I remember when I was a kid I was running and my dog ran infront of me and I fell over, my upper arm was bleeding profusely. I ran home to my dad and he literally spat on some tissue wiped it and stuck a bandage on. Now Im 44 and have a scar 6 cm long and 1 cm wide.

Why was this somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one who slipped with a knife while crafting...looked at the cut, looked at the superglue...I mean I haven't been punished enough for the solution but I know one day my creative reckless will backfire. But until then, everything can be a DIY! (But on a serious note, hope everything turns out alright

Hospitals use superglue. I mean, not the cheap craft kind probably, but it is still superglue. When I was still working in child protective I had a grandparent bring a kiddo in for a visit with his mum, he had a huge shaved area on his head and a Band-Aid. Grandparent was an ER nurse and had cleaned the wound he’d gotten (from jumping off the top bunk) and then stuck it together with superglue. I let the case manager know, case manager checked with a doctor, doctor said the nurse knew what she was doing 🤷‍♀️

I was at a ska show once - for context it was wintertime, so the floor was slick. I was up by the front dancing and I took a tumble, right into someone's bar stool. I popped up, apologized to the (for some reason) aghast person for bumping into them, and went right back into dancing. At the end of the song I decided to go wash my face off - I had been dancing so much that sweat was pouring down my face. Except it wasn't sweat. When I looked in the bathroom mirror I realized I had split the bridge of my nose down to the bone, and blood had been gushing down my face this whole time. At least now I know why the person in the bar stool looked at me that way...

You're fix is not as crazy as it sounds. What they label as Dermabond in hospitals, to glue cuts together, is actually just CA glue. So it is perfectly safe to use in it the way you did. Just bear in mind that you may not get it as straight as a doctor so you may have more scarring. 😊

I cleanly sliced right into my thumb with a kitchen knife trying to open a childproof bag (it was THC/CBD tea lmao). It was the first time my partner and I were going on a trip out of town for the day, and I didn’t wanna freak him out/make a bad impression so I whispered to him “I cut myself… and it’s pretty bad”. So he casually went to get a bandaid, and comes back to me only to find my clutching my thumb with a paper towel drenched in blood 😂 the cut was so clean that it basically sealed itself after applying pressure and some good wrapping, and the scar is a funny memory. From this point on he’s always said that I’m too calm in serious situations

My art related injury. In high school I had painted a large saw blade, 4 foot diameter. A couple of years ago I got it from my mom. Not knowing how to hang it (it is quite heavy), I had just set it next to my bed. Then one night I caught my foot on it. Between my last to toes. Needed a few stitches. Made a good story in the ER.

Jazza...Jazza...Jazza...I'm glad you're ok! It's weird that I was recently watching an older Snake Discovery video, and Emily mentioned getting accidentally bitten on the lip by a large bird (not the bird's fault-it had balance issues). She went to the doctor, and the cleaned it & super glued it. So when the same thing happened again, she super glued it herself. My story...I have so many! When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade (I was in Catholic school at the time) I dropped my pencil, and tried to catch it. Unfortunately, it flipped the wrong way, and it stuck in my palm just below my fingers. It broke off, but I was too scared to tell the nun what happened. I can still see the dark spot, so I'm guessing I didn't get it all out.

(Super glue on wound story) When I was younger my older brother and I was using a vase to shoot bottle rockets because our mom wouldn't let us hold the bottle rocket fireworks. Well my brother put the firework the other way and it shattered the vase, needless to say we cleaned it up, but a few hours later I had went to sit in the grass forgetting where the vase blew up. I put my hand down first like a fist and tiny peices of glass went into my hand. Needless to say, my father the outdoors always getting hurt man he is. He cleaned the cut all nice and neat but it didn't stop bleeding. So he pulled out the good old superglue. Still have a scare to this day, but man did it work! Hahaha

My Dad did the same thing when I was a kid an my mom was furious that he didn't go get it checked at the hospital. He still has the scar... PS he was helping me with my school project at the time XD I nearly took off the tip of my finger with a box knife when I was working in a retail loading dock. Luckly my thumb nail was just long enough to divert it. Took nearly a month to get the nail even again. All this to say...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES! Work safety is no joke :) I am glad Jazz is on the mend and I am very happy to hear that he took the opportunity to show off his "dad workshop remedies" but also confirmed he is responsible and professional when considering the injury. Super glue is find to use as long as: - You wash the wound really well first - Don't put superglue in the wound, only apply it topically - Put it in incremental, small beads, to close the skin, instead of covering the entire wound with it. (Allow for drainage and proper surface area for scabs to form) - If it looks worse in a few days, go see a doctor.

This happened to me twice at the same store, doing the same thing. I worked at a small grocery store and was breaking down boxes with a box cutter. When I pulled the cutter back a little too far and cut my inner arm close to the elbow. First thought I had was clean it. Then put some paper towels on it and secure it with packing tape. Problem solved and went back to work. Not too long after that I cut myself again close to the first cut. Treated it the same way. After that I got smart and started cutting boxes with the blade going away from myself. Still have both scars today almost 20 years later.

Super glue honestly isn't the worst thing you can do to a clean cut like that. Medical glue is actually made from the same stuff, just a lot more expensive to buy xD when sealing big surgical cuts on animals our vets actually used super glue many times as well. I've never had a major injury before, mainly just small cuts from saws, animal scratches or cuts when preparing fodder (like chopping the top of my thumb off twice oops) and I pretty much dealt with them the same way. Put desinfecting spray on it, enough bandaids to kind of stop the bleeding, duck tape on top and don't touch for two days - always been fine xD having done multiple first aid courses did help me when dealing with injuries of my co-workers though, I highly recommend such training :) (Also I just realized that the context of me being a zookeeper might help with the understanding of my paragraph xD)

Leathercraft (what I do as a hobby/small business) requires quite a few sharp tools and some of them (e.g. knifes, needles, owls), did end up forcefully in various parts of my body, mostly hands, arms and thighs. Although needles are actually blunt which makes it even worse. Over time you learn that force is not what one should use and time you're trying to save is less precious than parts that hurt for a while.

When I was four, I was drawing on this desk in the laundry room, sitting in a chair that I liked to lean back in. As I leaned back in the chair, I must've leaned a little too hard because I, all of a sudden, fell backwards and couldn't stop myself from it happening. My head hit the metal seam in between the capret and the tile. When my mom heard my crying, she rushed there, did a full check around my head, but strangely couldn't find any blood or cut, which was odd to her. That night, she was giving me a bath and was washing my hair when she found dry blood throughout it. As my siblings went to bed, I got to stay up until my dad came home and he took me to the ER to get 4 staples in my head. The funny part is when I was getting the staples, the doctors said they'd need to hold me down so I don't squirm/try to run away, but according to my dad, cause I have no memory of this, I just sat there calm and as they put the staples in my head, my reaction was just like annoyed instead of in pain or anything 😂😂😂

When I was a teenager, I used to make a lot of jewelry, and I accidentally dropped a pair of needle nose pliers on my foot, and they landed point down, specifically on one point. It only looked like a tiny, half moon cut, but it went fairly deep, started bleeding, and swelling up. I kinda limped out of my room to the kitchen, passed my family who were watching a movie, didn’t say anything for some reason, got some paper towels and limped back to the bathroom and rinsed and dabbed it off in the bathtub, by now it was quite swollen, and put a bandaid on and went about my day.

After about 10 hours and a few thousand pieces i was about to go home and on one of the last pieces I put the edge to the belt sander and it shot it out of my hand and spun my wrist. My middle finger knuckle came to brief contact with the belt sander and took a bit of flesh with it. My knuckle was fine thankfully, so i just washed it out, waited for the bleeding to stop and finished my shift. Lol i still have a bump where the divit used to be.

As a heavy-duty mechanic in the oil field I've had to deal with a few injuries where I would just walk it off. Two of the worst, though, once I was cleaning a stainless steel plate and my hand slipped off the cloth I was using and I gashed open my thumb, it was definitely bad enough I should have gotten stitches, it took a LONG time to stop bleeding and I was sweating quite bad and was nauseous, but I just held it tight with some paper towel and powered through. The second one was, I was installing a 100 lbs fluid transfer pump on a big rig by my self, I managed to get the pump into the housing box somewhat just fine, when I started moving the pump to line it up and adjust its position my hand got caught underneath the pump being pinched on the edge of the box, it was another cut like the first but also felt like my knuckle caught have been damaged, being young and dumb I walked that one off to, nearly 10 years later I still have that scar to remind me of how dumb I was (who am I kidding? I still am that dumb)

But this time it didn’t turn off fast enough and it sliced pretty good into my right forefinger. I’m so lucky I was wearing leather gardening gloves. The blade cut through it and I needed 4 stitches. I shudder to think how much worse it would have been without the gloves! 😮

I am hypermobile, I sublux and dislocate a lot and I nearly always pop it back into place in a few seconds. I'd never let someone else walk around with a dislocated joint or not have it checked out by a professional but when it's me I just shake until it's back into place. Part of my hypermoblility is that my muscles are a bit looser than they're supposed to be so things pop out of place quicker but they also pop back with little to no pain and effort. Always makes people look at you weird if you do it in front of them.

ive actually got two stories. mostly because im stubborn and pretty dumb about my health lol. one i was grilling and my hamburger patties were froze together sooooo, my genius idea was grab a steak knife and cut them apart while holding them. obviously when it went through it kept going and cut pretty deep into my hand i just threw salt on it washed it out and then bandaged it up. second story i used to unload trucks for a factory the line malfunctioned so we were stacking boxes weighing over 50 lbs over our heads which is a big no no. i heard a loud crack in my shoulder and couldn't move it without being in extreme pain. i either pulled something or a bone shifted out of place, didn't go to the doctor then which i should've. i tried to go 2 years ago but the nurse laughed at me saying i was too young to have any real damage and noone even looked at it or referred me. Now im trying to find a doctor that will actually look at it so i know what happened. lesson is dont be dumb lift with your knees and if something cracks and hurts, you might wanna go to the hospital.

Super glue is an artist's best friend for multiple reasons! While at university I was running to a painting class and fell going UP the stairs. I didn't realize for a good minute that I had sliced my dominant hand open on something. I cupped my injured hand with the other but still left a little trail all the way to the fourth floor studio (it's probably still there) where my friend took my backpack so I could run to the bathroom and put my skin back in place. There were only tiny bandaids available so I, too, used super glue! And then I proceeded to painfully paint for the next three hours.👍

I honestly have a couple that spring to mind. But let's go with the steam burn I got on my fingers while cooking. I lift back a make shift lid to check on the food and I get 1degree, 2 degree, and 3 degree burns on my three fingers (pointer to middle). I just run it under cool water, put neosporian on it, wrap it with toilet paper, and tape it with blue tape (cause that's all I had). Through out the day it would "burn" so I ran it under water then redid my toilet paper/tape bandage, and at night I slept with my hand in a cup of water. Looking back I am surprised I didn't spill the cup or pee myself 😅. All the time my roommate is screaming at me to go to the urgent care on campus. My Jewelry Making Teacher was like "OMG did that happen here!?", and then quickly calmed down when I said it was a cooking accident. But yep, after a few weeks doing that, no infections, no scar, all good. 😂 My roommate was happily annoyed.

My injury was from when I used to play rugby and my kneecap got dislocated and one of my teammates popped it back in place on the field. It got taped up.

Yeah I totally feel that kinda stupidity😅. I once climbed on a tree trop, slipped fell and would've landed straight on my head if my feet hadn't caught on some thick lower branges that stopped my fall, with head dangling just centimeters above the ground. (Still really hurt tho) And on another occasion I was visiting a landmark of the town I lived in, that was on top of a big woodland hill. And on the way down I thought it'd be faster and more fun to stray from the path and just go straight down. In this situation every person with just a little common sense would've climbed down slow and carefully, but not this girl!... I thought it'd be fun to basically run down the steep, unstable hillside. I did fearly well for a while, but then got caught on some tiny root, slipped and just rolled down the hillside, ripping my shoulders open after hitting a tree on the way down.

They literally use superglue in hospitals to close up wounds not easy or suitable to stitch and I have some of the tiny single use superglues in my camping first aid kit that's designed for backwoods survival, so see nothing wrong with this. As long as it's cleaned properly and monitored, then it's as effective as anything else.

That's what superglue was invented for! Also craft knives are dangerous, one of my friends took off his fingertip with one in school!

I had a cut on the outside of my thumb knuckle that would not heal and I had left it too long to get stitches (3 days or so). I did the old super glue trick and it worked a treat for me too

Mine's not that exciting (as in what happened to me), but hubby fell down a man hole whilst at work, came home covered in blood & a gash down his thigh. Cleaned it up, he said it was fine & we left it. He now has quite a large scar that we laugh about every so often. In hindsight, I'm surprised the company he was working for didn't insist on his going to hospital (I know he would have brushed it off himself, but any decent company would have made sure he was ok)

I use steri-strips far too often for slips with the knife… too many to keep track of. But the last one, I knocked a cup, that knocked something… eventually it hit a knife, that fell to the floor and cut my toes… I was so lucky… I didn’t realise anything had happened until I wondered why the floor was wet. Steri-strips, clean the floor and back to life!

I have had a few over the years, but I think the worst was last year when mountain biking and came off and hurt my ribs…so, I got on the bike, finished pedalling down the mountain, drove home then spent the next month sleeping in a chair, cause I couldn’t lay down…figured after the first week that I had probably broke a rib, but it got better!

When I was child I was rollerblading with friends and lost control down a steep hill. I knew I scraped myself good but when I went home it didn’t see too much and it didn’t hurt too bad so I just went right back to rollerblading. Turns out I had scraped up my entire thigh

About 7-8 years ago I was doing a farm tour for a preschool class (at the time we had alpacas, goats, chickens, turkeys & ducks so fun tour for kids), there was a piece of metal corrugated barn siding on the ground. I knew it was there and purposely kept the kids away from it. But then I proceeded to step back and slice my ankle open on it. Looked down said “ow, uhhh, ummm. Miss Preschool teacher lady, you guys just stay here and pet the goats, I’ll be right back I need a bandaid (as blood is running down into my shoe!) Went inside did a quick wash and bandaid, went back out and finished the tour and craft project with the kids. After they left I took a better look, did a better clean on it, and put steri-strips over it (they’re kind of like sticky tape that act like stitches). A week or so later it was just fine, still have a little scar and a fun story to tell! 😁
I CAN'T make what I WANT. Here's why...
