It isn't greedy to eat until you're full, but it's greedy to be like the people from The Capitol from the hunger games and make themselves vomit so they can eat even more. I don't really believe that 6 year olds can have problems like that spontaneously, did someone tell you to think the way you did back then? Whoever they are, they sound nasty as hell.

That is something I've realised in my years maturing and filling my shoes, and although every now and again I feel that deep discomfort associated with 'want' I am able to ignore it. As for who told me to do so... No one, I don't think. My parents always maintained that if I asked for something reasonable, it would be given to me in due time. (And they lived up to this every time). I actually suspect this to be a part of my OCD, which I've had pretty much my whole life. It feels rather similar to a compulsion. But the opposite of doing something? A repulsion, perhaps.
