Coming into Fruits Basket thinking it will be cute story and then getting punched with the _trauma_ must be universal experience LOL For real tho, I will treasure this series forever. I cried so much during it because I could relate to some characters issues. In a way it helped heal myself a bit. And I definitely agree with what you said, considering how big the cast is, no character was left behind, everyone got some development which is remarkable for a show with just 3 Seasons. Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I will keep recommending Fruits Basket to everyone for years to come😊.

and there are things from the manga the anime left out!! even when it comes to manabe, he's related to tohru because his girlfriend's father was the one driving the car that killed tohru's mom, meaning that his constant alertness and slight hostility towards her is not baseless, because his father-in-law didn't have ill intent. furuba is one of Those™ media for me-i've seen the show three times, watched the movie, read the manga and now i'm currently reading fruits basket: another (aka the sequel). the writing is spectacular, and it balances comedy and depth perfectly. i have my beef with it here and there, but overall it's an amazing piece of media that really makes you think about power imbalance, love, selfishness and selflessness, connections and support. one of my all time favorites.

I think it's better that Manabe's part is left out in the anime. He never has any reason to be hostile towards Tohru! Tohru is the victim, and bereaved family. She becomes orphan thanks to it, he should feel guilty or at least pity her. Considering Tohru's nature, if she knows about his hostility then Tohru will be heartbroken and miserable and blaming herself again.

@@gracequeeney3399 There is no reason, no, but people can be irrational. And that's part of his flaws. Because he scolds her and thinks that'll make Komaki happy but she's like. No. And that's part of what Kakeru means when he talks to Yuki and is like. How can I see things how you see them? Because he's bad at that kind of empathy. But he knows that and wants to learn.

i watched the og anime in 2004 ( i was 10) and while growing up in a screwed up family, Fruits Basket was the anime that kept me sane, comforts me. i rewatched 26 episodes anually . i really mean it, anually. Up until i was 14 years old, had my own laptop and i found out about the manga with 136 chapters, it became my holy grail. I learned a lot from all char's backstories, even Tohru. Everything made sense. I guess Fruits Basket is like a therapy for us the broken ones. Fruits Basket 2019 finally gave me the satisfaction that i longed from since 10. Fruits basket change how i view people around me and the way i live my life. I have no shame of saying Honda Tohru is my role model. I will always go back to Fruits Basket, anytime , anywhere.

Fruits basket had so much trauma, mental, verbal, and physical abuse - I felt *cheated* when no one did anything to Akito. She got away with sooo much b.s😤. I lost it when I saw Uotani literally hug Akito at the hospital. It didn't fit Uotani's character of being fiercely protective of Tohru. The ship that was the most gratifying to see in the end was Rin and Haru. I highly recommend *Love is War* for a funnier light hearted anime. The English dub narrator elevated Love is War to god tier Shoujo anime
@xgzav34883 ай бұрын
Love is War is one of my favorite anime but technically it's seinen, not shojo. You probably meant god tier romance ;) I like how in fruit basket, even though Akito has her "redemtion", Rin is justified in the way she feels. Like, Akito changed but the anime isn't telling us that she's entitled to our forgiveness.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this wonderful story fully to the end. So many people are missing out on this tale of relationships and familial trauma. Watching the reboot show is so special to me after growing up with the original and the manga. The 2019 reboot really did an excellent job at adapting the full story of fruits basket. Also the characters are all flushed out and you actually care about all of them, I can’t get enough of this story

I've just finished the show and somehow found this video. I have a lot of skepticism for Shoujo because I read Kaichou wa Maid sama and it was boring :((. I was looking for something to cure me from my depression and watched Fruits Basket. And... cured me it did, and then it killed me, and cured me over and over again. Moments that were seemingly cliche, were actually so real and human. What an amazing show. Still a bit salty that we got to see so little of the monkey zodiac and no violin performance by Momiji.

I remember at first in season 3 when is seems they are trying to make me sympathize with akito at first I'm like no you won't make me sympathize but in season 3 episode 9 when akito cries to Tohru I'm like you guys did it
@rebelmage69294 ай бұрын
Akito did suffer consequences, though, but you see that more in Fruits Basket Another. And how it also influences her son. Like, no, it wasn't some single act of vengeance against her or something, but it's small things she has to live with for the rest of her life. And that she chooses to live with, too, because she knows what she did. And while that may not feel as rewarding to some, I feel like it's better. Because it shows you that people can change, and there isn't one moment of repentance that'll erase everything, but that it's possible to live with the ramifications of your actions and accept that and find new meaning. But it never goes away. And you have to live with that, too.

Yeah I know Fruits Basket tries to convince me to see Akito as a victim, but what she inflicted upon the family was so often and so intense she crossed the Moral Event Horizon, from victim to straight abuser. In fact I'd say abuse is a light word for what she committed, cuz I'm preeeetty sure that hitting a minor in the head with a flower pot, punch a child, and *push off someone the house's second floor balcony* are incontestable *crimes* . Only reason the story doesn't commit to a better fitting punishment is because the writer didn't want to ruin the "feel-good" ending by wrapping up a bitter resolution into the mix (or just plain There Are No Therapists). But overall, Furuba is a Whump story.
