It would have been great if u spoke in rajasthani or Hindi with Ivan. Children can learn many languages with exposure. And when u go to India and Ivan speaks to ur parents in ur mother tongue, that is something heart warming. I came to India after 6 yrs, all my relatives and friends thought my kids wouldn't know Hindi, when they see my kids speaking perfect Hindi, everybody is so shocked each time. Now they say they know why our languages r called mother tongue.

It’s different in my situation and the same ways can’t be applied. He spends most of the time here in China where he never sees any two people speak the same language. I speak in english to him. Odin speaks in broken english with a heavy accent, his grandma speaks Chinese. He has only picked up english because of this confusion. Adding another language will do more harm than good especially when he won’t have any use of hindi here. If he ends up speaking in both english and Hindi and not Chinese, it would seem like I am keeping him from learning Chinese. If it is not absolutely necessary, he doesn’t need to learn now. In your case, it might have been easier as both you and your partner spoke hindi.

He is a Singaporean. That's y I love watching ur videos, they give me pardes mein Desi feeling. But I understood ur concerns, I heard in China, English isn't given much priority in schools too, it's really good that u are teaching Ivan in a proper way from the beginning. I understand. Pls don't take my comment as a criticism, it was just a suggestion because ur parents would be super happy to listen Ivan speak in rajasthani or Hindi. My kids r studying in Chinese school too in Singapore. So I'm pretty sure that Ivan will definitely pick up Chinese, English as well as Hindi too. And I'm really happy to receive ur reply Ruchi. Thank u 😀
