For big Ai you can use Mammoths, Rhinos and other Ai dragons. Make everything feel as impactful as possible. For example: You should feel the weight of the creatures. Trees should be breaking when you are big enough and walk through them. Bushes, leaves, trees should bend in a direction when landing due to wing or walking through them. Roars should also have an impact on the environment. Even though it takes longer choose quality over quantity to make the gameplay crisp. Interaction with the environment could be very important. Something that would be funny in this case is building. You can knock down a tree and build yourself a layer in which you can rest in and maybe also nest. You can eventually adapt more features to building layers like creating your own hunting ground in that zone. It will be known to players that these are your grounds and the owner will be buffed in that area, as your dragon is familiar with it. Of course it can be contested. To stand out from other survival games you can add game modes that encourages realism over the mess we have in current survival games. Things like a „body down rule“ where you have I frames and are in a passive mode in the body’s area. When somebody contest the body you can leave or accept. This should be entirly optional for server owners. Eventually what can also work is you can only fight 1 group of player at a time to prevent mass teaming and have a anti-team system. You can still do 2 v 1 or bigger as long as you are grouped up and you are unable to leave group when in combat. Add combat timer for it, when roughly 5 min pass by you are out of combat or until your enemy is defeated.

i agree as well. if you heard of draconia, its another dragon game with really promising graphics, models, and animations but i think the gameplay aspect is very lacking. i dont find myself playing for long after the magic of customizing your dragon wears off because its just really boring

For dragon designs I think you should focus on the more unique builds dragons have, like amphitears and Basilisks. In fact you could have one of each type of dragon before creating more of the same type

Yeah! So like the generic four-legged two winged dragon, sometimes called the European Dragon (although there were a lot of other dragons in Europe, so, it's kinda confusing) Wyvern dragon is already something here, so you can cross that off your bucket list. Drakes (or just four leggs wingless dragons) Long/Lung (Eastern Dragons, or four-multi legged wingless serpent dragons with dog-like faces) Yinlong (Like an Eastern Dragon but with feathered wings) Wyrm (Serpent dragons with no limbs or wings) The Amphithere and Basilisk/Cockatrice you've already brought up Knucker (which was like the Eastern Dragons but less mammal like, and just had a long serpent body with bat-like wings) Hydra (classic Hydra, multi-headed dragon with a questionable number of limbs. You can make it a serpent or a quadruped, doesn't really matter too much) Zmey (Which is like the Hydra but had wings, and I believe it was confirmed to have four legs, but you may wanna google for yourself) Lindworm (Had two forearms but no legs or wings, and was serpent like) Fae/Pyrausta (I believe these were both more recent creations, but when I tried doing research on their history there wasn't a lot to go off of anyways. Basically the European Dragon but with insectoid characteristics, more notably the four bug wings) And there is one people in the DnD community call a Salamander, but when I looked up multi-legged dragons I got a different dragon result, and a Mythological Salamander is a lot different than the DnD Salamander. Basically a multi-legged Drake. There's also the Zilant, which is basically a Wyvern, but instead of having back legs and wing arms, it has forearms and wings with no legs. So like a winged Lindworm. Woah woah woah!!! DUDE? This is amazing! So exciting! Realistic too? Don't get me wrong, Wings of Dawn is amazing, but a bit far from realistic. Super cool idea to see dragons as realistically as dinosaurs. I was thinking, if you do want it realistic, you may want completely unique creatures, perhaps on a planet with multiple moons or a different colored sun / plants. For our yellow/orange sun, plants use red and blue light for photosynthesis and reflect green, so they look green to us. If our planet had a blue sun, our plants would look red / yellow / purple! This may be very far fetched, but for a planet that evolved to satisfy dragons, would need less gravity, and more oxygen to host larger creatures, that's why insects were so large during the dinosaur age! From this description, creatures would be massive with long legs, due to low gravity and high oxygen, with lightweight frames or exoskeletons. Insects could grow to enormous sizes, and flying animals would be large and efficient, adapted to the planet’s unique conditions. Many might have reflective or metallic features to handle the strong radiation! Of course, this is a LOT and is not at all necessary, I just take any opportunity to boast about this, I do not hold any of these as expectations, i'm just a simple nerd.

I think for the dragon designs that you should stick closely to their mythological counterpart, while still giving them a little something unique. For example, the Asian dragon could be a semi-aquatic species with some electrical powers. I also think that the dragon design should feel more grounded and realistic. In fact, I think that you should definitely lean more into the realism side of things in order to make the game stand out from other more fantastical titles, though these are all only my opinions and you can and should do whatever you can to make this game how you feel it should be.

I'm not a game designer, so I don't have a lot of advice to give on actual game design elements, but I am a creature modeler, so I can give a bit of advice regarding your current character model! I would reference how other winged animals walk on the ground, specifically bats and pterosaurs. A dragon has wings like a bat, so it stands to reason that it would fold them in the same way: curling the fingers into a fist and holding them close to the forearm. As it currently is, it looks rather bulky and clumsy. I'd also increase the size of the wings somewhat drastically, so it looks as though they could actually produce enough lift for the dragon to fly (since it's so large). The stance is also a little wide for such a large creature. Big animals need to place their limbs below their bodies in order to save energy when walking. Good luck on your project!

I would like 2 things to add. 1 : I think it would be better if some Humans Survived ( the war ? ), maybe some camps you can hunt down or just teases that humans hide/fled and could return. I think it gives the world a more lived in feeling and there is still hope left. Maybe this idea comes a bit to soon, but you could have a expansion or a sequel where men fight alongside dragons (dragonrider), and return. 2 : I think a core mechanic in a survival Game should be housing/crafting, as as dragon a bit difficult but the dragon could/should take caves (maybe dig them ?) as horts. I mean a place to sleep, hoard your prey or gold ( Dragons love gold, maybe they gain mana or something from it, for more breath abilities or just to grow faster)

(Sorry for such a long post, it turned out longer than I meant it to be lol) As someone who kickstarter backed DoD (Day of Dragons) roughly 6 years ago, I really appreciated the open floor plan you are showing in this video. Not every little secret is exposed ofc but its so nice to see essentially a pipeline plan so early in development. I agree with other people in this comment sections, if this is to be a more medieval setting then taking inspiration from not just media and tabletop games like D&D but folklore would be a nice touch. Keeping it realistic is good but have that flair of mystical and awe inspiring fantasy that draws us back to the game. You can include real animals but keep in mind we are playing as mystical catastrophically dangerous creatures, that can fly, who have bested humans in your setting. And by all means create your own creature (especially in the air) to combat a full grown adult dragon. You can have these creatures be sparing in spawn rate, but something an adult dragon would have to be prepared to fight. Ex: For a more high fantasy setting some magical creation/abomination that humans mages created to combat larger dragons. Or simple Manticores, Chimeras or Rocs that have been growing in population due to the fall humans. Of my experience as a long time player of DoD there are currently multiple problems with the game. I like the concept, however it is currently not up to my expectations for the amount of years I have spent waiting for simple implementations and optimizations of basic game play. I currently only occasionally play it because of the people I have met and made connections with while playing. As AI and adequate food is far and few, optimization is subpar, and months in advance promised bug fixes, deadlines are being constantly pushed back so regularly they stopped giving out deadlines, and I stopped getting excited for new updates or additions that just enviably get delayed again. So hearing you say you are focusing mostly on the core mechanics and already have another coder to help you is music to my ears. Keep in mind though I am mostly a PVE player I am a long time survival player. I would say the best thing to have is a living breathing ecosystem and interactable world to immerse your players into as it makes gameplay 100% more enjoyable in survival games. If you put aside PVP and there is nothing for your players to do or even have enjoyable challenging hunts as you grow then it turns into essentially a waiting simulator that at some point a majority are not going to want to continue to play. Give us challenges and something to build up to or conquer. And please give people the option to enjoy the game as just PVE, or even PVX with some PVP zones at least. As with what I experienced there are a lot more PVE players at all times of the day. I am looking forward to seeing more of what you come up with ^^

2 ideas that you might like. Maybe certain dragons like for example western fire dragons require certain minerals in their diet to produce their fire attacks. This would establish key resource areas were different players might interact and battle over. Also what if you could use the home cave system from path of Titans to make your own cave and make your own horde. Say you get a trophy for killing another dragon or there are shiny gems or gold in human ruins that you find, you can use them to decorate your home cave/horde.

Tho maybe to stand out from other dragon game maybe... - kill animations on human npcs unique to dragon type and to burn armies/knights/villages/kingdoms down! -able to do dueling aerial combat like eagles do -if players opt to play as humans can make dragon and rider bonds! -if playing humans you can build castles and make your own kingdom or forge alliances -players can choose to be prey animals for dragons to make hunting more interactive! -predation on other dragons -roars have buffs or a skill trees maybe 3 per dragon: defense, attack, magic(?) -ability to make custom servers and edit the host of the server can edit terrain -options for permanent death for a server to get the immersion in - there is usually health, stamina, and hunger/thirst but what if you added a mineral intake meter? Where if you're low on say fire salts (a fake mineral for place holder) the fire breath does less damage and the less fire salts you have eaten eventually you can't breathe fire until you get more! The more flame breath you use the less fire salts you have -legacy option: if your dragon dies and it has offspring that's an npc you can take over as it upon death! -Rage Meter: if activated the more damage a dragon takes the stronger their fire breath is at the cost of getting penalties to hunger and fire salt meter! -night and day cycles but maybe weather dynamics! Imagine a meteor shower at night or a hurricane during the day! -discovery of ancient ruins indicating to background lore and within these ruins are things to give skill points or unique colors to your dragon when you go to edit them! -horns. Lots. Of horns. Yes. Also maybe a feathery wings type selection? Like Saphira from the Eragon movie. I loved the feathery scales! -scale shape customization -Fire. Ice. Lightning. Poison. Venom. Maybe those are elemtal types dragons can have and do a gambling system to see if one spawns in with two or one breath types? Certain dragon species are weak against certain types of breath attacks!(venom would come in for biting or slapping with spiked tails hehe) -ambushing mechanics -creating draconian layers or areas on the map meant for dragons to roost! -collecting treasure and gemstones is how you get exp besides combat. Yoy can steal from other dragons hoards if they have a set den! Challenging other dragons for their hoards. So much possibilities! Hence why itd ne a good idea for a dragon to work for a kingdom and get tribute. Or will a dragon subjugate a kingdom to be their god? -life stages. Egg,hatchling, wrymling, fledgling, mature, prime, ancient, great wyrm Each stage has its own unique buffs or debuffs! -if more fantasy route a player who reaches past great wyrm stage can retire their character to be a permanent npc on a server or can keep playing but they become an undead dragon ! Or they can choose to have their dragon pass on to the after life and start anew - humans can take scales from dragons and make armor or bones for weapons that have magical effects -a fun quest to kidnap a prince or princess -different stances and/or calls to indicate intent like agression or peaceful for example These are some ideas ❤ whatever you make for this game regardless I'm for sure invested !🎉

I think one really cool game mechanic I would like to see in this type of game, where you are in the skin of an animal, is claiming territory. It kind of is the animal version of a base, like a part of the progression where you can determine your territory in a very organic way. You have to roar a certain number of times in a region to let other creatures know that you are taking this place. If it already belongs to someone, you have to fight for the place. It would be cool if you never really see the boundaries of the territory traced on the map-you just know that this area belongs to you. Then other AI can provoke you and pick fights over your domain by entering it. When you are at the kid stage, you can only have a little part of the forest, and when you are big enough to fly fast, you can maintain bigger and bigger terrains, like mountains and forests. The bigger it is, the more advantages you have in terms of reproduction, food, and stuff. Imagine you can be a dragon that claims a castle and you fight for it-it would be so cool. I feel there could be so many things to do with such a mechanism. What happens if you accidentally burn the place you live? What happens if you lose your territory? How can it grow, and how can it decrease in size? How do you maintain it? Which creatures are scared and don’t dare enter, and which don’t care? When you change regions, how long does it take for other animals to understand that you left and to come back, etc.

Making a dragon game can be interesting if you are willing to do some research on the different cultures versions of dragons. many may be more snake-like, such as the south American Feathered serpent, or the dragons from the Vikings were they tended either to be giant sea serpents or poisonous dragons ( such as Fafnir, Nidhogg , and Jormungandr) instead of fire breathing ones. We have sesha of Hindu mythology which looked like a multiheaded cobra. In ancient egypt, both apep and ammut which by some are considered certain kinds of dragons. In ancient greece, creatures like the hydra, the winged dragons of Helios, Landon, The Gigantomachian Dragon and python. Ladon had an interesting design as well, having a snake like body, two arm like wings like a bird and a more crocodilian skull. I think it's a lack of imagination that makes us go the normal european dragon route (often just adding different colors to the dragons).

In terms of dragon design, using the classic types of dragon everyone is familiar with is good, but each should still have something unique to set them apart. Roster is make or break for these types of games, so having visual/playstyle hooks is paramount. Give players, that would otherwise be mildly interested, a reason to "main" each one.

I think you should have a mix of reality and fantasy. Or in other words "real fantasy". Take inspiration from real world medieval folklore like cryptids. For example: dragons, krakens, basilisks, cockatrice, hydra, unicorn, pegasus, cyclops, ogres, trolls, goblins, leviathans, golems, sea serpents, minotaurs, wyverns, wyrms, gorgons, ghosts, gargoyles, giants, goliaths, automatons, centaurs, pheonixes and many more things that would fit in with dragons. You dont have to invent new creatures like the ones in day of dragons for example because this game is taking place on earth. Imagine this: what if all the medieval tales of fantastical beasts were real? Remember: Making a videogame is one of the hardest things you can do with a computer. So dont be too sad if the project crashes and burns. Ill be here supporting you anyway.

For your NPC questions, I do think ice age mammals like Irish elk, aurochs, steppe bison, cave and short-faced bears, Siberian unicorns, and cave hyenas should be included. Modern animals like red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, moose, wisents, feral cattle, feral horses, wolves, hogs, brown bears, and saiga antelope would also make good additions. In addition to these, mythical creatures like griffins, unicorns, behemoths, lake monsters, sea monsters, chimeras, phoenixes, gargoyles, black hounds, and kelpies would be cool as well. Overall though, it looks pretty good for only being in development for a week! Keep it up, I’m sure you’ll make it very well.

for a good inspiration of a nice physx-based and organic flight-system maybe take a look at dragon game project. they got the right idea when it comes to it on a functional level. also please do NOT let people spawn in an egg and start initially as a hatchling. one should only be hatchling if they are getting nested by another player. it just makes more sense this way since then that player has parents to watch out for them but to spawn as something dependant on a caretaker without actually having one is an extraordinary exhausting type of experience and people up to this day hate that stuff on DoD. the idea control-wise to basically W= Nose down, S= Nose up, D= Roll right, A= Roll left, F = Takeoff, Space (in flight)= Airbrakes, LShift= Flapping (acceleration) as DoD somewhat has it is pretty good. hard to learn in the beginning but once someone has the hang of it its really fun like this. please dont bring in an elder-system like DoD has it. just let an adult slowly become an elder for living long enough. also please look into flight-properties and differences between smaller and larger dragons since its gonna be important to make aerial combat deep enough to require skill and strategy. for example: smaller dragons accelerating faster yet having less topspeed, less acceleration through diving aswell as faster braking/ turning and lower maximum altitude. larger dragons therefor being able to reach higher maximum altitudes, loosing momentum slower than smaller ones, reaching higher topspeed, faster acceleration through falling, wider turns, slower braking aswell as slower acceleration through flapping. and please also make falling out of the sky HURT. a dragon smashing on the ground could potentially kill it or wound it pretty hard depending on the height, speed and the weight of the creature. got a bunch more ideas aswell going through my head but thats just some i wanted to spit out ^^

Land, air, sea 5:01 the dragons lf each type are very diverse but they are all at war. So you have basic 3 and tons of sub types. You can become a hybrid through breeding with a different kind of dragon if you get the chance. As in if the players don't try and kill each other etc.

As someone who has been obsesssed with game design for a very long time. Best of luck The first best advise is half your scope (what you want to do) and half it again. ONLY FOCUS ON THAT, and refactor (change and simplify) when nescary. The other Best advice ive seen given is focus on a primary game loop, this is going to be the most reppetitive loop in your game, if this isnt fun (not enough rewards or not enougg. Balance) your game WILL flop. As for a survival game its usually gather, return to base, build, explore with a night cycle mixed in Think submautica and minecraft. Its a dragon game so its probally mire like hunt, grow etc. but then later on its about protecting the egg you know the most important thing in your possession. Some sort of goal or base you need to return to or level up. its a dragon game your forte, idk how it would work when your technically stronger than everything else apart from dragons at the end of it and weaker than the other half of the world as young. Plz brainstorm Thirdly prioritise mechanics over athtectics. User experience over money. Build it with accesibilty features in mind. Im reallly excited to see how you aproach flight tho

What I would really like to see in a dragon game that absolutely no other game is doing, is to include all sorts of old mythical creatures that later inspired us to think of dragons. A "dragon" is not actually the clear image of a flying, fire breathing lizard, but rather a summary of every creature that could somewhat fit into the description of a dragon. So it's actually more like a category. No game I have seen to this day implemented the original "dragons" that were all sorts of monsters in folklore. Edit: Creatures that could kill dragons might also be from folklore. I think that would be quite interesting.

I think something that you should take a look at for inspiration is Dragontwin, it’s another dragon game in development which isn’t a survival game, but their take on flight and weight is something that I feel that most games lack. Concrete animations always feel so lacking, and the ‘aiming’ version where joints try to get somewhere rather than being placed there is something that is incredibly satisfying, an extreme of this is Rain World.

For the core gameplay, as the survival stage and reaching adulthood/elder is the main goal, you could make it a repeating gameplay loop if you were able to lay an egg and the final bit is to hatch it before starting over. This could also let you get new colors that weren't previously available. Maybe you'd get some other kind of bonus too for starting over with a new egg as well.

Great dragon design btw. The only critique I have is how thick the wings are in the webbing. If you can taper the thickness of the wing from the bones, making the skin thinner for a large part of the webbing, that would give it a more realistic look. If you look at the wings of bats, you will see that the webbing is very thin. But, if you also plan on giving it gliding animations, then tapering would be the better option. Giving it a bat-like appearance, but tapered like a bird's wings would give it a better, more natural look. Arching it from the front-top just a little bit, while making the underside very slightly concave would make a birdlike shape, while still maintaining the bat-like webbing. Also, a dragon with feathers... albeit not as easy to design due to feathers being more intricate, would be a great idea for a second dragon type, should you decide to make one. I have been a dragon fanatic since I was a kid... I would love to see this game come to fruition and flourish. Edit: The webbing does not look bad. I was just hinting at making it maybe half the thickness of the webbing itself. The boning is great. XD As far as attacks go, you could put your melee attacks on the L & R mouse buttons. Then use the shift key in combo with the L mouse button for your breath attack. The shift key is one of the easiest keys to hit with your pinky finger from the WASD position on the keyboard. Also Spacebar for ascent... Shift+Spacebar for descent. It makes things easier for muscle memory. That way it leaves the right hand for easy use of the mouse. Interactions like eating and drinking should be given as prompts. Food sources prompt to eat... Water to drink... The F key would be good to use for interactions hotkey. Any buffs you may add should be given the typical number keys... 1, 2, etc... As far as movement goes, A and D could be for straffing, with the mouse movement being used for changes of direction. I know this is a lot of info... I hope it helps. Also, these are merely suggestions. You can make it however you like. I would still play it. You really do have something here.

As a avid creature/dragon lover, I'm so excited to see an actual DRAGON survival game in the works that isn't some shitty mobile one. I don't do game deving or anything like that, I'm just a (not so) casual dragon fan and artist, who would definitely try this if/once it does release. Somethings I'd like to see as a player though is some fluid, natural animations for turning (both on and off ground), flight, takeoff/landing, diving, and fancy flight maneuvers like barrel rolls since so many games lack animations (mainly flight/takeoff/landing) that AREN'T extremely janky, and putting that into reality would DEFINITELY attract lots of other avid creature fans (since we're all deprived of not-janky dragon survival games/animations in this community). Also, I'm thinking some cool gameplay additions would be some sort of idle ecology animations if you AFK too long, relating to the different variations of the playable dragons, similar to Monster Hunter World, and/or the levels of hunger/sleep/thirst. Talking about dragon variations, I'm unaware and unassuming if you do hang out in the creature design/artist communities on social medias (for example Twitter), since this video recommended itself to me and I do not have any prior interaction with your content, but if you don't I would wholly recommend checking out some artists that are absolute masters on anatomy and design (amongst other art related things) of fictional creatures and dragon variations (standard western dragon, wyvern, lung dragons, etc) and implement biological aspects such as a separate orifice under the tongue or branching from the sides of the throat for the fire to emit from. But all in all, I'm just hyped for a dragon-focused, realistic survival game, I wish you good luck on your project!

I appreciate that you already have a focus on "the environment will try to kill you." I am largely a PVE over PVP player and I think there is a large group of players who would appreciate being able to opt out of PVP but retain a challenge versus the environment at every stage of life. Please consider the opt-out option! Maybe some server separation. Because your focus includes adults over 20 this will include adults who have jobs/school and maybe families. Because of this (and personal experience speaking) I think avoiding any sort of "clan" approach would be wise.. allowing solo players an environment to play on their own, hop on and off, and not feel like they gotta spend a lot of time to have a dragon that can survive would draw in a lot of people. This is to say, if players feel like they have to or can have a dedicated group system supported by the game those people with more time *will* gang up on solo players, especially if there is a system to significantly grow a dragon's power that a group could facilitate. Fun flight physics is pretty important (flying should be fun, realistic, and challenging. DoD does flight very well, for example). Large maps for large creatures, plenty of actual hiding spaces for different growth stages to have a chance against bigger things. Consider very customizable skins, especially if there is a pairing/breeding aspect introduced. Survival is the focus.. but you know we dragon lovers want some cool skins to grow into. Those are things that I can think of right now from my own experiences with survival games.. but, yeah, so far I'm very intrigued/excited! I think dragon lovers have been starved for a decent dedicated "you are the dragon" game for one reason or another. I've dreamed of my own dragon game, so it's cool to see another dragon fan actually pursue the dream from stage 1. I'm here for it!

Learn from The Isle; the map is very important. It determines a huge part of how much fun it is. It sucks when there's a huge map with 3 spots where people always gather and the rest staying basically unused. Plus the size matters too. But I guess all of that is for the playtesting stage

what i'd like to suggest as potential ideas for the game is a quest/mission system, an in-game currency and crafting system. i've been playing animal survival games such as the isle, animalia, wolfquest, etc. for years and what i find is that they can often become boring after a while because all you do is basically just eat/drink, fight, rest and repeat. with animals like dinosaurs and wolves i understand the more basic mechanics since they don't have the intelligence for more complicated things such as crafting, however with dragons you can basically make them how ever you want since there's much more freedom and creativity with dragons. adding human-like traits such as a crafting system (nothing too complicated, maybe the dragons are capable of crafting simple tools made out of wood or stone or basic huts/houses as well as decorations) adds more depth to the game as well as another thing to entertain players with. perhaps each player dragon has their own little home and they can go out in the world collecting things like stones, sticks, gems, etc. and create natural decorations to decorate their homes with, or make simple tools that can aid in fighting or hunting such as traps, or even simple armor. this also opens up opportunity to collect rare items and sell/trade them with other player dragons who are looking for specific items. there's a lot of different things you can do with this idea. another idea is farming - with the crafting system while you're out exploring you could find certain plants/bushes that hold berries and collect them then bring them back to your home and start a little farm. the berries/plants that grow and once harvested could provide certain benefits such as maybe once eaten it could temporarily give your dragon a small boost in health or damage if you're about to go into battle or increase the dragons stats (if there's going to be stats) or they could be just purely be for cosmetic purposes like maybe a certain berry makes a dragon have a cool glow or shimmer effect when eaten. there could even be a berry/plant that helps with nesting/breeding, that can help quicken eggs to hatch or slightly increase chance of special mutations or colors. quest/missions would also be something fun to add and add another incentive for players to complete goals and feel accomplished. it could be simple things like you're tasked by an NPC to deliver a certain item to another NPC, hunt/defeat a certain creature, gather a certain number of items, craft a specific item, etc. which will earn you in-currency which could be used for buying special skins/colors for your dragon, accessories/armor for your dragon, items to boost stats/abilities, buying crafting items or food if you don't want to go out and harvest it yourself, etc. basically i think making the dragons more intelligent on a human level which enables them to do more complicated things like craft/farm or even form little villages would make the game much more interesting and fun to play rather than making them simple minded and the game ending up just another walking/eating simulator. of course i don't expect the dragons to be making extravagant cities or anything, just a basic level of crafting/farming/construction knowledge, if there's going to be lore in-game maybe the dragons learned from the humans. with the AI/NPC creatures i think adding more mythical creatures to the game would be interesting than just adding something plain like horses, rabbits, etc. since dragons are already mythical adding extra creatures to hunt/fight would be interesting. an example would be a huntable AI unicorn or jackalope, although i guess this depends on how magical you want the game to be or if you want to keep it more realistic.

@ it’s like a survival/warfare sort of game. 2 humans and 5 animals work together to survive and fight against other groups. 1 human is a doctor who will provide medicine and take care of injured player who are hurt in combat or from the environment. The other human participates in combat or farming resources. The 5 animals are each different sizes ranging from small to large. Large animals are able to carry wagons that will be able to hold resources, weapons and ammunition for when a fight breaks out. Small animals can chew holes in forts and steal resources and use tiny weapons that do a tiny bit of damage. There will be a jungle, grassland, arctic, and forest biome in a map each housing different diets and resources. You will be able to place down booby traps and defenses to protect your base. Armor customization will be a thing. There’s a lot more but I gtg to work lol. Diets will very depending on the species. It’s gonna be sort of like the isle but more in depth for instance to get max stats you need to get all vitamins and minerals. The doctor role is going to be pretty in depth, certain disease require a certain medication. Whoever’s the doctor will also do a little bit of surgery, sort of like a surgery simulator. But with all this in mind I’m going to release a demo that’s as basic as the isle legacy.

My consistent main problem with dragon games is the fact that you never feel like you're a giant walking flame thrower. The fire always either looks like Minecraft particle effects or a static 3d model. So you can imagine the joy on my fucking face when i saw the fire in this. You my friend earned a subscription

Some swamp like environment or something coastal/ oceany with matching creatures would also be nice. Happy to see all sorts of different dragons! Maybe Quetzalcoatl too? Or drakes, lindworms, serpents and amphitere? Maybe different (breath) weapons than just a firebreath with some of these would be cool. Also yes, other fantasy creatures!!! It would be nice to explore new creatures, too. I feel it would be more colourful, especially if you could interact with some of them on some level. Also different bosses than just dragons might be an idea? Like a thunderbird? But so far cool concept. Sounds like you plan for there to be a lot to explore which is great!!!

Sounds super cool! please include dragon variants such a wyrms and drakes, with different trophic levels(tiers) of payables with a functioning ecosystem ( what the isle wants to be). Might be a unique opinion, but I also think that each playable or group of playable should have a unique mechanic that effects both its pve and pvp experience, with an example being something like the Herrerasaurus from evrima and its climbing/ dive bomb

What an amazing concept! Makes me so happy to see the 'realistic' Animal Survival genre is getting more love ... and with DRAGONS! There are way too many Dinosaur Survival games, I was expecting a The Isle-ish with mythical creatures. Now I just need the same genre but with Gryphons :') I can dream!! For suggestions, I'd give extra focus on the flying mechanics. Flying in games can easily get annoying if not done right. And, for dragons, a creature that will spend most of the in the air, needs this extra care. The only game I enjoy flying in, is The Isle with Ptera since it feels like an extension of the dino instead of something you have to constantly fight with. I think giving personality to the flight would also be cool, like some dragons can hover in spot, others are faster, other glide and other could dive ... Just like different type of birds wings! That would also give an interesting fighting and fleeing mechanic, depending on the player style. In addition, people would stay off the ground for avoiding fighting, so stamina (of course) is important, but a fast consuming stamina is just so boring sometimes. Maybe doing some fun stuff to keep you on the ground? Like be careful with overeating, or you haven't eating too well, maybe your dragions needs groom itself. I know this is more for later stages of the game, for the Early Access even, but it'd be cool if dragons could have a way of communicating other than voice sounds (or chat). Like emotes (couldn't find a less goofy world for that.) This comes for someone who enjoys the scenery and the feel of the survivel more than PvP, so I don't know, depends of your focus. In general, good concept! I like lore behind the dragons and the aestethic you're choosing. Wish you the best in this new project and don't overwork yourself! Remember to hire concept artists, they're so cool when it comes to ideas! GOOD LUCK!

can always start with the base dragons and then introduce your own, as for creatures you should do both realistic and fantasy rabbits cows sheeps could be a good starting area source of food but as you get further and further beyond this area food sources for bigger dragons wait but they're not push overs.

Awesome work! many people have mentioned having humans in the game. I think it would be an interesting mechanic if eating their livestock and attacking settlements will draw the attention of knights and at worst armies with ballistas. It could be a high risk, high reward scenario or you could play stealthily, eating wild life and avoiding humans until you get bigger or entirely. Even being sighted by humans could draw aspiring knights to your region potentially forcing you to migrate.

Wow! Yeah I found this real impressive. I think that a way for you to add abilities through a skill tree or skill points, is have specific parts of the dragon increase specific attributes, for example wings would increase speed, horns could increase spell casting potency and reduce cooldowns. You said that you did not want to turn this game into an MMO or RPG, however I do think it would be interesting to unlock things like for example, spell casting, by visiting an old human library. It might also be cool if you have multiple different races or dragons that specialize in something specific. This could encourage people to unite in groups, almost similar to a dungeon crawler, and venture deeper and deeper into dungeons that you could add every once in a while. Or on the flip side, you could have a portal/rift area that cycles through different dungeons every few days. Animal simulators are cool, but very often don’t last long because the player has no goal to strive towards like in a live service, or RPG game. This is why I think it would be better to add a teamwork aspect, perhaps in the form of something like guilds, so as to encourage players to work together towards a common goal ( for example, beating a dungeon). Any who, hope all is well. And I have high expectations for Project Sky. Godspeed

Aye man a few ideas came to mind, I think that would be something to consider is kind of like the movie "How to train your Dragon", where you live in a town that isn't fond of dragons. You find an injured dragon and you nurture it back to health then it becomes loyal to you. I'm not sure how ambitious you want to be with it when it comes to developing advanced NPCs, but maybe a goal could be getting a leather working in on it to make different types of saddles and so forth. I also think you should really dive deep into the survival aspect, so it doesn't just either feel like a story game or a dragon simulator. And just for a few random ideas to consider; Dragon breeding to get certain mutations/abilities, keeping the game more realistic than fantasy, to make money for example taking your dragon out to hunt animals and bringing it back to a butcher. I could keep going on but I think something like this could be very refreshing to the community so it stands out from the few dragon games that are already out there.

I've been waiting for an open world PVE dragon game since forever ago!! I'm really excited to be seeing this happen, and I would be honored to get a link to the prototype. As for my feedback just from viewing this video, I think the AI could consist of livestock that humans used to have, such as, horse, sheep, ox/cow, and little animals. As well as some fantasy creatures with a little bit of intelligence, such as, Trolls, goblins, orcs/ogres, and other such creatures, maybe some golems as well. As for types of dragons, maybe you could have more subspecies, like Wyrms, dragons without wings, etc. I would also like to say that the flying mechanics seem a little fast, you are probably already think about it, but I would stage the speed: baby=speed1, juvenile=speed2, subadult=speed3, and so on. The speed at which you lose hunger and thirst is also quite fast. For the maps, I thought that maybe you could do them based on civilizations, so for example: Medieval England/East Europe, Medieval Asia/West Europe, Medieval Japan, Medieval Africa. That's what I can think of for now, I will join the discord when it's up and running, I hope you follow through with this game, though I'm not doing so hot with money at the moment, I will still send feedback and ideas that come up.

When it comes to dragon designs for your game, I think you should take a look at Sawyer Lee’s dragon codex. Lots of lovely Dragon designs that are realistic, unique and imaginative. Rather than going for the classic “Here’s a Wyvern, Amphitere, Drake etc” Imo a lot of dragon designs in games like these are too same-y or don’t do anything to make them look more fantastical or realistic

As someone who has only viewed the creature survival games from a distance, or known some about them through friends who have dumped 6k+ hours into them, I recently found myself binge watching Isle, BoB, and even some PoT content. I also dabbled in watching a few videos from the dragon survivals that are out there, but was sad to hear how they are rn (due to various reasons), so seeing this excites me. I really hope you are able to make something of this and I look forward to trying it one day!

I remember a few years ago, there was a dragon survival game being made by another indie dev. Long story short, it looked really promising, but it quickly devolved into the creators just taking the donation money, ending the development of the game, and then ghosting the internet. I had such high hopes for it too. Glad to see someone is picking up the idea and (hopefully) making a full fledged game out of it!

I think that you have an amazing idea and it definitely would work. Something i thought of that you could add maybe later on in the game is more winged abilities such as being able to dive down and than expand your wings to gain even more speed and greater height (inspiration from how the batman cape logic worked in the batman games where you dive and then expand the cape to get a greater height), i also thought that maybe you could add a spin that would allow the dragon to maneuver around objects such as castles and this is where you could apply all of this by creating a conquest mode where the dragon or dragons (could be multiplayer) launch an attack or siege on a castle or fort where the dragons need to burn the entire place but can be easily killed with sharp thick arrows that can pierce their chest. In this mode, the dragons would have to be much more agile and that way you can utilise the spin to protect the body or escape much faster in the clouds where the humans have no visual. Another thing that you could add is maybe a selection of dragons where in your domain/cave/whatever the home base may be is where you can change what dragon to apply, so you could have dragons that can tank more damage but are slower, you could have dragons that are faster but take more damage and have a shorter fire breath range etc. And maybe when the dragon dies there could be a token system where before fighting you can by one life token from a vendor in the mountains so that when you die, that token will activate and will bring you back to life however there should also be a birth system like you mentioned where the dragon can either lay eggs or purchase eggs so that when they die forever, you can select the next dragon to play or start as a new baby dragon and grow your way to the top. For the abilities maybe something like fireballs or snowballs depending on where the dragon came from whether it be from snowy mountains or from dark and poisonous woods which could allow for poison dragons. This is a very far-fetched ability idea but maybe electrical shocks that the dragon can launch with either the mouth or claws on its wings.

You could make the planet have a completely different atmosphere and if the gravity is low a lot of dragon designs would make more sense scientifically and because of the low gravity you could possibly have a meteor fall, the weather system could be crazy!! Well hopefully it doesn’t happen too often like maybe once every 5 times you get on the game something that happens once a month in game time, a rare event that would be really gorgeous to look at from afar but scary when you’re in it? Oh it would be super cool if you were like a Lindwurm or something if you could make a hole in the ground for nesting or even make nests inside of huge ruins!! And collecting things to make your home look different!! Also don’t feel pressured to do any of this I just think it would be cool..

for the A.I. you could definitely make spin off regular animals and make them more fantasy-esk. the designs like a rabbit for example, you can add horns or make the fur an unusual color. depending on the biome you wish to place them in you could def. come up with fantasy skin elements for them that way there is a bit of familiarity with it but could also blend into the fantacy elements of the game.

I know you probably wont see this but if you need dragon model designs i suggest looking into the dragon puppet community! People make dragon designs, (for at least the head) that you could take inspiration off of. Some other ideas is humans being added, that can ride the dragons, have plenty of free dragons as well, DOD (day of dragons) didn’t do that great on that part, and new players who may not have money or not any to spend (could be kids/teens) and then maybe gamepass ones, (for instance 5 dollars for a dragon, and perhaps ingame currency to ‘buy’ any dragons that dont use irl currency due to dragons liking treasure) you could also add many types of diets for them! Such as smaller dragons eating fish, insects, and rodents, bigger ones taking on the bigger prey such as elephants, crocodiles or whatever big animals you add to the game. You could even make it so some dragon species could steal and eat eggs! (If you add a nesting system) there should be settings as well to turn off anything that can cause motion sickness, and flashing lights (i assume fire breathing dragons could produce a decent amount of light when fighting) and so on! I wish you great luck and if i ever get the chance to play it i definitely will.

You could just have a colossal cannibal dragon that roams the map attacking any players it finds, you also might consider implementing humans(maybe playable), because small settlements with ballista or cannons may help improve gameplay variety. If people can play as humans maybe they can construct settlements or reclaim ruins and fortify them. I think that could be a good gameplay loop of the humans trying to reclaim they're place in the food chain, and the dragon obviously wanna keep them down.

If possible it would be great if you added a sense of time passing by and a sense that the players are influencing the world for example you make some human survivors that you can find in the ruins or camps in the wild and if you don’t kill them the humans will progress and make weapons/ band together. I think this would be an interesting idea for an enemy that the player decides if they want to have them or not

you could have different dragons having different kinds of statistics like wyverns being slower on the ground but way faster in the air than other draconids and dragons being an allrounder with bulk and maybe higher average damage, you could also add drakes which would be wingless dragons that cant fly but are the fastest on the ground and probably have some other gimmic like poison that doesnt allow creatures to fly or that limits movement

I think a steampunk fantasy scene would be cool, maybe areas that have more wildness themed areas with creatures you can tame to fight dragons.

Looks cool man. You could have villages with Humans, Gobblins that attack you if you get to close. You could also have different bioms on the same map. Like a volcano area where the fire dragons are born, Snow biom for ice dragons, etc. So depending on the type of dragon you choose you will be born in that particular biom. Success man !!!

Start with a simple loop, hunt, eat, grow. I think it might be better to have humans in the world later on as you can choose to avoid them, attack them or ally with them. Add in other races and factions and you have a good time.

Another very uncommon species of dragon I don’t see to often of is the Coatyl, Feydragon, Artic Dragon, and Amphiptere. It would also be nice and lore friendly if you ended up creating sub species of a species of dragon that already exists. Hopefully all goes well for you and your game! ❤

I think a cool playable design would be a quadruped hydra maybe like from the total war games. would be fairly unique as far as playables go

you could actually add dragon hunters into it that come from randomly added villages if you are up to it, however, keep them in small groups and remember to make them hunt other animals/monsters.

18:39 You know what would be cooler with the fire?.watching it charge up before firing This would also add a challenge in pvp where player have to decide that would it be better to just bite or wait to charge up their element for more damage but with the risk of getting caught offhand The animation should be something like how in monsterverse godzilla before charging up his attack,his dorsal plates light up one by one.Also imagine the feeling a little dragon would feel when facing an elder The fear of getting caught The releaf thinking that it managed to hide in the folliage Then the terror when it sees the elder charging his giga beam to obliterate the whole forest with its prey (Definately no newbie bullying,trust me😊)

I think a good thing to do would be to have several classes ranging from Large to medium to smaller dragons. Since depending on size and type it should change what they need to survive and all that. It would also be cool if you were able to choose what traits your dragon has, or stuff like whether your dragon was an herbivore or a carnivore, or even an omnivore from hatching, what their preferred habitat/temperature would be, foods that they like and dislike. If you do make the game something like that then I would personally make it so for every good trait you have to choose some sort of negative one or something like that just so it’s evened out. positive trait example; Iron stomach (Has a much lower chance to get sick from eating something odd.) negative trait example: cowardly (Get a debuff whenever fighting in a close range against an aggro character.)

Please, give some love for the flora of your game as well; from flowers to bushes, and different trees with diverse fruits, it can help you create more diverse dragons adapted to those plants and also make your world feel much more alive; even create plants adapted to survive and co-exist with your dragons, and a tip for forest creation, a forest can't be compost of a single species of tree, or it might be only a green desert that lack different organism living in it.

OMG YESS please this looks really amazing! Name suggestions: Behemoth I Celestial Era I Nirvana (Buddhist word relating to "becoming extinguished", as the humans did and dragons took over.) I Dragonity (humanity being destroyed, dragons become the new occupants of Earth.) Please stick to this, you can be certain when you pull this through you'll have many buyers, including me! Would also love if the dragons have customization options for the proportions and features. Best of luck, we're all excited!

I think for choosing the kinds of wildlife, i think it would be good to have many real life animals but also have a few special fantasy animals or creatures too!

something i think should be incorporated, that other games (to my knowledge) dont do, is have the dragons glide in the air but also recover stamina while gliding. maybe not as much as if theyre on the ground walking or resting, since they still have their arms spread out to glide, but they arent flapping, so i think they should be able to slowly recover stamina when gliding. i have high hopes for your project man. this would be a huge dragon survival game if you can nail it

I love dragons and I so want a dragon survival game! I also love studding dragons so I'm so down for this. hit me up if you want some honest feed back to how the dragons should move, behave and interact with the world. I would like to see dragons that can actually climb cliffs and crawl into their cavern homes in the cliffs personally. Prey verity and difficulty is something that day of dragons is struggling with right now. Getting the feel of flying and running is also critical. Man wish I could contribute money wise but I only have ideas and my previous game playing experiences. I would love to work with you on this from a consultant and tester perspective if you would have me.

I think stuff that make the dragons special in the species would be awesome like the sea dragon could "live" in water, and the basilisk could dig into the ground and make hole bases or something.

8:42 I love the idea of having real and fantasy creatures. Imagine being able to eat elk and dear or if you’re a smaller younger dragon rabbits and raccoon. But then much larger fantasy creatures could be enemies like a massive underground snake could attack you from bellow. Giants try to snatch you from the air in the mountain tops. Hydra could appear in caves or near caves. Leviathan could appear in lakes or oceans if you have them. Or you can have smaller fantasy creatures that could be dangerous for younger dragons such as a Griffon or chewbacabra. I think incorporating both fantasy and realistic creatures would be an incredible concept that’ll really add to the lore of the game.

I play a game called Wolfquest Anniversary Edition and I think you should check it out. I think a Dragon/Wyvern den would be an awesome idea, to temporary hold territory while raising offspring. It would give an option for the NPC wild creatures coming to attack your offspring and your character at your den. I also love the multiple moon idea, sounds amazing! Keep us posted on the progress! ❤
