So I tried out a HISUIAN Zoroark team... • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet VGC Battles

In this video, I try out a fun team featuring Hisuan Zoroark! The team uses Hisuian Zoroark to support the duo of Maushold and Annihilape. Zoroark is a tricky Pokemon to use, but it can catch a lot of opponents off guard and force them to make sub-optimal plays in the opening turns of the battle!

An ability like Illusion that I would love is something I’d call Apparition. When sent out, you appear as a random mon from your opponents team that has already fainted. You’d get that mon’s typing and appearance but you’d keep your own moves and stats. You’d also be immune to Normal moves even if the fainted mon’s type that you are acquiring wasn’t ghost type, since the Apparition mon is a “ghostly” apparition of the fainted mon. Could be cool :)

Zoroark has always been my favorite pokemon, and when it got a new form with a more viable typing I was super excited to see it get used more As for the QOTD, I'd like to propose a buff for Illusion instead. I think it'd be cool if Illusion worked like Disguise and protected you from a single hit before fading. Or maybe cut damage in half. It'd help with Zoroark's frailty, while still keeping the gimmick of tricking opponents.

one version of this I think really takes advantage of the maushold well is running nasty plot on the zoroark so it can also act as a set up sweeper, similar to how a lot of mausape teams in reg c often ran a nasty plot gholdengho.

at the beginning of reg d i ran a horoark team with nasty plot, with the aim to disguise it as something passive and blow through the opposition with boosted hyper voices. it was decent but i think the original idea needed some tweaking

I attempted to build around the same idea of Mausape and H-Zoroark at the very beginning of Reg D due to how Zoroark can cover weaknesses for both Maushold and Annihilape, however, I wasn’t able to find a great way to build around that core. Glad to see that someone did a great job of that!

For the question of the day: Illusion should change both pokemon, or at least "fake" items and abilities that pronounce them, like air balloon or sword of ruin without really giving the effect so it wouldn't be obvious that it is zoroark

You mentioned in the video to speed creep Heatran to outspeed Urshifu at -1 speed. So, I pulled out the damage calculator and found the Timid Heatran with 20 speed IVs is 2 points faster than max speed Urshifu at -1. Thanks for the idea!

I think Hisuian Zoroark has a lot of potential, you can use it in so many different ways! I for example used a Choice Scarf Support variant at the beginning of Reg D, which basically won me games a lot of the times just by tricking my opponent into fake-outing it and burning or snarling them in return. I definitely think that it's underrated

Horoark is arguably one of the most skill intensive mons in the game, but unlike other highly skilled mons like Dondozo, the reward isn't as great, so I think that's why very few pros use it.

QOTD: Maybe something like what Mimiku has combined with Zoroark. Essentially a Pokémon has an ability that creates an Illusion of itself; e.g, an exact copy, stats, moveset, item, all of it. So when you select that Pokémon in Team Preview and it hits the battlefield, 2 of it comes out. Now the Illusion is only good for one *physical* hit, after which the 2nd Pokémon you selected comes out in its stead. Would create some interesting mind games; not only in Team Preview but during the battle as well. Whether or not to double up on a mon, etc. And would force people to have at least *some* physical damage to deal with the copy. Oh, and of course the copy disappears when the actual Pokémon faints. Would make the most sense for this Pokémon to be of a Psychic typing, as its able to maintain an illusionary copy of itself until said copy comes into contact with another, breaking the illusion.

I love Hisuian Zoroark. It's such a high skill ceiling Pokémon that encourages some very fun high-risk, high-reward plays from both sides. It's a ton of fun to play and watch, though it's also definitely not the most consistent Pokémon. QotD: Because I'm evil: Uniform: When the Pokémon enters battle, it takes the form of an ally Pokémon. It reverts to its original form when hit by an attack. It gives you the 50/50 of Ally Switch on an ability.

QOTD: I think a really cool version of illusion would be one that changes your stats to match those of the Pokémon you’re copying. I think it would be cool because the opponent could have a trick room team, so you could put your slowest Pokémon in the last slot. It would also help if the opponent has a lot of special or physical attackers, so you could put a physically or specially defensive Pokémon in the last slot to mimic it. It would definitely be overpowered, considering you could copy Slaking’s stats without having the ability, but it is really cool.

QoTD: a variant of Illusion that could work in an endgame scenario with summoning an illusory body of a fainted ally would be cool, maybe giving you one or two turns where what should be a 1vX is now a 2vX. The illusion would probably need to have reduced damage, but just existing to reduce damage from spread moves could be helpful.

QOTD: how about an ability that desguises the oposing mons when forced in the battle? (Roar, whirldwind, eject button, nad such). Probably very niche.. Alternatively, something like mimikyu's desguise, but after being broken it will deal dmg equal to the damage absorbed in two turns

A fun ability would be one to conceal what move you used from your opponents. So for offensive moves you still see the damage they cause and any secondary effects, but not specifically which move was used, and with non-damaging moves you only see the effects if you're targeted by the move or they're impossible to conceal (so with moves like Thunder Wave or Ally Switch you'd see the effect, but with Swords Dance you'd just get a message like 'X has used a mystery move' and not see the stat change).

The tera dark type is my answer to maushold annihilape and prankster taunt, I saw it from the Alex Gomez's team. My last pokemon was dark urshfu so I used dragonite first to make damage on annihilape with extremespeed (yes, terablast was a missclick lmao) and be sure that urshi could kill it with suckerpunch. I've ALSO been using a Scarf Hisuian Zoroark team on showdown along with Meowscsrada and other support mons. It's been doing really well! I think Zoroark is good in the meta as it makes your opponent think twice about making a move. You and your opponents both need to think about your leads

Something like Illusion, I will take some liberties. As Illusion messes with the data the game shows you, I’d like to create the ability Poker Face. This Pokémon’s health bar does not move down for the opponent. They only see the full Health Bar when it’s alive and when it faints it goes all black immediately. EVs are gonna be whack mind games for that.

I think like an Illusion ability that disguises the pokemon's attacking move would be interesting. Like it picks a random move from its movepool and the animation and name is of that move is used to disguise, but the damage and typing is that of the actual move that is being used.

QOTD: if i were to make an ability like illusion. id make an ability that does the opposite. and turns both pokemon into the illusionist mon instead (till hit). for example. if hisuian zoroark had this ability. you could send him out with fluttermane. but since both look like hisuian zoroark. rather than using shadow ball and possibly missing zoroark, or even just a hidden normal type pokemon (like maushold) do to their ghost immunity. your opponent would have to do a less effective attack or hard read you. tho the pokemon with this ability probably wouldnt have as good a typing as zoroark

QOTD: Delay Reflection. It's be more of a Singles ability, but when the mon is taken off the field, either by switch out or by fainting, whichever mon comes in that slot appears as the first mon. So like lets say Zoroark had this ability. You knock out Zoroark and the next mon will look like a Zoroark, and the opponent won't know which mon it actually is unless you have an ability like Sand Stream that activates or you have health already missing to spoil it.

Qotd: that is a hard question, my first idea was a form of terrain since in the movie Zoroark was able to make terrains, but I’m not sure if that’s the right spirit 🤔 If it is, creating terrain based on whatever type of the Pokémon you’re transformed into would be interesting, it would make it so then most Terrain setters would be a more plausible disguise, and if the opponent sets up opposing terrain or gets rid of yours, you switch out For me, I enjoy illusion how it is, I just don’t fully like the Pokémon it’s attached to, having bulkier hit takers would be nice, my only real idea to change the ability would be to give it an emergency exit/regenerator feature, just to encourage pivoting really

For Game 4 -- would it have ever made sense to read into the Poison Tera Ting Liu and knock it out to make sure they had no snow? My main worry was Blizzard freeze and Snow Cloak misses, but that is quite a risky hard read to make. Also props to them for going for the Sheer Cold. It was definitely their win con and their best move on Heatran regardless. Anyway, loving the Reg D content as always.

An ability like ally swap with your lead mon would be cool where esentially both are disguised as each other until one of them is hit. It could be like mimikyu's disguise breaking when hit. qotd: this was a hard one to think of. perhaps a move that fakes a switch out, i.e it appears that the pokemon has swapped into a different random pokemon in the back, changing its appearance but not actually chaning which pokemon is out. could lead to a lot of tricksy mindgames, esp when paired with rage powder or follow me to force a lack of knowledge for the opponent.

Day 2 of asking to try a volcorona team Feels like it is hella underrated while it has moves like rage powder, tailwind, will o wisp, struggle bug(basically snarl RK9 but with stab) , fiery dance and quiver dance for a potential sweeper set and flame body to hinder physical attackers that make contact without using will o wisp

The last game reminded me of a game I had this season against Power of Alchemy Minimize A.Muk with Moody Scovillian (this has been around for a bit now) and I let the Muk just do stuff... and ended up hitting all relevant attacks. I really dislike going up against stuff like this because you are basically hard at the mercy of full rng the entire match. Question for the creator: Is there a reason why Shadow Ball over Bitter Malice? I would honestly consider the guaranteed Attack drop more valuable than 5 more base power.

A few months ago I tried using Zoroark, Maushold, and Annihilape and discovered on Showdown if Zoroark is disguised as Annihilape and gets hit it boosts the power of the Annihilape's Rage Fist. This causes Rage Fist to start at 100bp on switch in. Does this also happen on Scarlet and Violet?
