Most of the older people wished we had not left as early as we did. Britain did not so much interfere with the culture as introduce better laws. For example under trible law in most African countries village chiefs had the power of life and death, in particular over women. Britain introduced the system of Civil law (which trible chiefs used) and Criminal law which was controlled by the colonial governor, who had local counterparts. The problem these days is rampant corruption. Example Nigeria where there should not be any fuel shortages but there is because the fat cats are selling it over the border.

We are also told direct about the solicitors .it is 25k to come through the front door to a company who is involved in the scams .I have seen the list direct from solicitors what dodgy things a company has to do . My great grandmother, who was born at the very end of the 1800's, had 18 children. Nine died in infancy. We have no idea what real hardship is and we are no longer resilient. I can't imagine how she got through that but she had 9 other children, her husband and her own parents who relied on her so she just got on with it. We don't ever want to go back to those days but we have lost the ability to be grateful for the simple things and complain about everything! And as if to prove my point you both go on to talk in favor of killing off the sick and elderly instead of dealing with the issue of the appalling state of palliative care in the NHS and zero regard for what's happening in Canada with the massive rise in suicides. There's no dignity in facilitating suicide.
