You are far more committed I am. I rammed my head into a wall trying to kill my first minor boss level 1 then realised... I haven't unlocked leveling yet... OH LORD WHAT IF I KILL THE BOSS AND LOSE ALL MY RUNES TO A RANDOM MOOK. I then left like a coward unlocked leveling put a sad 2 levels in vigor before resuming the pain.

I suck at Souls type games, so this speaks to me. Souls games just feel so different from anything else I've played. The closest thing to Elden Ring I've tried is Code Vein, and in that game you can cheese it with the power of blood and anime.

I tried DS3 first and couldn't get into it, then I tried Code Vein and I loved it because I'm all for anime jrpg storytelling. After that I thought "maybe I can like souls games!" and I went back to DS3, and context is that Code Vein has a minimap while DS3 does not, so my brain couldn't get used to it and I dropped DS3 again. Finally got back to DS3 like a year later but still haven't finished it lol

I think people over hype how hard Souls games are. They don't require more skill than other 3rd person actions games they just require more patience. You aren't evenly matched with your opponents you are a lowly scrub among gods so you need to be prepared to dodge and run while you wait for your opening to get a single hit. This is the reason I don't find the boss battles to be fun in these games. Which is odd because thats basicslly how Mega Man games work and I love those.

@@synbiosblade Yeah, it might require a change of my perspective. I've also played Monster Hunter, another game known for difficulty. However in MH you are playing as a superhuman Hunter that has the strength to go toe to toe with monsters. YOU are the hunter and the giant dragons are but prey. In Souls games that's not the case, and my approach ought to change.

@@synbiosblade Well in Elden Ring from my experience some bosses clearly aren't fair for dodging to work. Like they have moves that auto lock so even if you dodged them they still hit you anyway. Then there's moves you thought would hit and they don't. Some bosses don't have any consistency like the shitty cat gargoyle things.

More or less, there’s nothing to get excited about. All new characters are mid at best, purposely nerfed in some mechanic to make them “balanced” but they just end up quirky and weird to use in very specific comps which normally require another limited 5 star lol. So yeah, especially with Yae Miko recently, game’s pretty much dead for a lot of people. Can’t keep hyping up well designed characters only for them to never be a good option for strong abyss teams.
