ray of doom > hydra pods reason is rays will shoot through infinite bloons, so if you can defend 1 ZOMG, you can defend against any size rush. Hydra pods have more single target damage, but they do not hit everything. it will be better at defending against 1 ZOMG, but will be overpowered quickly by more

Not gonna lie, in most games you definitely want the hydra rocket pods over the ray of doom. You can tell by watching the video that the rockets provided extra damage to single moabs, and combined with the village 4-2 passive of refreshing abilities you could defend against most round 30 rushes easily. However the rockets do damage on impact and don’t pierce like the lasers do, so lasers were the correct choice with the ice shards because of the need to do damage to lots of children MOABs at once.
