Dps nerf is perfect, but ignite nerf is horrible, fixes nothing regarding tank fights but makes him worse at fighting anyone other than the tank, the inherent issue of the character

I have to agree, he’s still good but it made him significantly worse against other characters that aren’t a tank or have an overall big hit box because his lack of decent accuracy in terms of spraying both at close range. Me personally, i would tighten the spread when spraying both weapons but inherently decrease the amount of damage when using both overall? (What I mean is when using both weapons at the same time, it should be on a separate damage number vs using one at a time) Idk, y’all tell me what you guys think.

Mauga is in a worse state now than he was back during the BLIZZCON TEST. Reduce his DPS, you reduce his Lifesteal off Cardiac and his healing. They couldn't just revert the damage to 4.5 from the test during the nerf? And, the Ignite change feels awful, he needs Critical hits to get Overhealth, and you can't consistently burn squishies at range with 15 shots to get your Overhealth or your Cardiac. Revert the Ignite change, bump up damage to OG value, and you will fix him.

If anything I’d have lowered the damage but reduce the number of shots to get on fire. That would have made him better at range and worse up close to kind of protect hog’s close range damage niche. I also think the only cool mechanic that got introduced with mauga is the burn so I’d just emphasize that. Alternating guns at range feels so much more satisfying than just spraying both at someone close range

That’s how I play him now, I’m a rather good mauga but before I could go up close and protect my team but also stay alive but now because of how long it takes to ignite I have to play range a bit more which is meh. Would have actually buffed his ignite but nerf his damage

Idk if it’s just me, but with the new nerfs, I literally don’t know what to do with him. Before, you were so strong, you melt tanks. Now, you’re not doing as much damage so tanks are much more survivable. Not only that, but you’re less survivable because of the damage nerfs as well. Because of the fire changes to his gun, it feels really bad shooting squishies. It seems even if I lay into them with both my guns at close range, they don’t die. So do I shoot the tank and try to keep myself alive? Or do I shoot the squishies that I won’t be able to kill? Maybe it’s a skill issue, but the nerfs do feel bad for Mauga. I think they should change the damage back to 4.5 and make you catch on fire with 12/13 shots. Thoughts?

Honestly I think the ideal way to change him is to keep his damage at 4, which is still very high sustained damage for a tank, but increase his defensive capabilities to be slightly more forgiving. It's basically a soft rework at that point, but if the left gun was THE DAMAGE GUN and the right gun was the overhealth gun with much less damage than the left, and without one depending on the other, I think he'd be a bit more balanced overall. Of course, this goes against their current philosophy for the character, so it'll take him a long time before any major change happens.

The damage nerf is fine. It's just like Cyx said: gotta make changes to incentivize him to shoot squishies because in the current state he's in he can't ignite squishies reliably at all if they're even a few meters away from him. So at that point it's just shoot the tank. They either have to make his guns have no spread or lower the number of shots to ignite.

I've suggested this several times, but instead of needing a set number of shots to ignite, instead you have to do a set percent of damage to each hero. Let's say the value is 20%, against 200 health heroes you have to do 40 damage, against 250 health it's 60, etc. Makes his match-up against squishies still as good as before, while nerfing his tankbusting potential since you don't get to do crits quite as fast against them.

I think if they’re Tryna focus on his ignite and the crit damage, they should make the second gun shoot a lot slower like 1/10 the speed of the first, almost like a charged up soldiers shot. That deal more damage to ignited targets. Drop the bullets back down to ten, and to add on to the ignite part have his slam cause ignite upon landing and hit targets too, making it easier to take out squishies, maybe even another aoe ability that ignites everyone around him in a circle like his ult, or maybe have his ult be like a fire wall taht ignites everyone inside.

In the first place all mauga does is shutdown other tanks and have a broken E. I thought I would love him but he's pretty poorly designed.

i've had this game before, a Dva just using DM on me the whole time. the trick is to stop using both guns and just fire left gun. you use half the ammo and she runs out of DM. even at 10 meters i'd say its best to just use left gun as well to ignite the target, and then finish them off with right gun. i only use both guns if they're right in my face or a tank that is ignited. otherwise the spread is so bad the damage nerf is felt a lot when you notice you aren't sustaining as much. these nerfs were definitely needed, and has me playing the characters smarter and he's even more fun to play. but he can be shut down pretty hard by his counters if you don't know what you're doing. the worst is still ana, as you need your support to just go kiriko if they're good with their anti nades.

I played Mauga against the same Dva player pre-nerf and absolutely rolled them because of how much he was able to pressure from range and play around DM… really hate how they nerfed the most skillful part of his kit into the ground the encourage the “shoot tank” playstyle

This unironically may be the best Mauga counter comp - dva to eat his bullets, tracer/genji with tiny hitboxes and high mobility so he can't get self-heals from shooting dps, and ana/zen to discord/sleep/nade. Mauga is useless into that. In general, I think characters with small hitboxes are an underrated Mauga counter. His spread is awful and if he can't land at least 50% of his bullets his self-heal is useless. That's why you always just want to shoot the tank when you play him - it's the only way you do a decent enough amount of dmg and self-heal.

I think the ignition proc should be based on a percentage of the targets total health as opposed to a flat number, that way it procs reasonably on Squishies and isn't too oppressive to other tanks

Definitely not a percentage, but max health instead. 100% of Tracer's HP is 150, while 100% of Hog's HP is 350. Therefore, if you wanna run with the idea that heroes with more HP should take longer to catch on fire, then it shouldn't be based on percentage.

There were a lot of things wrong with this match. Not only were you playing into counters but your team also wasn't playing anything that helps you except for Ana, but she's also being countered by D.va and Tracer. You had no Kiri, no Mei or Symm to beam the D.va and no frontline dps to help you with the D.va who just stared at you, not to mention both of your dps getting outclassed that whole match. I wouldn't say this proves that Mauga got nerfed too much but I'd definitely say it proves that you can easily counter Mauga especially more so now than before. However considering you didn't have an ideal team comp for Mauga anyway we'll probobly have to see more matches to be able to decide if this was too much.

The 20% dmg nerf was fine where is the compensation? 15 shots lol why not make it 20 so they have time to emote. Cyx I'm glad you're not as dumb as the rest. I agree he needs an accuracy buff but also 80% life steal instead of 70% and make his primary burn after 12 shots, two thirds of a second is enough reaction time for people. One whole second of using the pea shooter is simply too long when everyone is farming you for ult charge.

I think Mauga needs time to have his own position in the balance of the game. Dps shred through tanks with no issue, tanks get hit with every ability in the game and receive all the debuffs, people expect tanks to peel and initiate at the same time, when tanks are hit by CC or anti nade they can literally explode proving they aren’t tanks, tanks can’t even dive supports cause nearly each support has a get away ability or self peel that the tank can’t stop, also both supports healing each is enough healing that a tank can’t kill a support, a support pocketing a dps, almost no tank can stop it. Just to put it into perspective Ramattra when he ults he goes from 450 to 675 and it’s all amour, when he ults he jumps to that health and he can die either instantly or in 2 to 3 seconds, making him cosmetic. I am really Happy with the nerfs. Maugas Potential to 1v1 anyone and barely loose health was extreme. His ult also was unhealthy for the Game. Pull enemies Close into a small area. The only Hero who can survive it was Zen. But even after His ult the Cage IS typically still Up BC IT Lasts so Long. His damage Output Just was too Strong and He wrecked any Tank with ease. And even His single gun shots are incredible accurate, allowing you to win Fights with snipers aswell.
