right after the olympic postponement announcement LOL) so don't worry, I'm not travelling right now. I'm staying indoors as much as I can and going insane just like the rest of us.

Before people start planning my cancellation party, I filmed this video weeks ago when it was still very much safe to travel, it's just taken me awhile to get around to editing it. Japan has only recently started to encourage people to stay indoors (still no lockdown enforced) however I've been staying indoors as much as I can for the past couple of weeks. I'm not condoning or promoting travelling around anywhere, especially Japan, right now.

Glad to see you're staying safe now, and this was old footage. I've always enjoyed your videos since I came across them last year prior to my trip to Japan. I've been really worried recently about Japan and the overall lack of awareness about the situation. Good to see people are now starting to pay more attention and take it more serious, I have a lot of family in Japan. Anyway stay safe and keep up the good content when we all make it through this crazy time in history.

The music chosen for this vid is excellent, I like it a lot. It's interesting how so many beautiful things are getting time to breathe and be apart from humans a little bit. I can't believe how back when you filmed this I would not have been stressed out about Yoshi touching things outside with his hands, or about about other people coming within 1.5 metres from you. I went to Kyoto Monday and Tuesday! I strolled through Fushimi Inari & Bamboo forest without another soul in sight! The first time I had visited Kyoto I was really turned off by the sheer amount of overtourism. If you're a resident in Japan. I think if you take precautions and keep to your bubble. This is absolutely the best time in your life to visit Kyoto. And right now blossoms are in full bloom!

You don't need (pre)pandemic to experience this. I went to Fushimi Inari some 3 years ago and going there around 7.30 am ensured that I met only a few locals on my way. Back down around 10 am and temple was mad busy with tourists and students (it was just before the exams season). But not every one likes to wake up early. Keep up the good work!

I took that little bamboo detour when I was in Kyoto in January, and it led me around the mountain where there was basically no-one :D I only ran into one other foreigner on my way around, and it led me to some beautiful spots. It's hard to believe more people didn't explore around more, but I spose they have to get that insta worthy shot with all the gates! It felt like such an amazing privilege to be able to explore such a beautiful place. Must have looked like an absolute wacko with my winter gear on though - Aussie winters definitely cannot compete.

Hannah, I enjoy your work, but it would be useful to have captions in the video (or in the description) about where you exactly are. We are planning a trip to Japan (at the appropriate time) and would love to check out some of the places you showed, but aside from Fushimi Inari it was difficult to locate the other places without a name. Of course we will find our own hidden gems, but the locations you showed looked particularly appealing (especially without the crowds).

*SURGICAL MASKS DO NOT PROTECT HEALTHY PEOPLE FROM CORONAVIRUS* There is no need for healthy people to wear the cheap and common surgical masks when out in public, as it offers no meaningful protection for the wearer from the coronavirus, or, even the common flu. The mask’s primary purpose is to help prevent a doctor or nurse from spitting and dribbling into the patient, when operating or evaluating an open surgical incision, or wound injury. *kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoGxpIewppeqiLM*

@@user-kc1tf7zm3b I used to believe the same thing but more and more evidence is coming out to support the use of masks. If you go to minute 13.00 of this video: COVID-19 | Live Ask-Me-Anything with Rishi Desai, MD, MPH , this Doctor who's a Former Outbreak Investigator at the Center for Disease Control explains the difference between a low inoculum and a high inoculum of the virus. If you received a low inoculum of the virus from someone sick, you will have a better outcome of the disease vs having a high inoculum.. Also, even if you think you are healthy you might be an asymptomatic carrier of the virus, thus having a mask will prevent you from spreading the virus around..sorry if i gave a long answer, hope it helps
@user-kc1tf7zm3b
@user-kc1tf7zm3b 4 жыл бұрын
I watched the video from 13m to 14m15s, in which Dr Rishi Desai broaches a typical hospital scenario. What Dr Desai states and implies is all very fundamental: when a medical professional is attending to a patient with suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus, it is *absolutely essential* to properly don a N95 mask (not a cheap surgical mask) and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There has always been exponentially higher risks of contracting any virus where the sick patient is coughing straight into your face while effecting a medical procedure. As compared to the far lower risk of being in the same large conference room with the unknown carrier, and, using the same bathroom after the carrier has used it themselves. These are simple medical and biological realities; this was all true before the coronavirus came about, with other viruses and the common flu. Coming back to cheap surgical masks, the advice of the World Health Organization, Chief Medical Officers and health departments of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States is universally the same: there is *no benefit* for healthy people wearing a mask, not providing care to a suspected coronavirus carrier. This is especially the case today as there are very, very acute supply shortages of masks for those who truly need these PPEs, like medical professionals, and, non-healed confirmed and probable persons carrying coronavirus who can still transmit the disease to others. The medics still very much need these PPEs while treating other patients with other conditions who do not have the coronavirus, just like the normal everyday hospital practice, before the pandemic came about in January 2020. The sheer and harsh reality is that before an effective, safe and widely available coronavirus vaccine and treatments materialise for all worldwide, the order of the day for the many months ahead is staying at home as much as possible, social distancing, rigorous testing and infections big data collection and analysis. www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks
@dangerouszio
@dangerouszio 4 жыл бұрын
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b well, of course the N95 would be a much better option and of course given the lack of PPE these days, authorities suggest against the use of masks for "seemingly" healthy people. That's probably the only real reason why they recommend against their use for the "healthy". However, the problem with this virus is the asymptomatic carriers who might not know they have the virus yet and might well be the biggest spreaders. On top of that, other epidemiologists recommend to wear masks or any other type of face covering, especially if you need to go to crowded places ( which is more common than being in a large conference room for most people), to protect yourself and others. Now there seem to be a few countries that start to make it mandatory to wear any sort of face protection when in public. "The sheer and harsh reality is that before an effective, safe and widely available coronavirus vaccine and treatments materialise for all worldwide, the order of the day for the many months ahead is staying at home as much as possible, social distancing, rigorous testing and infections big data collection and analysis. "..I am afraid you are 100% right

I first visited Kyoto in the early summer of 2015 and then again in late spring last year. I was totally surprised by how much more people were at the tourist spots as compared to my first trip.... I actually felt it was so overcrowded in some places that it detracted from the enjoyment of the surrounds a bit. Japan is becoming more and more popular tourist destination by the year. I'm kinda glad I got the chance to enjoy some places when they weren't as overcrowded.

Your’re very lucky you managed the pandemic well and is now living normally. Hope the rest of the world is as awesome as japan. My A7iii mic jack broke too but the replacement has been good so far. Maybe try a GH5. I think it would be perfect for your videos. You can even do 4K 60p since most of your content is travel beauty scapes.

Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about the GH5! I just can't be bothered to learn a new system, but I guess I'll have to if my Sony keeps breaking lol. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hello. I just found your site. Subscribed. Kyoto? I plan on visiting Japan when the travel restrictions are lifted. I have friends in Kyoto but lost contact. I think each Prefecture is it?, has set up their own stay inside rules, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway thank you. Appreciate anything else you may have on Kyoto. Stay safe. Stay home.

I was debating making a comment about the audio, then you directly addressed it. Still amazing footage far and above most others. You were one of the inspirations for me to finally invest in a Mavic 2 (the Zoom, though). Do you have to register your drone to film for commercial (i.e. for use in money earning tasks) purposes in Japan? We do in the USA.

Oh that’s nice to hear :) Yes if you wanted to use your drone for TV/movies/commercials then you’d have to get it registered in the same way.

I was there earlier this month and it was packed with people. I saw virtually 0 tourists from China or Korea, which are normally very prominent in the city however many many more Japanese were flocking around. I guess it's a combination of spring break for uni/high school students and them not being able to travel for graduation trips abroad.

You need an L-plate rig to protect the audio jack Hanna. We all face the same problem with mic jack on A7iii especially if you move around a lot. It will keep you mic jack protected. SmallRig is a good choice.

I saw the video about emissions and watched it being reduced daily during quarantine. Now if we can just get better factories and cars in place. I wish USA had more trains

Kinda sad that I may not be able to visit Japan for a bit. We planned to come at the end of April but with the travel restrictions in place It's not looking good. Might have to push the visit to later in the year.

I must have been lucky as I was in Kyoto last December and it wasn't crowded at all (compared to the numerous times I've been there). Fushimi Inari was exactly like your video! So awesome to actually 'see it' Stay Safe Hannah!

I was in Kyoto a week after you. The Fushimi Inari shrine was quite compared to height of tourism but the guide I was with that day was surprised by the amount of Japanese there, like he said it's rare, almost like the travel bans had given the country their shrine/temple back.

Just found your channel as I'm looking around KZbin while on lockdown here in Hawaii. I watched your Kawaguchiko video and now this one. For Fushimi Inari, you should try going at night. It's open 24/7. Well I should say the grounds are open 24/7 and the experience I had was amazing. I saw something like 5 or 6 people my entire 2 to 3 hours I was there. I believe I went around 8PM and that was in November as well. Just bring a flashlight although you could probably be fine with your cell phone light as well. Awesome video's as well by the way.
