Equestria Girls really is something else. Best way to describe it is, take the high school stories cliche, and add the charm of Friendship is Magic. The stories tend to take standard high school plots as the baseline but they definitely play around with them. These three songs highlight that by giving us a "Win Homecoming Queen" "Battle of the Bands" and "Competition against a rival school" plot but making their own twist to it. Once you reach the point of the story where EQG comes into play, it would be exciting to see you react to the series. The main 4 movies all take place between seasons after season 3 of the main show, and the timeline for the specials/shorts is pretty much none consequential after season 6. Despite being a spin off, it does connect some elements to the main show that help bridge the gap between them. And it has a lot of music to provide for sure

I think the main reason they chose not to use skin colors for Equestria Girls is because they didnt wanna cause fights in the fandom about what race the fans think Twilight (or anyone else) would be. Like I personally have a headcanon that human Twilight is African and Japanese! Not sure if it was said, but an important detail to note is that Twilight in that last song is not the character you've seen in other songs. That human realm is an alternate dimension with counterparts of all the characters, and in the first two songs in this video that was pony Twilight having crossed over and transformed by the means with which she crossed. In that third song, that was the Twilight from the Equestria Girls side of things.

Here is the missing story. After season 3 finale called Magical Mystery Cure Twight creates a powerful magic spell based on the magic of friendship. This turns out to be extremely rare. Twilight earns her Wings becoming an Alicorn and the Newest Princess. Sunset Shimmer finds out and is extremely jealous. Sunset Shimmer used to be Celestia's student but became power hungry after seeing herself as an alicorn. when the mirror portal was closed. Sunset demanded to be made an alicorn but when Celestia refused to give in to the demand Sunset broke into the dark magic section and was caught by Celestia and expelled before the guards took her out of the castle she escaped through the portal swearing vengeance and Celestia's defeat. When Twilight earn those wings The wings Sunset believed she had the right to Stole the element of magic eventually losing it and it got lost in the human world. Twilight chased after sunset

The singing over each other thing is called "counterpoint" I think. I might be wrong. Equestria Girls is a spin-off of MLPFIM. It consists of 4 movies, a few feature-length specials, and a bunch of shorts. The first movie (Equestria Girls) takes place shortly after MLPFIM season 3. The second movie (Rainbow Rocks) takes place after season 4. The third movie (Friendship Games) takes place after season 5 (I think it was released before S5 ended, but at the end Pony Twilight says she was stuck in a time loop, which would place it after the S5 finale of MLPFIM). The last movie, Legend of Everfree, takes place after the 3rd movie, though I'm not sure where in the MLP timeline it fits. Same with the specials and shorts, except for Spring Breakdown which definitely takes place after the defeat of the Storm King in the MLP movie. (Mirror Magic is also thought to take place during or after S6 since Starlight appears in it and isn't evil). It's basically about a parallel universe to Equestria where human versions of the Mane 6 (and most of the other ponies in the show) exist. The girl with red and yellow hair is Sunset Shimmer. She is a former student of Princess Celestia's (from before Twilight became her student) who turned evil and is the antagonist of the first Equestria Girls movie. She steals Twilight's princess crown (which is also her Element of Harmony crown) so Twilight has to go to the EG world to get it back, which she does by running for Princess of the Fall Formal against Sunset (hence the "help her win the crown" song, and why Sunset hates it). After Sunset gets defeated, she reforms and becomes kinda the leader of the human Mane 6 in the EG universe, which is why she looks not evil in Rainbow Rocks (where the "Under Our Spell" song comes from). The Twilight in "Unleash the Magic" is actually the EG world equivalent of Twilight, often called "Sci-Twi" since she's obsessed with science and tech in much the same way Pony Twilight is obsessed with magic. She initially goes to a rival school, Crystal Prep Academy, who fights against Canterlot High in the Friendship Games and is obsessed with winning. Twilight has noticed the strange magical happenings at Canterlot High and wants to study and make sense of them out of her own thirst for knowledge, so she makes this necklace device thing to measure the magical energy. Unfortunately it also ends up absorbing some of the magical energy that Sunset and the other human Mane 6 have, and by the time of "Unleash the Magic" it's gotten to a point where it's almost impossible to control or contain. But Twilight's Crystal Prep classmates (and principal) have realized Twilight has said magic, and try to convince Twilight to use it to help them win the Games. Long story short, doesn't end well. (Also you can distinguish between Sci-Twi and MLP Twilight because MLP Twilight has long, straight hair in her human form, while Sci-Twi has a ponytail and bangs). Probably shouldn't say anymore than that cause I've spoiled enough. Hope that helps!
