Such an interesting perspective on life at 30! I think one thing I would say is in regards to getting older and not having as much fun, I agree that usually this is not the case for many people. However, as someone living with cystic fibrosis (chronic lung condition) it's hard to have that same mentality because there is no cure and as we get older with cf, our health and our lungs start to deteriorate. Some people end up having lung transplants and even then it's not a cure! So it feels to me that there's a lot of pressure to take advantage of my health now and do as much as I can, before I start to decline. And that's really hard to deal with mentally, especially as someone living with social anxiety and dealing with chronic loneliness too... I don't have any real life friends to have experiences with and I'm 26. It's heartbreaking. Christ, that turned into a therapy session there!! 😂😂Doubt any one will read it anyway, but just thought I'd add another perspective to that particular thought and hopefully raise awareness for what some people with a chronic condition and a life expectancy might be going through! Anyway! Loved the video Evan, really appreciate your honesty and the things you've learnt. Oh and happy (belated!) birthday !!

Everything I've done has given me a experience that no one else could ever relate to. That's pretty much how I felt when I turned 20! Now I'm 21 and it's not so weird or scary anymore. It's still a bit strange to think about sometimes, but I don't feel too separated from the teens or anything, it feels like this happy but vaguely weird middle ground between being a teen and being a "proper adult". It's a good age in its own way. It's kinda similar to turning 18 really; at that age it's weird because you're an adult now but also a teen at the same time, but you also don't really feel like an adult yet even though you are. It's like, turning 18: the sequel. The funniest thing for me is just that I don't really look any different than I did at 15, so I'm just this tiny baby-faced 21 year old haha. :'D

Like, yes I'm 20 but that has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of experience and/or wisdom I have in this particular field. 20 is barely a legal adult! I didn't spend my 20th birthday being granted the wisdom of the entire universe and also given a copy of the highway code. I spent it eating so many chocolate chip pancakes I felt sick afterwards, and then watching a lot of TV while playing a jigsaw app on my tablet.

The more I learn about GCSEs my empathy goes up for all y'all. Yes we have SATs and ACTs but 1: they are optional. If you're not going to Uni you don't have to take them. And 2: We have a choice between 2 tests. The ACTs test you in 3 subjects (English, Math, Science...I think) the SATs test you in 2 subjects (English & Math). I chose ACTs because I'm rubbish at math and didn't want it to be 50% of my assessment and for some reason I always test well in science.

I'm 26 and still trying to work things out. I do some what see where you are coming from. I've had a small taste of that feeling of being happy where my life was. I have a degree under my belt and last year I went on a big adventure where I moved to a different country for while, had a amazing job and lived independently away from home for the first time. But now that contract ended, I'm living at home with my parents again (who I love dearly and am very grateful for). Lately I've felt like I'm stuck in a rut, especially with thing going on right now. However I am looking forward to finding my way on a new adventure again and hopefully move out permanently when I find a job. I don't normally comment but there is something about your videos that I just relate to. Thank you for sharing this with us Even. It makes me feel hopeful for the future.

Ah it's like I /know/ these things, but it's always reassuring to hear other people say it too lol -- Society puts so much pressure on mile markers in life (some of which aren't even my personal aspirations) so I always feel like I'm grating up against things?? If that makes sense -- like I pushing back against "oh you should have xyz done by such and such age" and it's mentally and emotionally taxing sometimes. I'm 24 and even looking at other people my age or a year or two older who are so much closer career wise to what I want to be doing makes me feels a little bonkers and it's not quite as simple as getting a different job to feel "unstuck" but !! hopefully I'll get closer to what I want and need soon. Thanks for the video evan!

Great message, Evan. This couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. I’m turning 27 in 2 days & was internally freaking out because my life doesn’t look like what I imagined my 27 year old self to be. But watching your video eased my anxiety & reminded me that as long as you’re moving forward - no matter the pace - then that’s all that matters. Great video as always! And happy belated birthday.

I stopped and realised how much I’ve changed for the better since my early 20’s though, il be 33 in a couple of months and honestly I’ve never been happier doing what I want and how I want, not caring what anyone thinks. I’m a 23 year old extrovert, and I’ve started to notice a desire for fewer stronger bonds vs many casual friends. So I’m glad to know that’s a natural progression of growing up because I often feel guilty about the people I only see once a year. The part of your video that hit me the hardest was when you talked about needing less validation. I’m not quite there yet, but I’m working on it. Hopefully by 30 I’ll have that one figured out!

Lewis Hopping do you get energy from being with people (extrovert)? Or are you like a battery that recharges when youre alone, and drains with people (introvert)? Like i LOVE people, but i really will hate everyone and everything around me after like 5 hours of hanging out, or if i socialize two days in a row. Doesnt matter who it is. Need to be left alone to be able to be human again. Nobody else can define this for you tho. You may be an outgoing introvert, or an ingoing extrovert... dont box yourself. Im an outgoing introvert - im an introvert, but when i am at a party or gathering, im so loud and im on the dance floor not caring who sees etc. Also, you could be an ambivert. But yeah you have to define it for yourself. ❣️
@really-quite-exhausted4 жыл бұрын
@Lewis Hopping My whole life I thought I was an introvert, and then I started uni and spent 2 years confused, having "magically discovered" I was actually an extrovert who had been lying to themselves for 18 years. Turns out I was just really depressed and had been spending a lot of time with other people because then I wasn't alone with my thoughts all the time, but I hadn't paid attention to how draining it was for me. Now I'm doing a little better and am proud to say that I am actually an introvert, just like I had originally thought. (I think categorising people this way can lead to oversimplification but the framework is useful so I use it for myself)

I think the "go do fun stuff while you're young" comes from parents that kinda lost themselves when the kids entered their life. If you are very self-conscious etc. you can of course still do fun stuff every year, even as a parent, but early parents probably just forget about that for a few years.

Im 25 and greatly appreciate this video. As a teen I didn’t take school seriously and as an adult I obviously regret that. But I realized a couple weeks ago that this was a mistake I could still fix and decided to start taking tutoring sessions. It has greatly increased my confidence and just reminded me that I could still learn new things! I am now about to have an apartment on my own and I’m absolutely terrified but also thrilled. And as Evan mentioned in the video I am also realizing that I prefer smaller circle friends. Don’t keep people in your life that aren’t giving as much to you as you are to them, thats what i am learning anyway.

i really felt the bit about preferring smaller groups of friends. i spent so much time as a teenager trying to have more friends & spend more time in large groups because peoples presence made me feel validated in that this many people actually wanted to be around me. but as i’m getting close to 20 (as well as reflecting on some pretty horrible experiences with large groups that pretended to like me & whatnot), i’m more at peace with my much smaller group of friends that genuinely trust each other & keep each other in check when we need it.

I’m from Australia and here we have a weird schooling system where basically year 11 only goes for three terms and then the last one of the year is the start of year 12. I remember at the end of year 10 last year i was so scared of starting my senior years, but i was also excited to start what i thought what going to be a very long journey. But... i have only a few weeks left of year 11 and then im in my last year of high school. And i pretty much only just turned 16. I didn’t realise exactly how much i would grow up this year, if that makes sense. And i didn’t realise how close i truely am to being an adult. But I have never been so beyond excited to start my adulthood. I want to travel. I want to meet new people and have friends from all over the world. I want to learn new languages. I want to go out to the city with my friends and just explore the world with everyone i love in my own way. I want to build a career, too. I really want to explore my passions as well and just ah! Im so excited to live life by my own choices without someone setting out a list of options for me to choose from.
